Tribute to Nelson Oluyemi Hambolu @ 70.

Tribute to Nelson Oluyemi Hambolu @ 70.

I learned that people are quick to point out wrongs and negativity, and those spread faster than positive things and positive words. I also understand that several good people continue to lead in their way, positively impacting their generation and doing good sacrificially, not minding if anyone notices them. These people are not in the news. They are rarely recognized and appreciated. One of these individuals is Nelson Oluyemi Hambolu, a retired Nigerian Army Lt. Col, who, on the 19th of October 2023, turned 70. Congratulations, and happy birthday again, sir.

Religion and its Social Impact in Africa

Religion and its Social Impact in Africa

Like any other influential aspect of society, religion has positively and negatively affected African sociology. While religion has significantly shaped many African societies' cultural and social fabric, it has also been associated with sociological distortions and challenges. Here are some ways in which religion has been linked to distortions in African sociology

Nigeria @ 63 - a call to go back to Farm

Nigeria @ 63 - a call to go back to Farm

Most importantly, as individuals and families, let us consider ways to reconnect with our agricultural roots. Whether starting a small garden, supporting local farmers, or exploring agricultural entrepreneurship, we can contribute to the revival of Nigerian agriculture. On this Independence Day, let us renew our commitment to building a prosperous, self-reliant Nigeria. Let us heed the call to return to the land and ensure that agriculture once again becomes a cornerstone of our nation's development.

Together, we can cultivate a brighter future for Nigeria, where the land sustains us, and we, in turn, nurture our beloved nation.

Happy 63rd Independence Anniversary, Nigeria!

Changing Sociology and Education

Changing Sociology and Education

I observed that education plays a significant role in shaping and changing sociology, reflecting and influencing the broader social landscape. In Nigeria, where I grew up, rural areas are agricultural communities. With formal education, the native sociology of these communities changed over time. Does education distort indigenous sociology or enhance it? That is a million-dollar question. Nevertheless, education and sociology are interconnected in many ways.

Changing Sociology

Changing Sociology

Bottomline, social changes often make our humanity better. For example, once upon a time, there was racial separate living or apartheid in some parts of the world, but that is no more. Likewise, there was a time women were not allowed to vote, but that is history today. Religion plays a significant role in social change. The goal of most religions is to evangelize and get more converts. When this happens, it significantly impacts people's social outlook and worldview. All these culminate into political leanings and ideologies, which play prominent roles in State policies, programs, and the direction the society goes.

Nigeria's foreignness

Nigeria's foreignness

I have a dream, as Martin Luther King Jnr said. But my vision is for a better Nigerian Society. A society that will see the inflow of diasporans like the Jews came back to their homeland. A Country that will have economic recovery at a rate fast enough to be the envy of other nations. Every tongue and tribe in the geographic space called Nigeria will have one hope, destiny, and future to behold, where love for one another will thrive and flourish—a place of prosperity and God's land where everything will be possible.

Nigeria, a Country with many Nations

Nigeria, a Country with many Nations

Nothing is as joyful as the proper integration of various ethnic nationalities in the geographical space called Nigeria into one big nation with one voice, destiny, hope, and future. A place where an average Chukwuemeka will call Badagry his homeland and where an average Olarinre will call Umuagbo in Imo State his hometown, and Musa will live and prosper in Eripa in Osun State without feeling like they are settlers or visitors.

Episode 26 - Yoruba Poem - "Ise ni Oogun Ise"

As a Yoruba boy, the language and culture taught giving respect to elders, people in positions of authority. It teaches the values of hard work and patience, and resilience. As  I pondered on all these, I got reminded of the powerful Yoruba poem, "Ise ni Oogun Ise."

Episode 23 - President Olusegun Obasanjo @ 85

Obasanjo is a rare-bred Nigerian. He is a man you cannot just ignore, friend or foe. My evaluation of him is that he is a Pan-Africanist and unapologetically Pan-Nigerian. I also found him to be a brave and down-to-heart individual.

Episode 21 Time is Time

Episode 21 Time is Time

Time is time, and it is called time because of time.

Time will always be time because we will always set time

When we do, we work assiduously to meet up and be on time

Each being is blessed with it

Each manages his/her time

To the prudent, no time is ever wasted.

To the blessed souls, they keep time on time.

Seldom do people prosper without being a good steward

Of time, which is a universal gift to all.

Episode 20: Dr. Martin Luther King jr. January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968

Almost every word of MLK eventually turned out to be quotable quotes. One could mentally catch his energies during public speaking in the air. His passion for inclusive America was clear and indisputable. Moreover, he was so compassionate that he identified with struggling Americans.

Grassroots mobilization and the coming together of the leaders of thought, discussions, and conversations are necessary ingredients in nation-building. So please, listen and help share and let's double up on the conversation and move the country forward.

Episode 17 The Prince of Peace

Alas! This time and season of the year, like every other year, is for joy and merriment. Well, rightly so, if only to celebrate the Prince of Peace in righteousness and holiness. We know that we are at a time when folks buy, give and exchange gifts. But, most often than not, even corporate bodies would shut down and allow people to go on vacation to spend time with friends and family, are all these for the Prince of Peace?

Episode 16. Celebrating Chief Ebenezer Remilekun Olasupo Obey Fabiyi

There are excellent people in this world today that we take for granted and fail to celebrate while they are alive. In the Global Perspective initiative, I intend to identify great people that have impacted lives in unlikely and unnoticeable ways and commemorate them. But, most importantly, when they are alive, they can hear us say good things about them, not in a sycophantic way but as a matter of fact. So, for one reason or the other, I felt led to celebrate Chief Fabiyi.

Episode 15. General Colin Luther Powell (1937-2021).

I join millions of people to celebrate the life and time of Colin Luther Powell, a man I watched with a keen interest for more than twenty-five years. General Powell was among the individuals that I watched, followed, and paid attention to even though at a far distance. But unfortunately, I could not meet him until his death, just like I painfully could not meet Senator John McCain.

Episode 14. Discover you

Episode 14. Discover you

Knowledge Life helps people in their quest for self-discovery to discover who you are and your hidden potentials and capacities that you did not imagine you ever had. The talents you never knew you had.  The impediments to self-discovery have always been insecurity, self-doubt, low self-esteem, and looking for an external approver. In addition, a lack of self-development at every stage of human endeavor can also be an impediment. So, for self-discovery, seeking knowledge, and getting an education, I mean continuous education by reading widely and moving from known areas to unknown ones.

Episode 13. Declutter

Episode 13. Declutter

In the last episode, I talked about Knowledge life. However, further thoughts on the topic bring me to declutter. Knowledge life should lead to people getting rid of unimportant things in life, which if not removed could lead to a burden, unnecessary weight, load, and a big distraction to a good and quality life.

Episode 12. Knowledge Life.

Episode 12. Knowledge Life.

The Global Perspective initiative is about knowledge-based life. Recent global events with false and incorrect information going around like wildfire with millions believing are troubling. My thinking is that when people have the necessary information, they will tend to ignore falsehood. Although no one in this world can be self-sufficient in knowledge, people start learning from birth. Recent research suggests that babies begin to absorb language inside the womb during the last ten weeks earlier than previously determined (Mann, 2013).

Episode 11 Another Tongue.

Episode 11 Another Tongue.

In clear terms, accent gives everyone away. Although some people have the gift and the ability to change how they talk flawlessly to adapt to the host community or environment, I do not have such a gift. Accents are inherent and primarily affected by where one grows up. Merriam Webster dictionary defines accent as "a distinctive manner of expression: such a way of speaking typical of a particular group of people and especially of the natives or residents of a region." So, it then means that it has nothing to do with intellect, wisdom and makes some superhuman or less.

In other words, one should expect various accents from place to place, country to country, tribe to tribe, as it is just another tongue that is different and peculiar to people. And so, next time we meet people who talk in another way than us, let us keep in mind that the way they sound unique and different is the same way we sound foreign to them. Therefore, we need to accept one another's uniqueness and let that not make us fear, suspect, or misjudge ourselves because it is just another tongue.

Episode 10 'We are the World"

Episode 10 'We are the World"

In 1985, 36 years ago, a group of musicians in the U.S. came together to produce a single album called the U.S.A. for Africa "We are the World." The seven-minute video shook the World as it suddenly became famous and went viral using today's language. However, that is not the critical thing and lesson to learn fast forward to 2021. My goal in the Global Perspective Podcast initiative is to relate the principle behind "We are the world" and encourage people to reset civil engagements and conversations in a way that will move humanity forward and peace to be the center of our political discussion.

Episode 9, Flip the Coin - 9/11 Edition

Today, 20 years ago, America came under heavy attack by some extremists with the parochial, unholy, and dangerous belief system that killing others is the way to please their maker. It has been a long 20 years after, and it is a blessing to be alive today. I stand with millions of fellow Americans to honor the memory of those who lost their lives directly or indirectly due to 9/11. America is still in the healing process. In this episode of the Global Perspective podcast, I will be talking about how we can continue to heal.

Episode 8. Words Matter

My goal on the podcast is to lend my voice to lower the high temperature of social-political ideologies that have assumed extreme dimensions where extremism seems to gain followers. Moderate voices appear weak and insignificant to the extent that good people take back seats and withdraw their voices from global issues because moderation seems unprofitable. We need to bring civility, decency, and thoughtfulness back to civil discussions and conversations. This episode explains how much our words matter.

Episode 6 with Dr. T. Ayodele Ajayi

In this Episode of Global Perspective, Dr. Ajayi, a father, husband, Pastor, and Consultant Psychiatrist, shared his thoughts using his varied life experiences with Ranti Ladapo.

The goal is to lower the high temperature of social-political ideologies that have assumed extreme dimensions where extremism seems to gain followers and moderate voices appear weak. As a result, good people take back seats and withdraw their voices, and it must stop. Instead, we need to bring civility, decency, and thoughtfulness back to civil discussions and conversations.

Also, people of we would like to hear from people who have rich and diverse backgrounds. Rich and varied experiences help individuals to bring a broader perspective into play in one's worldview.
