Did you know that More than 600,000 children are abused in the U.S each year. That’s right, An estimated 618,000 were victims of abuse and neglect in 2020, the most recent year for which there is national data. However, through thoughtful dialogue and systemic advocacy, we can all make a difference in addressing child abuse and providing vulnerable youth with much-needed support networks.

 

Here to talk with us today is Kayla Crawford, a licensed mental health Counselor and the founder of Purple Petals Healing Bar. Located in Winter Garden, Florida, Purple Petals Healing Bar assists women and adolescents girls in working through relational and attachment trauma. Kayla also has over 8yrs of experience providing individual, family counseling and parenting and anger management classes to children and families who were involved with the Department of Children and Families.

April is the co-owner of Counseling Resource Services.  April has a Master's Degree in Social Work from East Carolina University and over 30 years experience.  She is an accomplished educator and trainer in the areas of program evaluation, professional development, strategic planning, team building and agency management, as well as direct service topics.  April has worked in the academic, corporate and non-profit sectors, with managers, boards, and staff.  In addition, April provides direct service to families, children, adults, and seniors.

Our guest today is Dr. David Cavalleri. David holds a doctorate in Marriage and Family Counseling from the University of Florida and is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. David facilitates monthly support groups on suicide and sexual trauma, and he supports clients one on one for a variety of other mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, abuse, gender and sexual identity, trauma, substance use, parenting difficulties and relational issues. He also develops and manages community research activities in the Orlando and Tampa areas, and conducts workshops on the biology of trauma.

Dr. Josephs is a researcher, a trainer of cultural and linguistic competency, and a licensed mental health counselor. She has extensive expertise in the areas of researching health disparities, and designing and implementing mental health interventions. Dr. Josephs is from the beautiful island of Jamaica and currently lives here in Orange County where she’s been an Orlando resident for over 20 years.
