Joined the Army in 2016 (at 28 years old) - left active duty in 2022, spent my whole career in 1st Ranger Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. In the same company and platoon the whole time. Last 6 months in the Army I interned at West Point in their Center of Enhanced Performance. First job out of the Army, I was a high performance coach for high level executives, athletes, ect. Currently, I am a stay at home dad for my two kids and am working part time as a guide at an Acton Academy with middle school aged kids. I am one of the first Apogee Certified Coaches. Hey there! My name is Kyle Thowsen.

I have been training dogs for 7+ years.

I'm the only TWC Certified dog trainer In Nevada.

My goal is to help dogs and owners live their best lives while enjoying as much freedom as possible.

My training program focuses on the emotions of the dog and having a strong relationship with them. The dogs I train understand true control in the real world, not just a training room for a treat. This allows us to be off leash with our dogs and know they will listen even if they are excited or want to chase things like rabbits.

Today I’m honored to have Sean Liscom, author of The Ranch book series available on Amazon. I’ve been reading the entire series and thought I might as well ask if the author would be on the show, and surprisingly, he said yes! So today, we have a great chat about the origins of The Ranch series, his writing method, life living off the grid, and the art of living a life of being prepared. Sean has a background in wild land firefighting, and we learn all of the lessons that come from a life of unpredictability. IG @jasonwsterling Sean's Bio: I was born in October of 1970 in California but have lived in northern Nevada since 1977. At an early age, I was bitten by the Fireman bug. In the spring of 1988 I joined the local volunteer fire department. I served in several different capacities from Firefighter I, EMT-B, Engine Operator, Safety Officer, Training Officer, Engine Captain and Type III Incident Commander. I retired on 01-01-11. During the summer of 1989, I found myself joining up with a government contracted engine strike team. I also served with them in different positions that mirrored my volunteer service with the exception of becoming a Strike Team Leader. With 5 Type III engines, two water tenders and two service vehicles under my control, I had to quickly learn how to deal with the "human" element. I must have done okay because they kept asking me to come back to work for them. That lasted until the season ended in 1999. In September of 2016, I sat down with my laptop and started writing. The story that unfolded in my head and on the computer screen is what I submitted to Amazon a year later. Of course, there were re-writes and the inevitable writers block, but I managed to work my way through that with the help and support of my beautiful wife, Denise. Joining us today is Brown Belt Jiu-Jitsu pro Mike Lady. Mike joins us to talk not just about Jiu-Jitsu, but also his background in software development, the current state of AI becoming mainstream, a TON of ChatGPT discussion, and other current events. Mike has his own podcast, Humans of Grappling, so there’s yet another thing we have in common. I hope you enjoy this podcast as much as I did!

In his own words: I mentally and physically grapple with technology and people, respectively (for the most part). My primary disciplines of “grappling” are DevOps and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

I feel that these two aspects (mental and physical exertion) of my life are what keep me a balanced, productive, and happy human.

For the beginning part of my professional life, I have been a seeker, listener, and consumer of information, as one would expect for a novice professional. As I continue to develop my craft, I feel that I know enough now (7 years in, still not a lot) to help those who are just starting out by recording my thoughts in my blog posts, podcast, and youtube channel.

I like writing mostly because it helps me crystallize my thoughts to a very precise degree that is usually not practical in conversation. My process involves thinking about an idea to write, writing it, and then going back to rephrase, qualify, and clarify those thoughts ad nauseum.

This process is enjoyable to me because I have enough time to think about exactly what I want to say and mean. It is similar to writing, debugging, and testing code in process and in spirit; the satisfaction of creating something from “nothing” and making it work.

Today we have Eric Wohlwend of Clear Sky Training on the show! Eric and his company train investors to be better at what they do, while having a family-first approach to all of his business.  Eric is a family man, pilot, scuba diver, and great at what he does. Join us for some great conversation and some awesome investing tips.

In his own words: Eric has been a full-time Real Estate Investor since 2003.  He received both the Ohio and the National Professional Housing Provider certification in 2006.  He has been a Real Estate Agent since 2010.  He has repositioned more than 1000 multi-family residential units.  He is IREM CPM trained & has a Bachelors of Science from Kent State University.  

In the last two decades Eric has used millions of dollars of private money to finance hundreds of multi-family units, single-family homes, about a dozen storefronts, a few mobile home parks, a storage facility and part of an airport.  He specializes in finding deals that are “On Sale”, then buying and managing his managers.  Eric’s ability to find deals in creative ways and then fund them through alternative funding sources has led to a huge expansion during the crash of 2007-2009.  When banks stopped lending money to small investors, he developed a network of over 50 private lenders to finance new deals.  He currently controls millions of dollars of real estate.  He has owned everything from  Houses to Airports and Vending machines.  He still has single family and multi-family residential properties as well as commercial real estate.

His Training:  He has mentored and taught students from many states and countries on 3 continents, with ages ranging from 7 to over 70.  He is an international speaker that has been in front of thousands of students from all over the world.  He has written articles for various investment newsletters.  He is the past president of the Alliance Property Owners and has bee on the board of multiple REIA’s (Real Estate Investment Associations)  Eric has written multiple articles in various Real Estate Investment newsletters.  Eric was published in Business Innovators Magazine and is a #1 Best Selling Author. 

He is president and CEO of Clear Sky Properties, Inc. He also is a managing member of various other real estate holding companies, Clear Sky Training, Ltd and other companies.  He runs an independent Cash Flow Club.  Every Wednesday he dedicates to helping others.  He starts by chairing a free breakfast for anyone interested in investing or running a business.  This is followed by giving time and guidance to up and coming entrepreneurs. Then he ends the day with an investor dinner.

Eric has helped many people, with limited money and credit, start investing in Real Estate, Precious Metals and Crypto Currency.  Using what he teaches, both of his kids started buying real estate when they were seven years old.  They did this without his money or credit.

In his free time, he is a pilot, skydiver, SCUBA diver and a life member of the VFW and the NRA…
