Beaver Bites, Episode 15: "There Be CPC Leadership Drama, Darlings!"

Beaver Bites, Episode 15: "There Be CPC Leadership Drama, Darlings!"

Recording Date: March 31, 2022

In this bite we have an amuse-geule of multiple flavours:

Last week we spoke about what the Supply and Confidence agreement is and isn't, and how it landed; this week, we chat about what's actually in it.

We here at The Eager Beaver always say it's not a CPC Leadership race until something's wrong with vote or someone claims a crime was committed, and sure enough, this morning, Erin O'Toole's former communications person rang the alarm.

And then we have a mixed bag of goodies including our friends Randy Hiller, Doug Ford, François Legault, and Jason Kenney.

Minimal script, flying without a net.

Because we believe that Democracy Is Something You Do...

1) If you want to let a certain nation know you're not on their side, feel free to e-mail a package of sunflower seeds to:

ATTN: Ambassador Alexander Darchiev
Embassy of (you know where)

2) If good care and treatment of animals is a cause dear to your heart, Veterinarians Without Borders Canada is working with Ukraine animal shelters to get them emergency food, water, and the basics for survival. If you can help, this link [
https://www.vetswithoutborders.ca/] will direct you to their donation page.

Finally, on a lighter note, we want to know: What are you looking forward to most this spring?

You can do that via our show’s Facebook blog page on via Twitter @TrueEager.

Of course, retweets, shares, gentle corrections, constructive criticism, compliments, tips, requests and positive reviews (if you think we deserve some stars, please rate us) are always welcome.

Until then, be kind to, and gentle with, yourselves,

Your Eager Beaver

The Eager Beaver Podcast Interview Project Episode 13: John Stopford

The Eager Beaver Podcast Interview Project Episode 13: John Stopford

(Recording date: March 25, 2022)

The Eager Beaver Pod asks its guests if they're willing to provide an extended interview, so that we may better get to know them/what makes them tick.

Today, we have something out of the ordinary, for us. Our first interview with one of our Kits.

Kit John came to us with a compelling story about a disquieting situation at the Malcom Place retirement residence in Kincardine, ON and asked for our help to bring profile to it, for he is quite concerned that this could be happening in various small towns in Ontario, and Canada.

This is a very special Interview episode and one of most important we've done.

Please listen and once again, Kits, because 'Democracy Is Something You Do' spread the word far and wide.

Be kind to, and gentle with, yourself,

Your Eager Beaver

Beaver Bites, Episode 14: "The Game Has Changed"

Today, PM Trudeau and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh launched a grenade into the Conservative Party of Canada's bunker and it has totally upended that party's leadership race.

And the Eager Beaver and Mr. Grizzly are totally here for it.

It's political Christmas in Canada, and we're getting the presents.

And since " 'Tis the Season for Schadenfreude. Fa-la-la-la-la. La-la. La-la. ", we have prezzies for you too Kits, in the form of this Beaver Bites.

(Recording Dates: March 6 & 7, 2022)

In this episode:

Of course we’ll finish it off with our blog page, Twitter feed, and podcast listener feedback.

And once again, since it’s been a veritable firehose of news for the past six weeks or so that twist on the cool news, I've been promising is yet again, a promise delayed.

In this episode:

We have once again on the order paper the two biggest topics to retain the nation's attention: COVID and CONVOY

That's about it.

Because we believe that “Democracy Is Something You Do”, this week we have two suggestions for you.

Agitators of the FreeDumb convoy stole food out of the mouths of the homeless, so please consider making a donation to The Shepherds of Good Hope in Ottawa, your local shelter, or to a food bank.

Agitators of the FreeDumb convoy also defaced the statue of Terry Fox and disrespected the national Cenotaph. A donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or your local Legion would also be welcome at this time.

Finally, on a lighter note, we want to know: What is your favourite hibernation activity?

You can do that via our show’s Facebook blog page on via Twitter @TrueEager.

Of course, retweets, shares, gentle corrections, constructive criticism, compliments, tips, requests and positive reviews (if you think we deserve some stars, please rate us) are always welcome.

(Recording Dates: February 7 & 10, 2022)

Heeeey, Kits!

In this very special episode of the podcast, we combine a bit of our regular format with our extended interview format, and it's all about our looooooooong predicted last days of Aaron... I mean, Eric... Umm, I mean, Erin! (Yes, it's) Erin... O'Toole as Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada.

We kick it off with a segment taking a look at how it all ended for him and, we discuss where the party may be going now that a leadership race will soon be declared.

And, we get to follow it up with the honour and privilege of our first ever return guest! We welcome back, Bert Chen, who, when we last chatted, was a National Council Member for Ontario of the Conservative Party of Canada.

Mr. Chen was thrust into the spotlight when he was first to publicly call for -- and circulate a petition in favour of -- an early review of Erin O'Toole's leadership.

We'll discuss what his life has been like since having been suspended from the Council following his actions. And, we'll get his take on the upcoming CPC leadership Race.

Please visit our show’s Facebook blog page or chat to us via Twitter @TrueEager.

Of course, retweets, shares, gentle corrections, constructive criticism, compliments, tips, requests and positive reviews (if you think we deserve some stars, please rate us) are always welcome.

We’ll take a look at how the COVID situation has evolved nationally since we've last chatted and, we'll touch upon key developments in the utter shitshow that has befallen our peace, order, and good government-loving country and nation's capital.

In this episode:

We’ll take a look at how the COVID situation has evolved nationally since we've last chatted.

Then we’ll have two discussions, the first about both the COVID and electoral fates of the Premiers of Canada‘s two most populous provinces,.

The second will be about the national uninvited guest who is demanding our attention while stating it has no intention of leaving.

The True North Eager Beaver -- Episode 17: We Should Not Be Here

The True North Eager Beaver -- Episode 17: We Should Not Be Here

(Recording Dates: January 11, 12, & 15, 2021)

Heeeey, Kits!

We're back from the Holiday break with a jam-packed episode for you.

The Omicron surge has hit hard, and society is facing a major stress test, so we've for a you an overview of the landscape with updates on testing, hospitalization and death rates, back to school, congregate living settings, treatments, and government supports.

And, because things are a bit heavy, we'll lighten it up with our readers/listeners' feedback and the cool news.

Because we believe that “Democracy Is Something You Do”, this week we have two suggestions for you:

The post-Holiday season is typically difficult for Food Banks, so if you have the ability, this is a great time to make a donation. In addition to beans, rice, and canned goods, think of atypical things to include such as flour, brown sugar, powdered milk, diapers, infant formula, margarine, cooking oils, spices, sometimes even kitchen utensils such as can openers and spatulas come in quite handy.

Also, given the COVID crunch, organizations such as The Red Cross and Hema-Québec’s blood and platelet banks could very well be low, so if you’ve got the time and inclination, consider making some time to make a donation.

Finally, we want to know: What is your favourite hibernation activity?

You can do that via our show’s Facebook blog page on via Twitter @TrueEager.

Of course, retweets, shares, gentle corrections, constructive criticism, compliments, tips, requests and positive reviews (if you think we deserve some stars, please rate us) are always welcome.

Until then, be kind to, and gentle with, yourselves,

Presenting: The Eager Beaver Podcast Interview Project Episode 11: The Reverend Michael Coren

Presenting: The Eager Beaver Podcast Interview Project Episode 11: The Reverend Michael Coren

(Recording date: December 23, 2021)

The Eager Beaver Pod asks its guests if they're willing to provide an extended interview, so that we may better get to know them/what makes them tick.

When they agree, we package it together and present to you as part of this series.

This week's guest is a well-known journalist and opinion leader who, for decades, via a combination of books, television vehicles, and regular columns in both mainstream and specialty publications -- not to mention decisions he made for himself while walking his own winding Spiritual path -- has been the source (sometimes despite himself) of both great controversy and deep introspection as to the role the Church plays in society.

In the spirit of the Season, in this Interview, the Reverend Michael Coren discusses his latest book, The Rebel Christ; the journey of change and the price one pays (or the cost extracted) when change following a life epiphany occurs; the healing power of forgiveness, and of course; as he's perfectly willing to take a stand, there's a little politics sprinkled in.

Mr. Grizzly and I hope this one makes your Holiday a touch brighter.

A merriest of Christmases to you and all of yours, if you are celebrating (or sharing in the joy of others), and if you are not, wishing many blessing for you and those you hold dear.

Be kind to, and gentle with, yourself,
Your Eager Beaver

The True North Eager Beaver -- Episode 16: Double Stuffed and Boosted with Extra Juice!

The True North Eager Beaver -- Episode 16: Double Stuffed and Boosted with Extra Juice!

(Recording Date: December 19, 2021)

After two weeks away, and the Parliamentary Christmas break coming, there's LOTS to share.

We start with a Coast to Coast to Coast COVID Update, with the latest research and policy news about the Omicron wave. You won't want to miss this part to be well informed.

Then we'll touch upon a real world application of Bill 21 in the province of Québec and the shift in federal leaders' positions on it, from before recent events to after, now that consequences are no longer hypothetical.

That will be followed by a review of some Parliamentary Housekeeping: bills introduced and passed, the fall economic statement, and the issuance of Ministers' mandate letters.

And, we'll finish it all up with the star atop our tree, our readers/listeners' feedback.

Also, because we believe that “Democracy Is Something You Do”, this week we invite our Kits to do the right neighbourly thing, and donate to the Canadian Red Cross 2021 British Columbia Floods & Extreme Weather Appeal between now and December 26th. For every dollar you donate, $3 will go to the Red Cross, thanks to matching by the Government of Canada and British Columbia.

Finally, we want to know: What do you wish most for the world, and for yourself, this Christmas/Holiday season?

You can do that via our show’s Facebook blog page on via Twitter @TrueEager.

As always retweets, shares, gentle corrections, constructive criticism, compliments, tips, requests and positive reviews (if you think we deserve some stars, please rate us) are always welcome.

Until then, be kind to, and gentle with, yourselves,

The True North Eager Beaver -- Episode 15: "Mama Said: 'Mop Up Your Own Mess' " (Recording Dates: December 6 & 7, 2021)

So much content, this episode may be double-stuffed!

This week we look at various efforts at mopping up political messes along the way.

We start with a Coast to Coast to Coast COVID Update, as both Delta rises again and news about Omicron comes in fast and furious.

Then we'll touch upon a fresh start at the Green Party, muse about the real reason for fast Omicron-provoked border measures; give you backstory behind the fast tracking through the House of Commons of the bill to ban conversion therapy; take a critical look at Fiasco Tofino; and report of headway on the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal decision in favour of Indigenous children.

We'll then dedicate some time to the Speech from the Throne.

Of course, we'll have our listener/reader feedback and appreciation, and some cool news!

The True North Eager Beaver -- Episode 12: "Beyond Our Borders" (ft. Foreign Correspondent, Keith Boag)

(Recording Dates: November 4 & 6, 2021)

On today’s episode…

As an election is prime time for navel gazing, now that it is over, we thought that we’d dedicate an episode looking beyond our borders to see what is happening in global affairs as they pertain to Canada, its place in the world, and its leadership on the global stage.

We have for you the return of our Coast to Coast to Coast COVID Round Up, a quick discussion about the Conservatives’ repeated attempts to claim PM Justin Trudeau’s leadership is making our standing on the international stage drop, and a very special interview with one of Canada’s most distinguished and reputable foreign correspondents; a journalist who would definitely already be in the Canadian Journalism Hall of Fame, if we had such a thing.

Also, because we believe that “Democracy Is Something You Do”, we invite our Kits to write in to the show to let us know how you plan to mark Remembrance Day.

You can do that via our show’s Facebook blog page on via Twitter @TrueEager.

After "The Eager Beaver and Mr. Grizzly discuss the composition of the first Cabinet of the current government's third term to see how it compares with our pre-announcement analysis.",

We also discuss what this Cabinet signals in terms of how activist this version of the Trudeau Government wants to be, preparing party succession, and whether the Prime Minister may be preparing his legacy. This is the eleventh... and final... installment of this format for the elections, however, we both enjoyed it so much, we just may keep Beaver Bites for informal chats during the week. Also, because we believe that “Democracy Is Something You Do”, we invite our Kits to write in to the show to share with us what is the first area of priority for which you wish to see legislation... and why. You can do that via our show’s Facebook blog page on via Twitter @TrueEager. And if you like our show, please spread/share our episodes. Recording Dates: October 8 & 23

The Eager Beaver and Mr. Grizzly discuss where the parties stand post-election; the good, bad, and ugly of their election campaign strategies, and; where they may go from here..

This is the tenth installment of our new format for the elections, in which we try to bring you more frequent, much less scripted, but potentially shorter episodes we call “Beaver Bites”, so that we may bring you Election 44 coverage with fewer delays.

Also, because we believe that “Democracy Is Something You Do”, we invite our Kits to write in to the show to share with us what the election was like for you.

The True North Eager Beaver – Beaver Bites, Episode 9: "One Last Bite"

The True North Eager Beaver – Beaver Bites, Episode 9: "One Last Bite"

Recording Date: October 8

The Eager Beaver and Mr. Grizzly discuss interesting/trivia tidbits about the election results and about the Eager Beaver's first experience working at a polling place on election day.

Also, in this episode, we have a snippet of our extended interview with Conservative Party of Council Member Bert Chen, who was the first to publicly call for an expedited review of Erin O'Toole's leadership post-election.

Since our interview, Mr. Chen has been suspended/silenced for 60 days while a Committee "reviews" his behaviour.

This is the ninth installment of our new format for the elections, in which we try to bring you more frequent, much less scripted, but potentially shorter episodes -- yeah... that didn't quite work out... we're loquacious it seems... LOL -- we call “Beaver Bites”, so that we may bring you Election 44 coverage with fewer delays.

Also, because we believe that “Democracy Is Something You Do”, we invite our Kits to write in to the show to share with us what the election was like for you.

The True North Eager Beaver Podcast Interview Project -- Episode 9: Conservative Party of Canada National Council Member for Ontario, Bert Chen

Recording date: October 9, 2021

The Eager Beaver Pod asks its guests if they're willing to provide an extended interview, so that we may better get to know them/what makes them tick.

When they agree, we package it together and present to you as part of this series.

This week's guest made headlines by being among the first to call for a post-electoral review of Conservative Party of Canada Leader Erin O'Toole's leadership... and he put his money where his mouth is by openly circulating a petition to that effect.

In this interview, Bert Chen makes his case, we talk election strategy blunders, and because we here at the TNEB believe that "Democracy is something you do", we ask him about his path to becoming a National Council member.

Enjoy!

Be kind to, and gentle with, yourself,
Your Eager Beaver

PS: Since our interview was recorded, Mr. Chen was slapped with a 60-day suspension while a Committee "reviews" his actions.

The True North Eager Beaver – “Election 44 Beaver Bites, Episode 1: The First Week”

(recording date, August 21st)

Six days into Canada’s 44th election, your intrepid duo of the Eager Beaver and Mr Grizzly share their general impressions of the election’s opening days.

This is the first in our new format for the elections, in which we try to bring you more frequent, much less scripted, but potentially shorter episodes we’ll call “Beaver Bites”, so that we may bring you Election 44 coverage with fewer delays.

Now, turns out that because we waited a few days, this episode turned out to be more of a “mouthful” than just a bite – we had a LOT to say (lol) – but hopefully we’ll be a tad more disciplined for future shows.

Also, because we believe that “Democracy Is Something You Do”, we invite our Kits to write in to the show to let us know what your election plan is to plan your vote, and what you’ll do to get more than just yourself to the polls.

You can do that via our show’s Facebook blog page on via Twitter @TrueEager.

The True North Eager Beaver – Episode 11: “Election!”

(recording dates, August 14th and 17th)

On today’s episode…

It’s election time!!!

And for political junkies, this is that for which we live.

We have for you a pre-election Coast to Coast to Coast COVID Round Up, a discussion on how the table had been prepared for this election call (including a Hello/Goodbye to those who cleared the decks or joined teams in preparation), and a discussion about the state of the major parties prior to the call that also touches upon a few things that took place in the opening days.

This will be our final “regular format” show for the next while as we hope to bring you more frequent, but potentially shorter episodes we’ll call “Beaver Bites” to bring you Election 44 coverage with fewer delays.

Also, because we believe that “Democracy Is Something You Do”, we invite our Kits to write in to the show to let us know what your election plan is to plan your vote, and what you’ll do to get more than just yourself to the polls.

The True North Eager Beaver – Episode 5: “Are Conservative Governments Bad for our Health?”

In this special episode, the Eager Beaver and Mr Grizzly have an in-depth discussion about the the national mish mash of COVID-related lockdowns and how, Canadians, who are typically long to anger, have made quite well known their displeasure with their provincial governments’ handling of the pandemic.

The four biggest COVID outbreaks in the country are still in Manitoba, Alberta, Ontario, and Saskatchewan.

Not-coincidentally, those four provinces happen to be led by ideologically Conservative politicians, which begs the question: “Are Conservative governments bad for our health?”
