Omar Miranda-"Put Some Oil On It!"-March 16, 2019

In the wake of the recent horrific attack on Muslim worshippers in New Zealand, I talk about the importance of using the power of love to change all the relationships in our culture and our world. God's answer to hatred, division, anger, and violence was--and is--love!

Philippians 2: 1-11, NLT

Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.

Though he was God,
he did not think of equality with God
as something to cling to.
Instead, he gave up his divine privileges;
he took the humble position of a slave
and was born as a human being.
When he appeared in human form,
he humbled himself in obedience to God
and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor
and gave him the name above all other names,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

Omar Miranda-God: The Ultimate "Life Hack"

Omar Miranda-God: The Ultimate "Life Hack"

Want to know how to live "your best life now?!"

Then check out God’s "Life Hack!"

We spend so much of our lives looking for a leg up on life. Several weeks ago I came across something on YouTube called “TED Talks: Life Hacks.” It was basically a series of short videos in which experts in their specific fields of study gave people “secrets” and “formulas” on how to live life more effectively and efficiently so they could be more happy and productive.

The idea seems to be that, instead of living your life ineffectively, you can listen to these experts and bypass years of negative experiences, bad choices, habits, and addictions, and live in the best way that life has to offer. I think this series of TED talks has, unfortunately, been very successful because that this is a core need everyone has—but, sad to say, they won’t find much of a solution in the TED talks.

In Jeremiah 33:2, 3 God speaks to us through His prophet Jeremiah: “This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it—the Lord is his name: ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know’ ” (NIV).

God reminds us that He made it all—including us! And if we seek Him, He promises not only to answer us, but to “tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” I don’t know about you, but that’s an offer that’s too good to pass up: a relationship with God and insight into stuff that I wouldn’t be able to access any other way.

Want a real “life hack”? Connect with God; He’ll hook you up to His database of knowledge, and you won’t be sorry. Getting God = everything! Not getting God = nothing! Don’t wait another second. Choose God today; it’ll be the smartest decision you’ll ever make.

Omar Miranda-Taming Your Tongue!-March 2, 2019

This podcast is in response to a listener request...you know who you are! This one's for you! Thanks for the great idea for a topic.

The tongue can bring death or life;
those who love to talk will reap the consequences.

--Proverbs 18:21

Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.             Ephesians 4:29

Dear brothers and sisters, not many of you should become teachers in the church, for we who teach will be judged more strictly. Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way. We can make a large horse go wherever we want by means of a small bit in its mouth. And a small rudder makes a huge ship turn wherever the pilot chooses to go, even though the winds are strong. In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches.

But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire. And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself.

People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish, but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison. Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right! 11 Does a spring of water bubble out with both fresh water and bitter water? Does a fig tree produce olives, or a grapevine produce figs? No, and you can’t draw fresh water from a salty spring.    --James 3:1-12

How to Control Your Tongue

Take control of what I say, O Lord,
and guard my lips.  --Proverbs 141:3

How to Interact with Someone who is Being Disrespectful and/or Verbally Abusive

Don't do it. Tell them to stop immediately and if you don't, you will leave! Don't allow someone to treat you like garbage or talk to you like that, either! Many times physical distance allows both of you to cool down and give you some perspective. Even if they tell you that they "love you", the fact is: they don't--or else they would treat you with more respect!

Omar Miranda-Sex & Sexuality: God's Way-01/19/19

Omar Miranda-Sex & Sexuality: God's Way-01/19/19

In this episode I discuss the earth-shattering book that everybody's talking about:  Shameless: A Sexual Reformation

This book slams what God (and his Church) has to say about sex and sexuality and paints God as (author's words) "...keeping people from flourishing through their own sex and sexuality..."

I discuss the popular--but dangerous--relativistic, no-holds-barred, listen to your heart, "do whatever you feel" worldview espoused by this author and it's dangers. I remind the listener that all our choices have consequences that cannot be undone or avoided. I also examine what God has to say about doing sex and sexuality His way--and why it's not only the best way to live, but, really, the only way!

I discuss three Bible passages and apply them to how a Christian should seek to effectively live their sexual lives in this world:

1. The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?But I, the Lord, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.” - Jeremiah 17:9-10

2. Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality,or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10

3. So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses. When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. - Galatians 5:16-21
