Episode 4 (part 2): Langston Allston
In this episode (a two-parter!) I talk to Langston Allston and my sister Aria Delanoche about what to do with two shirts: one I bought in New Orleans in 2014, and a shirt I bought this past December 2020. We spoke live from WORM Rotterdam's radio studio on April 6, 2021 about no-waste sustainability in the fashion industry, her self-taught 3D rendering practice, and about responsibility and intentionality as a conscious maker.

In this episode, I talk through an impulse purchase with Mariana Aboim, Ghislain Amar, Sophie Bates, Larisa David, Clementine Edwards, and Parker Kay, and Niloufar Nematollahi before speaking to Odie, the person behind the Instagram account @not.ur.boyfriend who made the shirt in collaboration with @renaissance__man.
Odie gives context to origin story of the shirt, their practice in making memes, and their overarching practices in community defence, mental health support, and collective liberation. More about them below:
Notyrbf reluctantly calls themself an artist and lives in Minneapolis, MN. Their work is rooted in their personal growth through poverty, familial trauma/loss, relationships, and addiction/sobriety, and is framed by their focus on collective liberation.
Episode 1: A kind of introduction (for Spotify)
Recorded live from Worm Radio's studio on Tuesday, March 9th, this is a meandering introduction to On Packing Light.
On Packing Light is an artistic research project by me, Lili Huston-Herterich. It uses the method of episodic sound (it's a podcast) to think through the subject of textiles and clothing, ranging from personal accounts to political histories. On Packing Light explores the personal and political sentimental capacity of textiles and speculates the ways in which capitalism has shaped our relationship to and understanding of our personal belongings. The research process generates the material for the sound works, so research and production happens simultaneously through the duration of the project.
This episode features some readings from Sara Ahmed's 'A Phenomonology of Whiteness' (2007), Anne Boyer's 'Garments Against Women' (2015), a recording of Elizabeth Huston-Herterich and Meg Huston shopping, and the tracks Erykah Badu's 'Bag Lady' (2000) and Queen Naija's 'Pack Lite' (2020), which unfortunately are only available in full playback for Spotify users :(.
