She gives us an inside look on how art heals and helps us process trauma. Mary Beth finds herself at the intersection of art and human connection and has had a rich and varied career in acting, theatre, television, and film. She shares her experience amplifying unheard voices in mainstream media, support for the "Me Too" movement, and talks about projects she has led in both LA and in Fort Collins. This week on the Arts Alcove Podcast, we’re doing something a little different in honor of a very exciting change coming soon to the Alcove. Starting this spring, we will be featuring students from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music alongside our other incredible Alcove Artists. Here to talk about those students, the San Francisco Conservatory, and his personal journey and guiding principles is SFCM’s president David Stull with Off the Hook Arts’ Director Jephta Bernstein.

They discuss curiosity as an essential trait, teaching humanity equal to technique as part of conservatory curriculum, and Stull's exciting plans for the future of Opus 3 as a layered force for good in the world of music. "There's a whole team of people that are required to get an album out the door; and then to promote it. So it's not enough to just create an album that's a good album."

Ryan Marvel and Dominic Dakovitch provide some much-needed optimism this week as they discuss how to overwhelm hatred and division with love and comfort. Marvel describes "The Winter Solstice Miniatures" as an appreciation for the restfulness of winter. He's enjoyed releasing the trio of duets as they reflect "Where we are now as a society. Just kind of be patient and hoping that things are gonna get better as we head towards spring."

This week Dominic was joined by painter Robert Mann IV (though he prefers you just call him Robbie). Robbie's paintings and pastel works are primarily caricatures of emotion, behavior, or "grotesque" human experience. But he and Dom talk through how "gross" something can really be if we all experience it. Mann's art is colorful, eye-catching, and humorous; and as long as you have SOME reaction to it, Mann is happy. Thank you for joining us, Robbie!
