Safeguarding
Its safeguarding week on the 21st to the 25th of June and the self advocates at KeyRing wanted to let people know about the work they have been doing to help people with learning difficulties keep safe from abuse. Last year they helped The Safeguarding Adults Board produce three Easy Read booklets on abuse which you can find here:
https://safeguardingadults.co.uk/keeping-safe/easy-read-guides/
You can also ring 01609534437 if you would like to request copies of the booklets which are available in various formats.
In todays episode we have Laura Watson from the Safeguarding Adults Board on the show to answer some of our questions on abuse and how to report it. Abuse is a very important topic to be aware of but it can also be difficult to talk about. If you are affected by anything said in the show please speak to someone you trust.
If you or someone you know, is experiencing or is at risk of abuse or neglect, please contact your local authority or ring the emergency services if you or someone you know is in danger. If you live in North Yorkshire the phone number to ring for North Yorkshire County Council is 01609 780780 where you can speak to a specialist advisor and report your concern.
Celebrating Self Advocates- Part 2
This is the second part of the Celebrating Self Advocates podcast. Self Advocates have been telling KeyRing Self Advocacy Service what they are proud of achieving through their Self Advocacy meetings and their work with the North Yorkshire Learning Disability Partnership Board. We have had a lot of brilliant contributions and we didn’t want to leave any of them out, so this episode is the second in our two parter.
In this episode Self Advocates speak about things they have been working on such as accessible websites, healthy eating, friendships and the Live Well Live Longer campaign. Sam also interviews Karen Murray the current manager of the KeyRing Self Advocacy Service who will shortly be retiring after a long career supporting Self Advocates.
