Journey Through Genocide: Unveiling Denial, Fascination, and Recognition- Part 1
Stefan Ihrig, a Professor of History at the University of Haifa and the director of the Haifa Center for German and European Studies in Israel, has dedicated his career to unfolding the complex tapestry of European and Middle Eastern history. While our discussion might not (seemingly) be of direct interest to Hellenism, we explore what shaped the landscape and our understanding of the late Ottoman Empire and the early days of the Republic of Turkey: the threads that wove through the lives of Greeks during those times. The often overlooked German support to the Ottoman Empire, later to Atatürk, emerges as a significant external factor that also influenced the fate of Greeks in that turbulent period.
Through Professor Stefan Ihrig’s research and books, including “Atatürk in the Nazi Imagination”, we explore genocides of that era and geography, the denial of genocides, historical lessons of illiberal democratic leaders within deficient leadership environments applicable also today. The fascination with totalitarian historical figures adds another layer to the intricate fabric of a nation's founding principles.
Stay tuned for the remaining part of our discussion with Professor Ihrig, focusing on the Pontic Greek genocide, to be released in 2024. Join us as we shine a light on these lesser explored aspects of history, delving deeper into the narratives that often escape mainstream attention.

- the amalgamation of innovative policies and advanced scientific and engineering technologies funded through decades of research and development schemes.
Interdisciplinary research vs Synthesis research
Research and future challenges in the early 20th century shaped the engineering disciplines as we know them.
Today, we are at the crossroads of changing the economy because of our future challenges and the emerging technologies developed or at the stage of conception.
The revamped sciences and engineering fields are creating new research areas that unofficially merge to form synthesis research. This could lead to reshuffling the academic disciplines and professions, making them new, to create seemingly multidisciplinary fields but in truth produce synthesis research.

Leap to Progress: Exploring the Link Between Innovation, Education, and Conflict
In this podcast, technology, research and development, innovation, and entrepreneurship are the focus of talks and discussions, all elements of today’s world that can provide leaps to humanity.
Yet, we see that progress is not evenly happening across the globe. We see many poor regions and countries where people do not have access to education, and conflicts often take place in many of them.
Conflicts prohibit social progress and without social coherence, technological, educational and political progress is at stake. So, one might ask:
• does poverty give birth to conflict and lack of education, or
• is conflict responsible for poverty and a non-existing educational system or
• does poor education give rise to poverty and create conflict?

Transforming mentoring in business accelerators
Most doctorates and researchers can not secure an academic position, or they might find a career in the industry out of their scope or professional vision.
Start-ups can become a creative space for science, engineering and technology researchers and an opportunity to develop their careers.
Researchers, businesses and investors who get involved in business accelerators, also those creating those programmes, might ask themselves:
- What makes a business accelerator programme successful for supporting early-stage entrepreneurs becoming stable in the market?
- Should actors, stakeholders and accelerator programme developers pay more attention to business development, infrastructure, network (including mentors), or financial support?
- How could the transformation of mentoring bind all aspects of business accelerators together and deliver their purposes and those of the businesses to be "accelerated"?
Here is my viewpoint on transforming mentoring in business accelerators as key to the programmes' success for all.

- where we are at now if we implement every possible carbon dioxide removal strategy and technology.
Stay tuned for next Sunday's episode examining an overlooked and least expected approach for achieving equity, health, prosperity and security.
Discoveries and R&D in the 2020s
Key areas & advancements from #agriculture & #transportation to cutting-edge technologies in #energy, #aerospace & beyond are outlined in this episode. We have also seen in past episodes how these developments are shaping our future and could potentially make our world a better, more sustainable and resilient place. You can always re-listen or listen to those episodes mentioned, or see the discoveries and #R&D in the 2020s from a different perspective and what to expect next: in this podcast and the real world.
Are zero emissions, zero?
In this episode we go shortly through some questions that really address the big question; that of “Are zero emissions, zero?”:
- Are net zero and carbon neutral the same?
- What are the characteristics of an effective net zero emissions target?
- Why is reducing real emissions preferable to achieving net zero emissions?
- What steps can we take to reduce our carbon emissions?
- Is implementing a net zero emissions target an effective approach towards addressing climate change?
- Is there a global effort to achieve net-zero emissions?
- How can we guarantee that commitments are translated into action?
- Can we expect to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 as planned?
Top Learn Moments
Mimicking tissues and organs and fish dynamics, the forces of nature with simplicity and without simplification, maximising current technologies for more affordable offshore wind farms where population density is high and there is a shortage of available land, producing plant-based biofuels non-chemically are some of the top learning moments at the Global Greek Influence podcast.
Researchers may speak with modesty, presenting the advantages and disadvantages of their work. This does not mean that their solutions are not beneficial; they are not businessmen or marketers.
They produce patents that do not reach us because some industries might not want to invest in new processes and products as they prefer incremental improvements to their existing products and not real innovation.
What researchers need is an equitable approach by funding bodies, technologies businesses andindustries. That is the definition of symbiosis, between humans and nature, between the present and future.

The chemical engineering energy and environment
Professor Christos Maravelias, the Anderson Family Professor in Energy and the Environment of Chemical and Biological Engineering and Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering and the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment, Chair of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Princeton University (US) speaks to the Global Geek Influence podcast about:
- transitioning toward a #sustainable industry and products in the next decade,
- making more objective and informed decisions in producing biofuels,
- machine learning transforming the chemicalindustry and #AI the chemical engineering education and research,
- advantageous methods to store concentrating solar power,
- what we know about integrating direct air #carbon capture,
- correlating membrane materials with the process design for sustainable operations.
Would Christos choose the same PhD field and an academic career if he were now 20 years old?

Birthdays of humans, technologies, ideas and politics
What do birthdays have to do with technology?
Anyone and anything born: a human, a technology, an idea, reminds us of the beginning of a life cycle.
- What is the future of AI in scientific research (ChatGPT- Large Language models), and why should it matter to all?
- Is there a future for engineering, science and technology researchers' innovation in politics?
- Why, when innovation is born, should be co-developed and implemented with the active participation of engineering, science and technology researchers in politics?
The day a human, a technology, or a political action is born signifies a great promise. But it is all of us who determine their present and future.

The case of culture in safety
- Why is the socio-cultural safety mentality important to avoid needless accidents when we have available technologies?
- Why is the design of safety procedures important, even if we employ the latest cutting-edge technologies available?
- Why are socio-cultural safety mentality and the design, implementation and practice of safety procedures communicating vessels?
- The three Es: Engineering, Enforcement and Education.
