What is a Hammam? A hammam or commonly known as a Turkish bath is a type of steam bath or a place of public bathing associated with the Islamic world. Now a hammam will differ from country to country but the end result is the same.
We have been to several hammams around the world and in this episode of the Passports and Coffee Podcast, we are going to share our experience with you! We have been to hammams in Turkey, Morocco and Egypt. Each hammam came with it's our unique experience. Medical Mission to the Philippines
If you have been a listener of the Passports and Coffee Podcast for a while then you know our very own co-host Kayla is a Registered Nurse. For years she has wanted to partake in a medical mission and she finally had the opportunity. In January, Kayla traveled to the Philippines for a medical missions and today she is sharing her experience!
We know that not everyone who listens to the podcast is in the medical field and you may never have the opportunity to join a medical mission but our hope is to open you eyes to a very different part of the countries that we travel to. We hope that this episode will have you looking beyond the beautiful landscape and consider giving back to a lesser fortunate community that you travel to.

Destination Spotlight: Egypt
Egypt is one of those countries that is a dream bucket list destination for many. In fact it was a major bucket list trip for the co-hosts of the Passports and Coffee Podcast. But this past October, we were able to tick this destination off our list. We were lucky enough to host our first every group trip to Egypt. Nine of our listeners joined us for an epic bucket list trip around Egypt.

Summer in the Midwest is Best
We may be biased but we think summer in the Midwest is best. As you may know, the co-hosts of the Passports and Coffee Podcast are born and raised in the Midwest. Cheraya is from Minnesota and Kayla is from Michigan. Growing up, we never fully appreciated the beauty that is our home states and now we want to share our little slice of heaven with you!

Adult Gap Year with Megan Wright
What do you think of when you hear the term gap year? I bet you think of a person in their early twenties who takes a year off after high school or college to travel. Are we right? But what if we told you that a gap year can be for any one of any age and can be taken at any point in you life?
This episode of the Passports and Coffee Podcast we welcome our friend Megan Wright, also known as @travelwrighter on IG and TikTok. Megan took a solo gap year at the age of 31 after quitting her job and she is encouraging fellow millennials to do the same. We are tired of hearing that being in you 30s is too old. You are not too old to take a year off and travel the world.
Tune in to hear what opportunity Megan had to take a year off to travel the world. Megan and Cheraya have very similar stories but also spent their year traveling in very different ways as well. We tried Van Life in Utah
Van life gained popularity over the last few years and it is something that we have always wanted to do. So when travel plans to Guatemala fell through we decided to rent a camper van with Indie Campers and road trip through Utah! So we decided to try out van life for a week and we loved it! It's not something we could do full time but we fell in love with the freedom that van life offers.
This week on the Passports and Coffee Podcast we are talking about our full van life experience. From our honest review of Indie Campers to emptying the toilet, we talk about what it is like to rent a camper van. In addition to all of the positives and negatives of van life and whether or not we would do it again, we also share our full Utah road trip itinerary. Our Utah road trip made stops as some of Utah's most popular tourists sights such as Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park but also so hidden gems such as the Spiral Jetty and Mystic Hot Springs.

Travel Diaries: We Almost Died on the Salkantay
Have you ever agreed to do something but immediately regretted the decision? That's what happened to us when we were in Peru. Our sole purpose for visiting Peru was to trek the Salkantay to Machu Picchu because we wanted to stay in these cool dome huts. But we quickly realized how unprepared we were for this trek. Kayla had food poisoning and Cheraya got sick from the altitude. But it wasn't until we began our ascent up the mountain that we realized this was the biggest mistake of our lives. This is the story on how we almost died on the Salkantay.

All-inclusive resorts, you either love them or hate them. For those who are unfamiliar, an all-inclusive resort is one where the vast majority of your expenses are included in the price of your vacation. Some of the included expenses include your accommodation, food and drink (including alcohol), some activities, and so much more. Having a vacation where everything is included sounds amazing right? Wrong. In this episode, we are talking about all of the pros and cons of all-inclusive resorts.
As travelers we see the appeal of an all-inclusive resort for those who are short on PTO. In fact, we have traveled to them before but it isn't always the best option and we explain why. Growing up we all have dreams and aspirations. For Haylie Robinson, she grew up watching Samantha Brown on the Travel Channel wondering why her home town was never represented. This former fair queen took her love for small town America and festivals and combined it with her background in media production to make her dreams a reality. Haylie is an Executive Producer and Host of the travel series Finding Festivals, now broadcasting on PBS affiliate WGTE.

Making a Difference While Traveling with The Ivy Founder Steve Weigel
We all love to travel but have you ever thought about traveling to leave a lasting impact on the place that you are visiting? In today's episode we have a conversation with the founder of IVY, Steve Weigel. IVY was founded in 2014 and originally sold long boards and quickly evolved into an adventure travel brand. IVY connects like minded people through adventures but they also believe in leaving long lasting impact on communities that we travel to through humanitarian efforts. We talk about how Steve works with local organizations and non-profits around the world for IVY's Make a Difference (M.A.D.) trips. In addition to humanitarian M.A.D. trips, IVY also has adventure trips. One of their most popular trips is their sailing trip through the Caribbean.

Have you ever been in an unsafe situation while either traveling solo or with friends? Safety is one of the most important factors when traveling. In today's episode we are accompanied by our friends and podcast guests Staci and Amy. We will be talking about our time in Memphis, TN where we placed ourselves in a possible dangerous situation. It is because we didn't listen to our guts, intuition or speak up on how we were all feeling that got us into this hazardous situation. We hope that this rare and open travel conversation will help you realize that danger is a real possibility while traveling. The moral of this story is to always listen to your gut feelings and to never put yourself in harms way.
