DOMAP #8 - Taliya Hafiz
Since submitting her Michaelmas Song Writing Competition entry ‘Return Home’, Taliya Hafiz (Music; St Mary’s College; 2020-2021) has gone from strength-to-strength within the DOMAN community! Alongside studying a Masters at Durham University Music Department, the Mary’s student has also allotted composing for the European Association of Tatar Woman (“Tatar Hanim”) and competing with Durham University Dancesport into her busy schedule! Though only just being able to start attending Durham University (due to the current COVID climate), it is clear to see that the events of the last year have not dented her drive to produce transcendental music in the slightest. In this episode of the DOMAP, Alumni Relations Officer George Bone sits down with Taliya to talk about: her drive to create music through the pandemic, the importance of empowering female musicians and the artistic ramification of being a multi-linguist! ____________________________________________________________________________ Her new E.P. “S.A.D” is scheduled to stream from ALL music distribution websites from this summer! Stay in touch with Taliys’s social media below to learn precise dates: Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/taliyahafiz/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/taliyahafiz/ Soundcloud - https://soundcloud.com/taliya-hafiz Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/artist/62gEI2vxwKzFaPm2gEMMAn?si=ji-4M_EDSgy2Fy64s-tzIg YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/TaliyaHafiz ____________________________________________________________________________ Learn how you can be involved with the DOMAN through our social media accounts: Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/DOMANMUSIC Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/doman_social/ YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNp3OjbZ-sKiNx1ahYCbv5Q/featured Anchor - https://anchor.fm/originalmusicdurham Email us on - originalmusicdurham@gmail.com

DOMAP #7 - Kat
Here she is: your Epiphany Song Writing Competition Winner, Kat Pittalis! She impressed the judges with her simplistic, yet effective, timbral building in her winning song “Easier”. The passion that she conveyed through her lyricism and drive created not only an extreme contrast to her Domix submission “Mind Games”, but impressed the judges enough to beat off an extremely strong field! On the whole Kat has taken the music scene at Durham by force this year, even with all the stresses of third-year backgrounding her journey. As the deputy music editor for the Palatinate, host of her own Purple Radio show (Undiscovered Artists) and St Aidan’s College Music representative, she’s not leaving any stone unturned. In this episode of the DOMAP, Alumni Relations Officer George Bone sits down with Kat to talk about: the pandemic on her drive to create new music, the societies and friends that are keeping her grounded, the backstory behind “Easier” and her ever metamorphosing musical spheres of influence! ____________________________________________________________________________ Catch up with Kat on Instagram and Twitter using the links below: Instagram: @Kat_Pittalis Twitter: @katpittalis Listen to all the Epiphany Song Writing Competition entries, plus her submission to the Domix below: Song Writing Competition Concert (“Easier” at 19:48): https://youtu.be/gAbjYaYRw2g?t=1188 Domix Entry (“Mind Game” at 3:07): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mteAp-ocfso ____________________________________________________________________________ Learn how you can be involved with the DOMAN through our social media accounts: Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/DOMANMUSIC Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/doman_social/ YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNp3OjbZ-sKiNx1ahYCbv5Q/featured Anchor - https://anchor.fm/originalmusicdurham Email us on - originalmusicdurham@gmail.com

DOMAP #6 - Samuel Read
As a composer for Durham-based film company Keylight Studios, and co-founder of Unredacted Production, Samuel Read (Music; St Cuthbert’s Society; 2017-2020) took every opportunity available to him by the scruff of the neck! We managed to catch an interview with Read this month on the week he began his studies at the National Film and Television School: marking his transition away from undergraduate life, to that of a postgraduate. In this episode of the DOMAP, Alumni Relations Officer George Bone and President Taylor Morse talk about - among other things - the ramification of COVID on the film industry, and the “bittersweet” feeling of working on a movie centred around the pandemic we are very much still living through. We even attempt to cause a riff between him and his studio, with Read - to our dismay - not giving in to peer pressure! __________________________________________________________________________ Keylight Studios’ new short film “Connected, Connection” is available to watch for free on Vimeo. You can also listen to the soundtrack, and interact with both Keylight and Read by clicking the links below: Samuel Read: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Samuel-Read-100606881757627 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/samueljread/ Website: https://samuelreadcomposer.com/ IMDb: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm11635557/ Keylight Studios: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/KeylightStudiosUK/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/keylightstudios/ Website: https://www.keylight-studios.co.uk/ “Connected, Connection”: Links to the movie, itself: https://vimeo.com/490817408/b72301e6bf?fbclid=IwAR34f4VdjG7rOkZdkRhzoIhmWmbEX1-uPUgSYtXfXrIwsc9stq02M89BIqg Links to the soundtrack: https://ffm.to/bpdnkvo.ofp ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Learn how you can be involved with the DOMAN through our social media accounts: Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/DOMANMUSIC Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/doman_social/ YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNp3OjbZ-sKiNx1ahYCbv5Q/featured Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/3T47Q7tmoK8QGkeAbfg0EZ?si=iMNomhnAQl6FV3fX69kkPQ Email us on - originalmusicdurham@gmail.com

DOMAP #5 - NYPA
NYPA are a post-punk, krautrock group formed last academic year. After months of improvisational sessions, Samuel Osman, Andrews Anderson, Dylan Wright, Mussa Ahmad, Tom Hutchinson and Xavier Crean recently recorded and released their debut EP “Mzungu Kizungu” at Rocking Horse Studios in Durham. Underpinned by repetitive, machine-like funk grooves, the band explores an eclectic range of political, social, and emotional themes. In this episode of the DOMAP, Alumni Relations Officer George Bone and President Taylor Morse talk to NYPA about, among other things: their energetic stage presence, their diverse musical backgrounds, and the facebook post that brought them all together! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Their new album “Mzungu Kizungu” is available to stream from ALL music distribution websites! DOMAP #4 - Christmas Special
Happy holidays from all of us at DOMAN! This year has been a challenging one, for not only the society (having to shift a lot of our work online) but - undoubtedly - for the rest of the university community and indeed the world. So what better way to try and bring some festive cheer than via Zoom socialising and arguing over musical opinions! In this term-ending episode of the DOMAP, exec members George Bone, Taylor Morse, James Hughes, Lizzie Lloyd and Ishaan Shukla discuss their most unpopular of musical opinions, some christmas-related and some not! We’ll answer all the important questions, like: how do you pronounce the name of Grimes and Elon Musk’s daughter, and which one of us will be the first to meet them? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 00:00: Intro 01:34: Opinion #1 - “Ambient Music is not Background Music”. 09:43: Opinion #2 - “Grimes is actually sick, despite her child’s name”. 18:19: Opinion #3 - “No more iconic christmas songs will ever be made again”. 24:53: Opinion #4 - “Grunge will never die”. 33:09: Opinion #5 - “Music is actually getting better over time”. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Learn how you can be involved with the DOMAN through our social media accounts: Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/DOMANMUSIC Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/doman_social/ YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNp3OjbZ-sKiNx1ahYCbv5Q/featured Anchor - https://anchor.fm/originalmusicdurham Email us on - originalmusicdurham@gmail.com

DOMAP #3 - Escher
Here they are: your Michaelmas Song Writing Competition Winners, Escher! Not only did they impress the public with their recognisable melody and crisp production, but Sam White and Ed Osborne (1st Year’s; South and Van Mildert) stunned our judges with their lyricism and passion. In this episode of the DOMAP, Alumni Relations Officer George Bone and President Taylor Morse sat down with the two of them to discuss not only their winning song, but their influences and their very close upbringing! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Their new album Scary Earth is available to listen to from Bandcamp NOW; catch up of them on Twitter and Instagram for the latest Escher-related news: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/escherbanduk/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/Escherbanduk Bandcamp: https://escherbanduk.bandcamp.com/releases ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Learn how you can be involved with the DOMAN through our social media accounts: Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/DOMANMUSIC Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/doman_social/ YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNp3OjbZ-sKiNx1ahYCbv5Q/featured Anchor - https://anchor.fm/originalmusicdurham Email us on - originalmusicdurham@gmail.com

DOMAP #2 - Outerrings
Ozgur Kiziltas (2nd Year; Collingwood), while only recently delving into live performances of his eclectic soundscape, has shone recently through both virtual performances, and airtime from BBC Introducing in the North East. Through the infusion of classical and contemporary influences, Oz’s ethereal compositions aim to exploit a very prevalent gap in the Durham music marketspace. In this episode of the DOMAP, Alumni Relations Officer George Bone and President Taylor Morse talk about: the influences on life on music, working with the BBC, and how he - unbeknownst to him - was one of the last people allowed into Turkish airspace in March of this year! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The most recent single from the Outerrings project, “Aliens” is out on SoundCloud and YouTube NOW: SoundCloud - https://soundcloud.com/outerrings YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCk0z18YZDqYQ2nydR_Mqp1w ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Learn how you can be involved with the DOMAN through our social media accounts: Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/DOMANMUSIC Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/doman_social/ YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNp3OjbZ-sKiNx1ahYCbv5Q/featured Anchor - https://anchor.fm/originalmusicdurham Email us on - originalmusicdurham@gmail.com
