Ok, this episode was a little off the cuff as you may be able to tell, but the info. is SOLID.

I hate knowing that so many people out there have to dread a fraction of the year due to something "out of their control." BUT, what if there was something you COULD do? That's exactly what we'll talk about today.

Lucas Wolfe: CBT and His Book “My Perfect Life” (SECOND APPEARENCE) #043

There is nothing better than bringing an old guest back on to see what they’re working on now! Lucas Wolfe, who was our guest for episode #017, has recently published a book called “My Perfect Life: How Depression Almost Ended It And How I Found Purpose Through Pain.” In this book, he chronicles his journey with mental health issues (starting all the way back in high school), to where he is at today (now in his late 20’s). During this episode, we took a pretty interesting route and focused on something Lucas believes was very important in learning to manage his mental health challenges. What is it you may ask? Cognitive behavioral therapy! Check out this episode for some great insights from a great guy! And, as always, let us know what you thought :). 1 Year Sober - Why I Did It, What It Was Like, And Where I'll Go From Here #040

1 Year Sober - Why I Did It, What It Was Like, And Where I'll Go From Here #040

This past year was a super interesting experience. I did something that I thought would be at least somewhat challenging, but honestly, it wasn't bad at all. It made a million questions go through my head, some specific to actual drug abuse, and some much broader.

I do know one thing... If you're someone who has thought about giving a challenge like this a try, I say go for it. I certainly don't see how any bad could come from it!

Also, I'd REALLY love feedback from this episode if possible, perhaps even more so than normal. It'll make more sense once you listen to the episode.

Thank you as always for your support. This ESPECIALLY goes out to my amazing friends and family who did not blink and eye when I told them about my decision to try the fully-sober life.

Dr. Josh Friedman - When A Doctorate In Psychology From NYU Isn't Enough #039

Dr. Josh Friedman - When A Doctorate In Psychology From NYU Isn't Enough #039

A therapist by trade, Dr. Josh Friedman knew there was something missing relatively early on in his career. There were certain patients that would come into the therapy sessions and/or use the medications prescribed to them by a psychiatrist, but for these individuals, these forms of treatment just didn't seem to work. Surely, some got a LOT better, but the amount that didn't was too great for Dr. Friedman to ignore.

In this episode, we dive into his journey of mixing the best of both the conventional and functional models of healthcare. The things that Dr. Friedman learned completely transformed the way he practices and, as a result, he has been able to have much higher success rates with those suffering with mental health issues.

Bryan Kerstein - Kicking Addiction's A** Once and For All #038

This is a very special episode. Our guest, Bryan Kerstein, is apart of a group of individuals who helped me change my entire life around over 6 years ago now. Little did I know at the time, Bryan was still battling his own demons.

In the past year, Bryan has made the decision to change his life once and for all. He is successfully beating over a decade's worth of addiction, and I truly have never seen him this happy and confident. It is a wonderful thing.

Can Phobias Resolve Naturally? (Want Your Feedback) #037

Can Phobias Resolve Naturally? (Want Your Feedback) #037

I've noticed something super interesting over the past two years: My once phobic level fear of flying seems to have virtually disappeared. Resolving that type of mental health problem was never something I even considered doing naturally. However, after a recent experience on a helicopter, it seems almost undeniable that my healing naturally correlates with a lessening of my phobic-level fears.

I want to hear from others who have dealt with phobias, especially those who have overcome them!

The Coronavirus Pandemic And Our Mental Health #033

A last-minute editing issue forced me to fly solo tonight, BUT it doesn't mean this episode went to waste... I had been thinking about addressing the coronavirus directly on this podcast, but wasn't sure where to fit it in. Since I didn't make the decision to do it, it looked like circumstances did it for me.

Many people who were already dealing with mental health issues prior to this are experiencing a worsening of symptoms. Many who had NEVER really dealt with much in the world of mental health issues are experiencing them for the first time. This episode is for both parties.

Brittany Ohl - Anxiety GONE In Less Than A Week??? #032

Brittany Ohl - Anxiety GONE In Less Than A Week??? #032

In this episode, I had the privilege of interviewing yet another individual who had their life changed by functional medicine. ⁣

In one of the quickest turnarounds I've ever seen, our guest, Brittany Ohl, used a special kind of testing to dramatically lower levels of inflammation in her body virtually overnight. What is most interesting to me, is that this is a test I've used for YEARS with clients! It's always great to hear success stories from outside sources. ⁣

Brittany's experience with all of this has made such an impression on her that she has now decided to go into the functional healthcare field herself so that she can one day help other's resolve their health challenges. ⁣

Tune into this episode to hear the details of this AWESOME story! ⁣

Brittany has kindly given me permission to share her Instagram handle in case anyone has questions for her. You can reach her at @brittanyohl.⁣

Nicole Meckley - Saving Her Sister #031

Nicole Meckley - Saving Her Sister #031

Could you imagine taking custody of your 14 year old sister when you yourself are only 21? For Nicole and Kylie Meckley, that was reality.⁣

Kylie, the younger of the two sisters, dealt with some very unfortunate circumstances from an early age. Seeing what was happening to her sister, Nicole jumped in to try to stop it. ⁣

After several years of tying to get Kylie to come and live with her, Kylie finally decided to do so at age 14. When you listen to the episode and hear the circumstances Kylie was dealing with, you will have nothing but respect for her level of courage in being able to make the choice that she did. ⁣

This episode brings with it a perspective we haven’t had on the show before—the perspective of a young woman who was watching someone she loves deal with mental health and addiction issues they never deserved to have. With this new perspective comes lessons learned about mental health that we don’t always hear on the show, and I am so thankful that Nicole reached out to me to share this with all of us.⁣

As always, please let us know what you thought of the episode!⁣

Scott Werner - Using Photography To Build Confidence #029

Scott Werner - Using Photography To Build Confidence #029

In this episode we interview an old childhood friend of mine, and one of the nicest guys I know, Scott Werner. ⁣

⁣Scott and I dealt with mental health challenges for very different reasons, but the sadder part is, neither of us knew that the other one was dealing with them.⁣

⁣After receiving multiple concussions from sports during his childhood and teenage years, Scott began to deal with a variety of physical and mental health symptoms. Even when the physical health issues passed, though, the mental health issues stuck around.⁣

⁣Overtime, through therapy and positive coping strategies (such as photography), Scott learned that he deal with his mental health issues if he shared what he was going through and put in the work to do so.⁣

Connor OHanlon - Learning To Balance Mental Health Throughout College #028

Connor OHanlon - Learning To Balance Mental Health Throughout College #028

In this episode, we interview a childhood friend of mine, Connor OHanlon.⁣

Connor was not someone who would've ever suspected that they were going to deal with true anxiety and depression. I personally always remember Connor being a super confident, friendly guy with many different hobbies and interests.⁣

⁣Once college came around, though, his mental health would begin to take an unexpected turn.⁣

⁣What I love about this episode is that Connor has a story that is so relatable to so many people. I feel that I am constantly talking to individuals who saw their mental health suffer in college. It's a new environment that, despite grade schools attempts at preparing us, no one is ever truly ready for. ⁣

⁣Connor was extremely transparent with us in that he is still in the process of healing, but he has a ton of great value to add to anyone who tunes into this episode. ⁣

Amber Gordon - From Bedridden To Successful Therapist And Coach! #027

WHOA! Even with all of the things we've talked about on this podcast, I am still 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 learning about all of the many ways that mental health issues can manifest.⁣

In this episode, we talk with Amber Gordon, who is someone who represents everything this podcast is about. This woman has been through hell and back both mentally and physically, and I am so thankful she joined us to share her story. ⁣

Unbeknownst to her, Amber dealt with chronic Lyme disease that managed to stay under the radar until things got BAD. ⁣

After years of struggling, a moment that seems like it was set up by the universe occurred. This moment brought with it one last shred of hope, and it would be the exact one Amber needed to start the path of healing. ⁣

Tune into this episode to hear an absolutely incredible story from someone with a level of passion that's totally contagious!⁣

From abusive relationships, to an eventual diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder, to following her passion, Krystina's story hits on SO many different topics. If you are someone that loves hearing stories of perseverance, this is absolutely the episode for you.⁣

Jordan Perseveres After Losing Loved Ones #024

Jordan Perseveres After Losing Loved Ones #024

We have the pleasure of introducing Jordan as our first international guest on the OMHC podcast.⁣

Jordan was not someone who dealt with mental health issues growing up. In fact, it was something that he never really thought about. This would all change forever after the loss of his brother.⁣

In a very short period of time, Jordan experienced many tough situations and tragedies. It is a classic case of "circumstantial" mental health issues, something we don't talk about nearly enough on this podcast. I am thankful to have had Jordan on, because he shared with us how he was eventually able to deal with the loss of multiple loved ones in his life. ⁣

Jordan created an awesome tribute video for his mom. It can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjx-6VAWs64&feature=youtu.be&fbclid=IwAR0NTkvWNSnVZuq7lhpx4tCqSQr5LSmLG0oEt6gObN5R5tioajH-uPxKFw0⁣

Circumstantial vs. Non-Circumstantial Anxiety & Depression #007

Circumstantial vs. Non-Circumstantial Anxiety & Depression #007

Hey everyone!

Health Coach Ev here, and I'm flying solo this week talking about the differences between what I call "circumstantial" and "non-circumstantial" anxiety and depression. In the podcast, we go over how to figure out which one a person is dealing with, and the notably different approaches that can be taken for the individual depending on what type of anxiety and depression they're dealing with.

Please shoot me a message to let me know if you like this kind of content, as well as what parts you'd like me to touch on more in the future. Thanks!
