Episode 18: Sprouts, Beet Juice and the Possibility of John Leguizamo
The Kind Nudibranch and the Garbage Witch head into a Salt Lake City grocery store called Sprouts and discover a super beet drink that maybe should not exist, discuss the possibility of having seen John Leguizamo, and are just their generally charming selves.
Episode 17: Jet Lag, Las Vegas and a grocery store (because of course)
The Kind Nudibranch and the Garbage Witch return on January 25th, 2019, to the place where the GW is from. Yep. They were born there, and raised there. The KN and GW only flew into Vegas because it's affordable, and they planned to drive to Salt Lake City for the Sundance Film Festival. But first they find a really awesome Korean grocery store/food court/plaza in Vegas and it was wonderful.
Episode 16: Crafts stores, museums for grief and a sad chicken
The Kind Nudibranch and the Garbage Witch go to Ben Franklin and spend a lot of time talking about sadness, and the reason the KN is in Seattle which is not Thanksgiving, but to participate in Good Mourning, a museum of grieving put together by Casey Middaugh. Even if you don't listen to this podcast I would recommend checking out the wonderful work around grief, that Casey does, because she is wonderful.
Episode 15: Octopus Books and the Glebe
The Kind Nudibranch and the Garbage Witch take a quick look around the Glebe in Ottawa before heading to the airport to get the GB back to Seattle. They find an awesome little grocery store, and a bunch of cool murals, and end up eating at Jericho!
Episode 14: On Impermanence and Iridescent Clouds
The Kind Nudibranch and the Garbage Witch explore the Pacific Northwest on a whim during one of their visits. They end up in strange and unexpected places, like Astoria (super wonderful) and the Portland Night Market (not their thing). This was the exact episode I needed to hear tonight, weirdly, and I'm grateful for the accidental wisdom of my past self for the needs of my current self. (Having a record of the weird things we say is super...odd)
Episode 13: Vancouver
The Kind Nudibranch and the Garbage Witch meet up in Vancouver, and share stories, and...I guess you could just listen to it and find out. I don't really feel like writing a synopsis tonight, or being all quippy. I guess I just wish I knew what I know now, then.
Episode 12: Real Feelings on the Way to the Airport
The Kind Nudibranch and the Garbage Witch drive to the airport so the Garbage Witch can fly back to Seattle. They think they'll only be separated for 5 months. Almost two years later we know that isn't true, but it is sweet to listen to our optimistic other-selves thinking it. Visiting our former selves through this podcast has been parts heartening, and parts just really really...sad. I shouldn't write these descriptions at 2:20am.
Episode 11: Cracker Barrel Halloween in July
The Kind Nudibranch and the Garbage Witch are on their last day of driving on the way to Canada, and they talk about the serious things, but they also talk about the ridiculousness of going into a Cracker Barrel looking like some faerie punk goth rejects, and having the Cracker Barrel staff try to get them to eat there, and also the paranoia involved in going into a fancy Upper New York State fancy restaurant and feeling like they didn't belong, and finding out, that...once you start talking to people, sometimes, they prove you wrong.
Episode 10: The Garbage Witch of Oz, and their little dog too
The Kind Nudibranch and the Garbage Witch chat in their car about all the places they couldn't go because they are traveling with Luna, a dog of mysterious origins, and are very excited about their stop in Kansas, because the Kind Nudibranch has a real thing for the Wizard of Oz, and L. Frank Baum. Will the museum let them in with their furry compatriot? We aren't really about the drama. But maybe it matters to you.
Episode 9: Cloud Stains and Highway Hallucinations
The Kind Nudibranch and the Garbage Witch decide to record themselves chatting while driving through Wyoming, on their cross-country trip to move the Kind Nudibranch back to Canada. There is still joy in their hearts, and a small dog in the back of the vehicle, all snuggled up in her sweet crate, with a fan, and a chilled floor pillow. It turns out that traveling across America with a dog means you can't actually explore very much of the world. Please enjoy our prattling, or don't. We really didn't think anyone would ever listen to our conversations for an imaginary audience.
Episode 8: Spider Grandpas and other ancient monsters
The Kind Nudibranch and the Garbage Witch sit down in a restaurant with three friends and tell stories about spider grandpas, and other types of grandfathers. Everyone ends up howling into the night. With special guests: The Spider Grandpa, Georgia Sparks and Klondike Barr. This is the last podcast recorded in Seattle before the Kind Nudibranch and the Garbage Witch leave Seattle on their epic adventure across America.
Episode 7: Look! We have friends!
The Kind Nudibranch and the Garbage Witch are leaving Seattle, and before they go they decide to gather a few of their wonderful friends to have dinner, and after they head to...you guessed it (if you've been listening to the podcast, and if you haven't then this is just a weird thing I'm writing and I apologize for the assumed familiarity)...a grocery store! Everyone chooses a ridiculous pseudonym, and we giggle. A lot. Damn, I miss these friends, and the Garbage Witch. But this is a joyful episode, and I'm gonna dwell in this joy.
Episode 6: A Disappointment
The Kind Nudibranch and the Garbage Witch psychically absorb the bleak disappointment of a sad Safeway. Even more than usual, there is no reason to listen to this.
Episode 5: Real Birthday Feelings and Last of the Summer Wine
The Kind Nudibranch and the Garbage Witch sit in a car together outside of the Metro Market while the Kind Nudibranch gets really....real. This is less about exploring the world and more about being together, and there are some hard things. CW (mentions of cancer, and compliments and birthdays) It is actually kind of beautiful. I think this is our favourite so far. There is a lot of laughing. A lot.
Episode 4: A Regular Shopping Adventure
Driven by whim and an absurd sense of purpose, two humans in love decide to do their fourth podcast at the the Whole Foods near Ravenna, in Seattle, Washington, USA but alas it was closing in ONE minute. So the Garbage Witch informs the dismayed Kind Nudibranch that they could just go to another grocery store. So they go to TWO more! The PCC in Bryant, and their very favourite of all the night time groceries, the Metro Market down the street from their house. The Garbage Witch has strep throat, and it's strange to think about how we used to just go into grocery stores without masks.
Episode 3: Ghosts and Pea Milk
Driven by whim and a new sense of purpose, two humans in love decide to do their third podcast at the oldest grocery store in Washington, USA. The Garbage Witch informs the Kind Nudibranch that they'd been staying in a house known for being haunted. The podcast finally gets a name and the hosts have their code names! It is still evident that they enjoy each other’s company, and really really like grocery stores.
Episode 2: The Grocery Nerd is Underwhelmed and Yet the Garbage Witch Still Seems Whelmed
Driven by whim and a new sense of purpose, two humans in love decide to do their second podcast at the Poulsbo Central Market in Washington, USA. They had been promised it was the largest Central Market. The podcast still doesn’t have a name and the hosts are as of yet without code names. But it is evident that they enjoy each other’s company, and really really like grocery stores.
