24: Jersey Shore Summer Couples Guide

We’ve reached the finale of Nutrition Nuptials season 1! Maybe not as high profile as that Game of Thrones episode, but it’s a definite change of pace. Instead of discussion nutrition and exercise, Mandy and Taco are closing out the season by talking about their home turf, the Jersey Shore, which to them is like a year-round vacation. For this final episode before the summer break, Mandy and Taco take you on a guided tour of the Jersey Shore, dish out their favorite restaurants, clubs and activities, and explain why exactly Taco is called “Taco.”

13: Intuitive Eating for Couples

13: Intuitive Eating for Couples

Taco’s back from his fulfilling—and mildly chaotic—trip to India, and after catching us all up with the details of his trek he and Mandy tackle a subject that a lot of people are sensitive to at this time of year: dieting. Right around now, people start falling off the diet they resolved to stick to for New Year’s, but rather that being due to a lack of willpower it could be because the diet itself is not sustainable and conflicts with one’s eating disposition. This is why we’re advocating for intuitive eating, which grooves better with how each person eats and doesn’t get caught up in the statistical minutiae of other highly touted diets.

In our chat, we discuss the 10 core principles of intuitive eating, how we all have different eating personalities—as well as how those personalities affect dieting—and why couples need to be careful when one or both of them are on a diet.

01: Wacky Wedding Diets

01: Wacky Wedding Diets

It’s finally here – the Nutrition Nuptials Podcast!  In the very first episode, Taco and Mandy discuss trends in engagements, wedding diets NO ONE should try, and how to work together towards a lifetime of health vs going to the extreme for one day.

Divorce the Idea of “Wedding Diets”

A 2007 Cornell University study found that 70% of the engaged women surveyed said they wanted to lose weight, typically the magic number of 20 pounds. As a result, more brides are going on crash diets. Some of the diet inspiration comes from seeing images of celebrity weddings. Others are build up the the notion of wearing a revealing and expensive gown and knowing that wedding photos are forever. Ummm, what about the marriage itself and the person you’re saying “I Do” to???

If you’re not marrying a Registered Dietitian, here are some simple ways to reset the mindset to avoid diet extremes in prep for the wedding and find more ways to enjoy your life together after the big day:

  1. Emphasize “Health-fully Ever After” vs Sweating for the Wedding
  2. Find Eating & Exercise Lifestyle you can do together and maintain after the wedding
  3. The Big F = FUN! Find ways to incorporate fun into your couples culture with food, movement, and more
