002 - Indian Wells Finals

002 - Indian Wells Finals

Welcome to PTC Podcast #2 for Saturday March 16th.

What an exciting week in Indian Wells, CA as the tournament that started last week on March 4th is set to wrap up with the Mens Semi-Finals matches today and tonight, and mens and Ladies finals tomorrow.

Yesterdays quarter finals results saw Canadian Bianca Andreescu come out on top over #6 seed Elaina Svitonlina of Ukraine.  Andreescu came out swinging hard and drove her opponent into submission in set #1. Not one to wilt under pressure, Svitolina camp back with some incredible defence in sets #2 and 3, requiring the Canadian to stay on top of her Backhand winner gamer.  Let's take a few minutes and hear how set #3 finished up.

This is a great one to replay if you subscribe to WTA streaming at wtatv.com

On Thursday lucky #13 seed, Milos Raonic had a much more straight forward, straight sets quarter final against Kecmanovic.  Tune into stream both matches with tennistv.com.

Today we will be treated to two mens matches, beginning with Milos and Domenic Thiem at 2pm, then followed by Fedrer vs. Nadal #39 around 3:30pm (or later)Sundays Finals will feature Canadian Andreescu and German Grand slam champion Angeliqu Kerber.  The Mens finals will be determined by the semi finals matches today.

I hope you get a chance to watch some great matches this weekend, or better yet, get out on court and make some of your own.

This podcast may be on hiatus next week as Hudson and I will be travelling to Toronto to participate in the TDC U9 tournament at the Aviva Centre.  It's a team tennis competition with a selected team from GSM, so send us your best wishes and hopes for success.

I've been stringing racquets today anticipating the snow's departure, so until then, stay active and get ready to Challenge Mediocrity with me as soon as the 2019 outdoor season is able to kick off.

See you on the courts.

Things are warming up outside, though not quite quickly enough to suit all of the avid tennis fans in Paris!

You may just feel like staying tuned to Stadium 1 Court all day to keep an eye on the likes of Halep, Federer, Serena Williams and Rafa Nadal, but if you look to stadiums 3 and 4, you should be treated to a close up look of two of Canada hottest up-and-coming young talents on the ATP and WTA tours.

Yesterday saw some great performances from current top Canadian, Milos Raonic, who bested Sam Querry in two sets. It’s nice to see the big serving Canadian able to hold his own against another bug hitter on home soil and the California desert temperatures.

And speaking of hot young talents, in a continuation to his hot start this season, Felix Auger-Aliassime rolled over the number 9 seed, future great, Stephanos Tsitsipas (check out his YouTube channel, it’s a winner!). In two fierce sets, Felix shows his dominance from the backhand wing, pushing a great player like Tsitsipas around to the tune of two breaks in the final set 6-2. (Sorry Chris!)

A big thanks to all our early birds who have already got their registrations in for 2019 season memberships. I’m expecting some warmer weather just around the corner and am anticipating an amazing season for all of us to enjoy. Just a reminder that I’ll be the first to get nets up when the weather is feeling cooperative. No need to ask me when, until all the snow has departed at least :)

If you are still waiting to get your 2019 membership and have forgotten the early bird code, let me know as we will be keeping the early bird pricing in effect ONLY through March 15th, so time is running out!

I'm always up for a match at the bubble at GSM Tennis in Cambridge, so if you want to get out and enjoy this great winter season tennis, and need a partner, just send me an email: tom@theparisclub.ca
