Episode 48: Downton Abbey: A New Era and Local Hero with Simon Curtis
The family and staff of Downton Abbey are back on the big screen and this time their adventure was helmed by the one and only Simon Curtis. Simon joined us to talk about undertaking a new Downton tale as well as talk about 1983's Local Hero. Be forewarned, there are some big Downton spoilers contained within. Episode 47- Lenny Abrahamson on Frank and Conversations with Friends
When Mike and I started work on the Overdue Rentals podcast, we had a list of 10 films we wanted to kick off our show with. Lenny Abrahamson's 2014 film, Frank, was one of those 10. Now, here we are with the man himself discussing this highly underseen classic. After the success of his adaptation of Normal People for Hulu, Lenny is back with an adaptation of Sally Rooney's first book, Conversations with Friends which premieres on Hulu starting this Friday, May 15th. As much as it was a thrill to talk about the show with Lenny, we were beyond thrilled to have some time to chat up the man about Frank and revel in all its glory.

This just in! We have the brand new MST3K host Emily Marsh with us this week. Emily has jumped from the MST3K live crew to be one of three hosts for the new run of MST3K episodes that you can now watch on the Gizmoplex. Episode 45- Dual and The Art of Self-Defense with Riley Stearns
2022 has been a great year for films so far, and Riley Stearns the man behind 2019's The Art of Self-Defense is responsible for adding on to the already growing list of fantastic 2022 films with his newest effort, Dual. The film stars Karen Gillan as a woman who must fight a clone of herself to the death. It's a must see, as is The Art of Self-Defense if you haven't seen it yet. Episode 34- Sharlto Copley on Ted K and The A-Team
This week on Overdue Rentals, we decided to leverage the more serious nature of our guests tense new film, by talking about the much more fun natured adaptation he starred in; for a little bit of levity. As of course, we are joined by Sharlto Copley who is starring as the Unabomber Ted Kaczynski in the new film Ted K that releases February 18th, 2022. We also delve into his turn as Howling Mad Murdock in Joe Carnahan's big screen version of, The A-Team. Of course, District 9 and some other fun subjects crop up. What better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than listening to a conversation about some unhinged individual, right!?

Episode 33- Tony Todd talks about Night of the Living Dead (1990) and Stoker Hills
Tony Todd, the legend himself is with us to talk about his newest film, Stoker Hills, as well as the Tom Savini helmed remake of Night of the Living Dead. We also talk some football, cats, and vide games. It should be noted that this discussion took place right after the divisional round of playoffs, hence why we are talking about football games from a few weeks ago. There is also some very quick audio issues in the middle of Tony's discussion, but it clears up quickly.

We were privileged to have some time to talk with the legend himself, Tim Roth, about his new film Sundown as well as the Overdue Rental choice for the week, Rob Roy. In reality, if we could have had hours to talk with Mr. Roth, we'd probably still only have time to cover two of the numerous films we'd truly love to cover with him. But for now, join us as we learn what went behind creating the character of Neil for Sundown, the fears Tim had he might be fired from what became a highly nominated and awarded role in Rob Roy, as well as the special Quentin Tarantino text chain he's part of.

Even though the strike has been averted, legendary cinematographer Paul Cameron's insights on the business are fascinating and still important. Part 2 of our Lady of the Manor coverage is here. Brothers, Co-writers, and Co-directors Christian and Justin Long are here and we have a lot to talk about. There was a lot of films that inspired the brothers in creating their debut feature length comedy, but one film stands above them all, the 1991 Bill Murray/Richard Dreyfuss comedy, What About Bob? This was one lovely conversation that could have went on for hours and hours.

This week we were lucky enough to have the amazing Melanie Lynskey in the store to talk about her new film, Lady of the Manor and the 2011 Tom McCarthy written and directed, Win Win. Since we had Melanie on hand, we of course couldn't help but ask a few questions about Heavenly Creatures, but since we already have a full episode about the film...we kept it short.  We unfortunately had a a few tech issues at the start of the interview, but it all worked out in the end.

This week we are joined by TCM's Noir Alley host, Eddie Muller whose 1998 book Dark City: The Lost World of Film Noir just received a new expanded re-issue. Among the general topic of film noir, we are also focusing on the classic noir thriller, Silent Partner which stars Elliot Gould and Christopher Plummer. The Silent Partner is a true masterpiece that many people still have not discovered. Make sure you catch it and join us as we discuss the film and its legacy.

This week, we are joined by Jon Amiel; the director of Matthew's favorite film of all time...The Singing Detective (1986). This utter masterpiece penned by the brilliant Dennis Potter, only aired in the US, once! Jon took some time to discuss with us his relationship to the project and Dennis Potter, all the ins-and-outs of creating such a sprawling work of art, and all those special little details that went into the casting and production of a film that too many people still need to see.  Note: When you ultimately go to look up information on this film, make sure you are not looking at the 2003 re-make starring Robert Downey Jr. Make sure you are looking at the film from 1986, starring Michael Gambon.
