Episode 104 (Kyla Charter Interview) The Soul Feature

Episode 104 (Kyla Charter Interview) The Soul Feature

In this Episode 104 of Out Da Box Talks, Host Cril presents a special interview, to launch our New Out Da Box Talks “SOUL FEATURE SERIES” where he hosts an Interview with a talented SOUL Singer, Vocalist, or Producer every 4th Friday of the Month. In this Epsiode Cril talks with one of his favorite New Singers, also Guitarist and Producer "Kyla Charter" about her debut New Album "Edible Flowers" which was released earlier this month exclusively on bandcamp. We talk about her early inspirations to sing, as well as her college training with developing her vocalist skills and what lead to the official release of "Edible Flowers". We also talked about the Production Team "Safe SpaceShip" who contributed exceptionally to the album and her role in the production of the project as well. Kyla gives insight into the significance of the Album Name, the depiction of the Cover Art, as well as the song titles, subject matter and lyrics on the album. She also takes the time to talk about her unique approach as a singer, often vocalizing and slow scatting through her music and even singing over her own background vocals. She talks about being inspired by moments of "Feeling" and the importance of translating that feeling into music beyond just words. Overall the interview is pretty in depth and gives listeners some wonderful insight into who Kyla is as an artist as well as an enhanced understanding and meaning behind the songs on the Album. I strongly encourage you to listen to the album prior to or immediately after this interview as it will make conversation so much more reward for you as a listener. The Album "Edible Flowers" is currently only available on bandcamp but is extremely worth the purchase in my opinion. Kyla is certainly one of my favorite new Soul Artists and I truly look forward to the wonderful music she will be putting out in the future. View link below on bandcamp to check out the album, and certainly feel encouraged to Support with a Purchase if you like what you hear. Episode 94 (Illingsworth Interview)

Episode 94 (Illingsworth Interview)

In this Episode 94 of Out Da Box Talks, Host Cril talks in depth with Detroit Emcee, Producer "Illingsworth" about his inspiration for pursuing music, his thoughtful but humorously clever lyrical approach, his drive for making beats and more.  We talk about some of his music selections from his vast beat tape catalog but delve even deeper into his lyrical catalog which features some extremely clever and thoughtful rhymes.  We talk about his latest single "Around" which finds him singing over some dreamy electro soul production, his recent Emcee Project "I Didn't Think This Through (2017 Demos)" released in May of 2020, his "OLD MAN RAPS" EP released in 2019, his "You're No Fun" single released in 2018 along with the Album, his 2016 Album "I Didn't Ask For This", his "Giant Slide" EP in 2014 and even his hilarious "Dreams In San Franscico" scat jazz track released years ago on bandcamp.  I had a lot of fun doing this interview.  Illingsworth is one of the most skilled and unique Emcees I have heard in recent years.  I feel like he doesn't get as much recognition as he deserves.  His humorous but clever and thoughtful wordplay as a lyricist is something I feel is extremely special to hip hop.  His production embodies the soulful sound that Detroit Music is known for. It was indeed a pleasure chatting with this good brother.  I certainly hope you enjoy.  Also there is a bonus exclusive interview I have with Illingsworth which is available on our Out Da Box Media Patreon Page, I assure yout it's  a really fun and dope listen.  If you like this main interview, I think you'll really enjoy the bonus interview as well.  You can become a patreon by subscribing at the link below. Episode 66 (The "Moses Herman Jacobs" Album Interview)

Episode 66 (The "Moses Herman Jacobs" Album Interview)

In this Episode of Out Da Box Talks, host Cril talks with Seasoned NYC Emcees "Sir Tumes, Mikal Amin, Long Division, San Francisco Producer, DJ Prof. Brian Oblivion and Dupo Studio Designer Jacques Dupoux” about their new Concept and Character based Album entitled "Moses Herman Jacobs".  The album generally has an amazing upbeat and funky production backdrop but the lyrics are clever and dense as each emcee shines lyrically to tell different stories about their character.  The Moses Herman Jacobs Album is loosely inspired by topics like economic inequality, gentrification and confronting the idea of Home: what we've created for ourselves and what has been shaped by the socio-political forces beyond our control. However each Emcee's Character takes the listener further into their unique world and experiences beyond said topics.  Take a listen to this in-depth interview which really taps into how the project came to be as well as each Emcee and the Producer's unique contribution to the project.  View on our Youtube Channel, Out Da Box TV or via our High Quality Audio Podcast on Anchor.fm, Spotify,  Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Sticher, Overcast etc.  Also I highly encouraged you to check out The Moses Herman Jacobs Album now available on bandcamp on other Digital and Streaming Services, I believe you will enjoy the interview a whole lot more after taking a listen.  Enjoy!

In this Episode 65 of Out Da Box Talks, Host Cril talks in depth with Emcees "billy woods" and "ELUCID" aka "Armand Hammer" about how they got their start in pursuing music, to meeting each other and collaborating and coming up with the name "Armand Hammer" as well. The duo also delve deep into the subjects of their Brand New Album "Haram" with Producer Extraordinaire "The Alchemist", how the collaboration came to be and his involvement as producer.  We also talk about a number of the tracks featured on the album, and woods and ELUCID share insight on some of the lyrics and themes happening on the project.  As the interview develops, Cril takes the time to also speak to the group about their successful 2020 LP "Shrines" as well as some of the lyrics and themes taking place on that project as well.  This is a very in depth interview and really hones in to the music of the "Haram Album" as well as 2020's Shrines Album.  I believe true fans of Armand Hammer will appreciate this interview and hopefully new listeners will become familiar with their vast catalogue as Armand Hammer but also as solo artists.  Special thanks to woods and ELUCID for their time spent in the interview.  May this interview bring inspiration and further understanding of the artists creative music efforts.  The interview is also available to watch on our Youtube Channel "Out Da Box TV" at this link below
