God does everything for a purpose, and here are just 7 things I can think of that He's taught me since moving from Greenville, SC (my lifelong home), to Los Angeles California. There have been lots of hiccups but God has been so good to me and I'm really enjoying my adventure!

Ecclesiastes 7 is what I would call a "Solomon bomb." It's as if we get to peek into Solomon's deeply philosophical, midnight journal ramblings. He drops so many nuggets in this LOOOONG chapter (so long, actually, that we'll do part two next week!). You'll definitely feel encouraged after this episode.

Ecclesiastes 4 starts out a little negative . . . but for good reason. Solomon is honest and up front with us: the world is evil and harsh. Evil seems to win, and nothing makes sense. But, by the end of this chapter, Solomon consoles himself by realizing that he is leaving a legacy. We are too! Yes, life is hard, but God is good. And we have a responsibility to leave a legacy of godliness.

The year: 2012

The conundrum: cheap, superficial magazines

The answer: A clean but beautiful magazine for Christian girls passionate about growing in their Christian walk.

We started in 2012 as a newsletter under the name of South Kakalaki Girl and sent out our first issue on February 16 of 2012. Nine years later, we're still working to remind girls that they are beloved.

Make a mental list of everything you think makes up the perfect life (no Sunday School answers here! We know it’s supposed to be God, but let’s get deep).

Now, consider this: even if you had everything on that list, you still wouldn’t be happy!! At least permanently. I can guarantee it! Ya know why? Solomon tried it.

What Solomon tried:

• Making things (Great works)
• Building things (houses, pools)
• Collecting things (herds, flocks, slaves)
• Growing things (vineyards, trees)
• Buying things (money)
• Being entertained by things (singers, concubines)
• Becoming things (great, wise, surpassing all that had gone before him)

Neither the process of gaining the thing nor the thing itself satisfied.

Here’s the thing: if you were to wake up tomorrow with everything you thought you wanted . . . I can GUARANTEE that your happiness wouldn’t last. Because the thing is, we can lose everything we have.

True joy is found in God because He can NEVER be taken from us. He doesn’t wilt or die, He can’t be flattened or crushed . . . He will never walk out on us.

Life is frustrating and unfair and sometimes we feel so small, but don’t let that lie take root. Because during your lifetime, God used you to touch souls. And He touched YOU. He changed YOU.

Nothing done for God is tossed aside. God uses every little gift you offer Him.

Wisdom is a guide to living a life worth living.

When in doubt, choose God. Pray, read, repeat.

I knew that my perspective must be off and I didn’t like the uncanny feeling I got from the book, so I decided to study it this winter. In this episode, I talk through the first chapter.
