The year of 2020 was one of the deadliest registered in recent decades. According to Instituto Nacional de Estatística, since the beginning of March, deaths have been superior to homologous periods by 13%. However, was COVID-19 the only direct cause of these deaths? What reasons are behind this excess mortality?
