EP 5: Closer look at Empathy: Is empathy a double-edged sword?

EP 5: Closer look at Empathy: Is empathy a double-edged sword?

In this episode of Growmance, Pavi shares different philosophies on empathy. For decades, a lot of emphasis has been put on certain aspects of intelligence such as logical reasoning, math skills, spatial skills, linguistic skills etc. Researchers were puzzled by the fact that while IQ could predict to a significant degree academic performance and, to some degree, professional and personal success, there was something missing in the equation because research showed that people with fabulous IQ scores were doing poorly in life by thinking, behaving and communicating in a way that hindered their chances to succeed. The missing part in the success equation is emotional intelligence, a concept made popular by the groundbreaking book by Daniel Goleman. In this episode, Pavi shares David Goleman’s framework for emotional intelligence and discusses how it can impact our career and personal lives. She also shares interesting concepts of empathy inspired by Paul Bloom, author of “Against Empathy” and Jamil Zaki, author of “War of Kindness: Building empathy in a fractured world” and whether it is actually doing more harm than good.

EP 4: Do soulmates exist? Looking within and managing expectations for a lasting relationship

EP 4: Do soulmates exist? Looking within and managing expectations for a lasting relationship

How to find your perfect partner? Is there such a thing as a soulmate? These are difficult yet important questions to ask and think about. In this episode of Growmance, Pavi dives deeper into realizing the meaning of love, knowing yourself and managing expectations.  We are busy searching for a partner who matches our expectations, that we have forgotten the meaning of true love and taking love beyond words to make it an enduring quality within.  We all want marriages or relationships to last for a lifetime and take a vow to commit ourself to the relationship, but not all marriages last for a lifetime, why is that so? The moment some expectations and requisites are not fulfilled, we are not able to live happily with the other person and things fall apart. Love is a sweet emotion that we experience within ourselves. Love is not about someone, it is someone you become. The expectations that most people are creating are such that there is no human being on the planet who could ever fulfill those expectations. In this episode, Pavi shares a short story, talks about her experience and discusses the teachings of Sadhguru, an Indian Monk and founder of Isha Foundation.

EP 3: Unlearning in the time of continuous learning

EP 3: Unlearning in the time of continuous learning

Should we fail to raise ourselves up to the occasion, it will be a collective failure of our human species to evolve. Sounds audacious? In this episode of Gromance, Pavi discusses the paradigm shifts in technology, leadership and socio-economic conditions in the 21st century and the importance of learning to unlearn. Unlearning is an art of letting go of old knowledge, skills, information or habits in order to make a room for new ideas and learning which might be better for success in life. We have to recognize and accept that the old techniques, knowledge and perception on which we have been relying on are no longer effective or relevant. This is most challenging because most of us are sublimely unaware of our mindset and perceptions. We just employ them and those remains on auto pilot mode. In addition to this, it can be difficult to accept that your existing model is getting out-dated. Many of you have built your reputations and careers on the mastery of these old models. Letting go may seems to you like starting over all again and losing the authority, status, or even your sense of self. Since the world is changing at the speed of thoughts, developing qualities like adaptability, feeling comfortable and accepting new challenges and changes around you, practicing  mindfulness and staying curious will help you achieve success.

EP 2: The Secret to unlocking your potential: Building healthy habits

EP 2: The Secret to unlocking your potential: Building healthy habits

"You cannot change your future, you can change your habits and surely your habits will change your future”, Dr. Abdul Kalam, Former President of India. In this episode of Growmance, Pavi shares the secret to unlocking your potential, how you can undergo paradigm shifts and change yourself fundamentally by upgrading your lifestyle. Creating habits makes reaching your goals easier and they last for the long haul. Habits are the compound interest of personal growth. The same way that money multiplies through compound interest, the effects of your habits multiply as you repeat them. They seem to make little difference on any given day and yet the impact they deliver over the months and years can be enormous. It is only when looking back two, five, or perhaps ten years later that the value of good habits and the cost of bad ones becomes strikingly apparent. In this episode, Pavi shares the 10 healthy habits that she has been focusing on and the 4 golden laws to build lasting habits that was discussed in the book Atomic Habits.
