Ever wondered if the presentation of scientific history and academia today has as much integrity as the scientific procedure?

As two young scientists, we aim to bring to light how the field has been, and still is, embedded in systemic racism and consider how we can improve representation in science.

Moving forward

We have made it, Episode 5, the finale🚨. Tonight we talk about all things reflections and solutions. This series has explored integrity in science and how this is not always the case. Today we aim to provide pro-active solutions, highlight what is already out there helping student and academics and finally what we think can be improved🎙

We talk about what we feel as individuals can help to improve representation on science, reflecting on our own experiences moving through education and being exposed to science and university, and the different access schemes/outreach/societies/individuals(!) we were really grateful for.

Playing by Different Rules

Playing by Different Rules

Even once integrated into science, it’s not a level playing field. What impact does not being taught by ANY academics of the same ethnicity have on students, and how does this relate to the results of studies showing that those from underrepresented groups receive less reward for their research? What are the undergraduate statistics for science subjects by ethnicity?

We get personal with our experience as science undergrads at University so tune in and join us!

Excluded

Excluded

Are there really fewer scientists from certain ethnic backgrounds because they were historically underrepresented or is it actually because they were historically excluded? 👥

In this episode, we get into why our textbooks show so few non-white scientists and the impact this has on young scientists as yet another barrier to academia... 📕

We also talk about a couple of our favourite scientists so be sure to tune in!🎙️
