OVS Astronomy 2022 - Neptune, the densest giant planet! by AA

Similar to its big friend Uranus, a thick soup of water, ammonia and methane makes up this planet's composition. Some other facts that fall into the composition of Neptune is that Neptune has a solid center. It's atmosphere is made of hydrogen, helium and methane. This methane gives methane the blue color that is has, similar to Uranus.

OVS Astronomy 2022 - Uranus, the frigid Jobian planet! by CF

Ura, ura, ura, Uranus! Uranus is the seventh planet away from the Sun, and the least massive of the four Jovian planets. It was discovered on March 13, in 1781 by a man named William Hershel. There are actually rings surrounding Uranus, but they aren't visible.

OVS Astronomy 2022 - Venus, Earth's Twin! by DH

Our planetary neighbor is one of the terrestrial or rocky planets, which are planets made of denser material like iron. Venus is known as Earth's twin due to its similar size and density. They are fraternal twins, though, so don't think we could live there.

OVS Astronomy 2022 - Mars, made from Iron Oxide! by LF

Mars is covered in rock, dirt and dust made from iron oxide, which is why it appears red. It also has thick ice sheets, which gives signs that at one point along its 4.5 billion years in the solar system there was water on this planet.

OVS Astronomy - Saturn, the Planetary Gem! by AO and CA

With its gold color and it’s stunning rings Saturn is quite a planetary gem. Saturn is the 2nd largest planet out of the eight and it is about 10 times as wide as earth. Despite its size Saturn is the lightest planet. It is mostly made up of hydrogen and helium and because of its gaseous composition Saturn is the only planet that’s less dense than water.

OVS Astronomy - Mars, Earth's Back-Up Plan! by JC and TC

Mars is a terrestrial planet, and its atmosphere is made mainly of carbon dioxide. Although Mars only has 15% of the Earth’s volume and 10% of its mass, Mars has almost as much dry land as Earth, meaning that it has almost as much liveable space as our blue planet.

OVS Astronomy - Saturn, A Really Awesome Planet! by ME

What is the second largest planet in our solar system, pretty much only made out of gas, and could float on water if there was a ocean big enough for that? Exactly, Saturn.
