Out Of The Bubble

1x
Ep.80 Out of the Bubble with Rebecca McCann, founder of Pro Blo Group.
Whilst the majority of the women on the Out of the Bubble podcast are over 40, sometimes I come across a woman’s story who might be slightly younger but have an inspiring and motivating story to tell that we can all learn from. Rebecca McCann is a self-taught, self-made entrepreneur. Rebecca launched Pro Blo Group in November 2014, initially operating from her mum's kitchen with a plan to sell her hair tool on Ebay however Ebay never happened.  Rebecca launched her brand into Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Bloomingdales, Sainsburys and stores across the globe. The brand is loved worldwide and boasts an organic cult following across social media. With distribution in UK, USA UAE and Russia. Rebecca continues to expand her business at a rapid growth. Lockdown brought a new project, that quickly developed into SLEEP London and Rebecca is following a similar strategy to grow the brand globally.  I just love Rebecca belief in her mantra: Say YES and make it happen! So many women are starting new businesses later and I just know that Rebecca’s story can inspire those sitting on the fence with their own business idea to get started. It’s never too late!  Subjects covered-  Developing entrepreneurial skills early in life   From having an idea to creating a business  Saying YES to life and staying open to new opportunities    Self-belief  Accepting that you will make mistakes along the way  Dealing with fast growth  Networking and being ok to ask for help   Owning your brand and staying true to yourself Motivation and positive mindset  Ambitious future plans  To find out more about Problo- www.problogroup.com  Instagram @problogroup  Instagram @rebecca_pbg Don't miss any of the inspiring Out of the Bubble women, you can go and subscribe at www.rachelperu.co.uk and come and say hello on Instagram! Lilli Badcock is a woman who is embracing life to the full and helping others to do the same. Lilli's is also a  Professional Singer and International Best Selling Author. Anxiety is a common issue in midlife and can often create a huge barrier to people wanting to move forward or change direction later in life. Lilli uses her platforms to share her own experience of coping with anxiety and some of the tips that helped her through it. Ep.78 Out of the Bubble with Tricia Cusden, founder of Look Fabulous Forever make-up brand.
I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing twice now and I still get excited and inspired by her story. Tricia Cusden is the founder of Look Fabulous Forever, an award-winning makeup and skincare brand with a range of products specially formulated for older skin. The brand is proudly pro-age - it's Tricia's belief that age is no barrier to looking and feeling fabulous. She founded the business at the age of 65 having become disillusioned with buying makeup that no longer worked on her older skin and by the anti-ageing language of the beauty industry. In 2013, she took a leap of faith and launched LFF as a face to face social selling business. Thanks to two YouTube videos she posted showing the products being used on older women, she soon changed direction and became an ecommerce brand. She now has over 100 tutorials on YouTube with over 7 million views between them and in 2018, she wrote a book, Living the Life More Fabulous - a guide to beauty, style and empowerment for older women. She also works with her two daughters, Anna who is the managing director and Suzy who is LFF's operations director. Subjects covered- ·  Ditching retirement life ·  Ageist society ·  Inspiration behind Look Fabulous Forever ·  The power of make up ·  Building a community ·  The highs and lows of starting a business ·  A trip to the Oscars ·  Ageism in the beauty industry ·  Pro-ageing ·  Life in lockdown and Tricia’s Super Troopers ·  Make up tips for ageing skin To find out more please visit- www.lookfabulousforever.com Facebook - lookfabulousforeveruk Instagram - @lookfabforever Twitter - @lookfabforever YouTube - Tricia Cusden Don't miss any of the inspiring Out of the Bubble women, you can go and subscribe at www.rachelperu.co.uk and come and say hello on Instagram! Ep.77 Out of the Bubble with inspiring wild swimmer and writer Sara Barnes
This weeks guest fills my instagram feed with so much daily inspiration her passion for wild swimming, writing and photography shines through her work as a self employed editor. Sara Barnes is based in the beautiful and rural Lake District where she finds an endless source of inspiration. I find out why wild swimming in remote places has really stolen her heart. Sara is such an interesting an engaging woman and we had so much to talk about.  I started wild swimming last year during lockdown and found it exhilarating and very calming. Subjects covered- Rural isolation and loneliness: "not only is it hard to meet a partner living in rural Cumbria, working from home and being a single parent, but you feel a total disconnect from the rest of the world. I want to be part of the conversation, part of the bigger picture."  Lockdown life: "when we were locked down in March 2020 I thought, oh, now everyone else is like me and suddenly I didn't feel lonely anymore and became far more connected because my daughter was at home every day, everyone was in the same boat. I had the tools to survive and I thrived actually! It was a paradigm shift for me. Wild swimming and posting my swims with a story make me feel part of a community and I have made friends online and in real life that way." Body confidence: "As a wild swimmer and an active Instagrammer (@bumblebarnes) I often post photos of me in my swimsuit, so I have had to learn to be objective about my body and admit maybe I look good. It's not about being big headed, more being confident and allowing that confidence to shine through. It's strange: I am comfortable with my body, I don't think I've got any major hang ups, to me nudity is natural (in appropriate situations!). But, as a naturally shy person, who hates having photos taken by anyone but my daughter when she gets me to model for her, presenting my body to social media has been a tough journey in itself."  Wild swimming - "how it makes me feel, what benefits I have derived from it - how it has released my creative spirit and ability, brought me through loneliness, loss of friendships and most recently grief of losing mum" Becoming braver-. "Wild swimming makes me feel brave, alive and the best I can be and is the ultimate dichotomy: it brings out the child in me and the sensual woman. If I can be brave enough to walk naked into 3 degree water on my own I can be brave enough to face people who want to put me down, difficult situations or anything else I might need to deal with. Sara also shares some great advice for those wanting to try wild swimming for the first time. There's lots of helpful resources on the following websites https://www.outdoorswimmingsociety.com and https://www.wildswimming.co.uk/outdoor-swimming-society/. You can also search Facebook for any local wild swimming groups near you. Eleanor Mills is the founder and editor in chief of Noon , a new website, platform and community to empower women in midlife. Noon was born through Eleanors frustration at the lack of positive and honest representation of women in midlife in the media. Ep.62 Out of the Bubble with the Queen of podcasts Anna Parker Naples
Welcome back to the new 2021 series and I’m really excited to be kicking off the first episode talking with somebody that is fondly called the Queen of podcasting, Anna Parker Naples.  Anna is a global bestselling author of ‘Podcasting with Impact’ and ‘Get Visible’, both books of which I can highly recommend.  She's also the host of an no.1 international podcast ‘Entrepreneurs Get Visible’. Anna has developed a real passion for helping ambitious entrepreneurs and coaches get seen and heard. Anna's attitude to life shifted dramatically and pivoted down hill until seeking help from a hypnotherapist,  who was also a neuro-linguistic programming professional NLP that began her journey back to recovery. Ep.59 Out of the Bubble with Models of Diversity Ambassador and model Alison Cline Williams
Those of you that have been listening to this podcast for a while will know how passionate I am about seeing more diversity in the media and fashion industry so I was delighted to be joined by one of the Models of Diversity ambassador and model Alison Cline Williams. Alison started a new career 8 months ago at the age of 46 and I love seeing how passionate she is to be part of the conversation of change and is on a mission to push for more Black older models to be more visible. If you've never heard of the charity Models of Diversity then I recommend you look them up. MOD push for better promotion of "equality and diversity for the public benefit by promoting greater diversity in the fashion, beauty and media industries, where people of minority ethnic origin, older people, larger and smaller people, people with a disability, and non-binary gender people are under-represented"  "Being a Black Mature model in her 40’s I don’t feel that there is enough representation at all for people like me. I love what the charity stands for ( in terms of diversity and inclusion) and if I can even make one brand change the way that they look at the older black model or make a women’s like me have more self confidence then I would have made a difference" With this in mind Alison is a perfect fit for her ambassador role. EP.50, Out of the Bubble with me! Getting to know more about the model, body confidence activist and podcast host Rachel Peru.
What better way to celebrate my 50th birthday year than to go solo on the 50th episode of the Out of the Bubble podcast. I am well aware that I should have started the entire podcast series with a little bit more about me and it's often the case that we can be great at sharing other peoples stories and often forget to tell our own. So what better way to celebrate the 50th podcast episode with a getting me to more about me podcast.  My name is Rachel Peru and I am a silver haired curve model, body confidence activist, influencer and the host of the Out of the Bubble podcast. I began my new career as a model at the age of 46 and if you had asked me if I would be doing this in my twenties and thirties, I would be running down the street shouting no thanks! I struggled with a lack of self-belief and body confidence and it wasn’t until I hit my forties that things changed. I am extremely scared of heights, but for my 40th birthday I did a tandem sky dive for charity hoping it would cure me. It didn’t cure the vertigo, but it gave me a badge of courage and I started the decade with a new sense of confidence and excitement as to what I could achieve next. I’ve spent the last ten years saying "Yes" a lot more than "No" with some surprising outcomes. I love being able to represent older women in the fashion industry and have worked with some amazing people and brands including JDWilliams, F&F Clothing with Davina McCall and alongside my body confidence icon Ashley Graham for Swimsuits for All. My favourite shoots are always swimwear and lingerie and now I’m 50 I feel like I’m just getting started. Through Social Media, I have connected with and been inspired by so many fabulous older women that are really embracing the next chapter of their lives, finding new passions and purpose later in life; I knew I wanted to share their stories on my podcast and blog. Out of the Bubble was created to spread some positivity around midlife and share inspiration to others who may be feeling a bit lost as they hit their forties. I know from my own experience that stepping out of your comfort zone and trying new things in life can lead to all sorts of opportunities and bring a new lease of life to this next chapter. Subjects covered- How I started a new career in modelling aged 46 Stepping out of my comfort zone Body confidence Finding new confidence later in life Finding passion and purpose What inspired me to start the podcast Embracing grey hair Encouraging women to support one another and ditch the judgement You can also subscribe to the new Out of the Bubble podcast website to keep updated www.outofthebubblepodcast.com and find me on Instagram @rachelperu1 and Facebook @stepoutofthebubble Have you joined the Stepping out of the Bubble Facebook group yet? Ep.49, Out of the Bubble, Meet the women behind The Enterprise Collective, Caroline Smith, Louise Kemp and Bee Clayton.
I have a triple dose of inspiration for you this week and I had so much fun talking with the three women behind The Enterprise Collective, Caroline Smith, Louise Kemp and Bee Clayton.  I first attended one of the Enterprise Collective networking events in 2019 and although nervous about walking in to a room full of strangers and suffering with imposter syndrome I quickly relaxed and have made greta friends and collaborations through it. Not only is it a great way of getting your creative business known to more people, build possible connections for work and collaborations but it's that sense of ownership of what you are doing that sends a really strong message to me.  It's something that I have struggled with in the past, it's that imposter syndrome feeling. However there has definitely been a shift in my mind and I am now owning my model/podcaster/blogger titles and attending events like this definitely helps too.   Caroline, Louise and Bee are so often seen championing other women through their network so I though it was time to place the spotlight firmly back on them.  Subjects covered-  What is the Enterprise Collective?  Where the inspiration came from to start it?  How the three women work as a team  Adapting to change during lockdown  Women supporting women  Recognising our strengths?  Stepping out of your comfort zone  To find out please visit their website https://theenterprisecollective.co.uk/home/meet-the-team/  You can also follow them on social media - Instagram  @theenterprisecollective and Facebook The Enterprise Collective  You can also subscribe to the new Out of the Bubble podcast website to keep updated and find me on Instagram @rachelperu1and Facebook @stepoutofthebubble  I'll be back next week to share some more inspiration . Ep.47, Out of the Bubble. Are you struggling to embrace your grey hair? Find out what led Jayne Mayled, founder of White Hot Hair to champion silver haired women.
As someone who has battled grey hair since my teenager years and finally embraced my grey at 45 I'm always keen to champion fellow grey-haired women. Welcome back to the 3rd series of Out of the Bubble and I am delighted to be back interviewing some fabulous women and sharing their inspiring stories. Since starting Kyra 6 1/2 years ago it's grown to become an invaluable part of the York community support network for literally thousands of women from all works of life. Kyra offers secondary support which is often not available and can make the difference between someone recovering  successfully to those without who may relapse.
