Outsider Insights: COMIC BOOKS

Outsider Insights: COMIC BOOKS

In an episode that we definitely thought was scheduled to publish on time than didn't, the boys start off discussing their shortcomings as to the challenge they issued each other in Episode 4. This expands into some talk about critical race theory, Watchmen, and Heavy by Kiese Laymon before we get into the actually comic book talk.

As the conversation gets going, Caleb talks about how comic books came into his life in middle school, how he grew up liking a different Flash than is on TV, and Aqua Lad.  When Sawyer brings up getting a detention because he once said "Superman: Red Son" in Spanish class, the boys have a version of the stereotypical "Heath Ledger WAS Joker" conversation. For the quiz, Caleb attempts to trick Sawyer with some obscure comic book titles in hopes that he can't guess what they're about.

Outsider Insights: MUSICALS!

Outsider Insights: MUSICALS!

Three days later than promised, the debut episode of OUTSIDER INSIGHTS is here! Today's episode is filled with brilliant insight on not  being in the mood to sing (yesterday), "since you the are", StarKid Musicals, how old the actors in Grease were when they filmed the movie, Caleb's squeaky desk chair, Broadway's reluctance to embrace streaming, ... AND MORE! Plus, Caleb attempts to tell Sawyer what musicals are about based only on their titles, leading to unexpected hilarity, with little to no accuracy.

Victor Dandridge, Jr.

Victor Dandridge, Jr. is the CEO & President of Vantage:Inhouse Productions, an independent entity that has published some of the most thought provoking and engaging properties to come out of the small press, including critically acclaimed comic book series The Samaritan, Origins Unknown  and The Trouble w/Love, as well as the novella series, 8 Mins.

In today's episode, he sits down with Sawyer to discuss moderating, the concept of "All Lives Matter" being used as a rebuttal to the #BlackLivesMatter movement, and the importance of having sincere interactions with people. Victor stuns Sawyer when he reveals the details of his own "origin story," and the two discuss his transition from being "The 8-Bit Guy" to his current moniker as "The Hardest Working Man in Comics."  After analyzing his own personality, Victor reveals his feelings on the tonal similarities between his publication, The Samaritan, and the Netflix series Marvel's Luke Cage.  As their hour together comes to an end, Victor shares his vision of where he will be in five years, what he wishes he had known when his journey first began, and what he thinks it will take to make artistic spaces more accessible for artists of color.
