The Foal of a Donkey

The Foal of a Donkey

Pastor Kris and Dr. Durbin answer a question submitted by one of our listeners: What do we know about the donkey upon which Jesus rode into Jerusalem? If it was a young, untrained animal, should we consider it a miracle that Jesus was not thrown off its back on Palm Sunday? Listen as they discuss the many passages of Scripture that inspired Jesus' actions that day and the texts that the Gospel writers referenced when telling the story of Jesus' triumphal entry. Email us at office@peacetree.church with questions you'd like our pastors and church staff to answer in future episodes.

Join us at our special Confirmation Sunday worship service, April 16 at 10:00am in the Sanctuary at 9315 E Shelby Dr, Collierville, TN 38017. We also have an upcoming concert and talent show to benefit Lakeshore Camp & Retreat Center taking place Saturday, April 22 at 5:30pm.

Do you have a question that you'd like to ask our pastors? Pastor Kris and Dr. Durbin love to talk about a variety of subjects ranging from TV shows and movies, to books and Memphis sports, and of course questions pertaining to the Bible and theology.

Message us at office@peacetree.church or reach out to us through our social media accounts.

The Centurion | Pastor Kris

Jesus, Remember Me | Dr. Durbin

Dr. Durbin preached this message on the Second Sunday of Lent (March 13, 2022). What do you see when you gaze upon paintings of the crucifixion? What do you feel when you try to place yourself in that scene? How can you make the Bandit's Prayer your own prayer this day?

ABOUT THIS MESSAGE

Dr. Durbin based his message on Luke 23:39-43 as our community celebrated the second Sunday of the Lenten season. He takes a closer look at the other victims who were crucified on either side of Jesus on Good Friday. "God forbid that we would be known for the worst thing we've ever done."

Standing By | Pastor Kris

Standing By | Pastor Kris

Pastor Kris shares a message with our faith community that was originally preached on the First Sunday of Lent (March 6, 2022). What does it mean to stand by Jesus in today's world? Are you waiting in the wings, standing at the ready, prepared to act when God calls you into service? You might be prepared or the responsibility might be thrust upon you!

ABOUT THIS MESSAGE

Pastor Kris based his message on Mark 15:15, 21-32 as our community celebrated the first Sunday of the Lenten season. He takes a closer look at the angry crowd and priests who mocked Jesus and taunted him while he hung upon the cross. Then, he focuses in on Simon of Cyrene, the out-of-towner who was forced into service and made to carry Jesus' cross.

Beware/Be Aware | Pastor Kris

Beware/Be Aware | Pastor Kris

Pastor Kris shares a message with our faith community that was originally preached on Ash Wednesday (March 2, 2022). How can you be more attentive and aware of what God is doing in you and around you this Lent? Which spiritual practices will you take on and which luxuries will you give up as you consider the sacrifice made by Jesus?

ABOUT THIS MESSAGE

Pastor Kris based his message on Matthew 6:1-6, 16-21 as our community began the observation Lent. The main challenge of his sermon is this: what are your motives when you practice your faith? Is it to be seen favorably by others, to check off a box, to earn brownie points with God? The treasure we gain from Lent isn't some material prize – it's the knowledge that we are growing closer to God by imitating Christ and by better understanding what his death on the Cross has accomplished for us all.

What Shall We Do Now? | Bishop Bill McAlilly

Bishop Bill McAlilly joined Peace Tree for a very special Consecration Sunday on February 27. Both he and Rev. Dr. Autura Eason-Williams (District Superintendent of the Metro District of the Tennessee-Wester Kentucky Conference) said a prayer of blessing over our congregation, and together with members of our congregation, they consecrated our newly renovated church building and sanctuary.

ABOUT THIS MESSAGE

Bishop McAlilly preaches a word based on Luke 4:16-21 for the occasion of Consecration Sunday. He also shares stories about his life as a preacher's kid, a church planter, his first conversations with Pastor Kris about the idea of Peace Tree, and he challenged the Peace Tree family to Love, Serve, and Make Disciples.

Best Song Ever with Kate Jones

Best Song Ever with Kate Jones

In an interview that was originally recorded in January 2021, Pastor Kris chats with worship leader, Kate Jones, about a wide range of topics. Listen as they discuss modern liturgy, campfire songs, beloved hymns, the movement of the Holy Spirit, and how God is the same God yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

ABOUT THIS MESSAGE

In 2021, we shifted our typical Best Song Ever sermon series to an online worship service. And instead of hearing stories from the singer or musician on Sunday morning, we instead held mid-week Zoom interviews with our musical guests. Be on the lookout for future episodes which will revisit those conversations from just over a year ago.

Building the House | Leigh Ann Leatherwood

Building the House | Leigh Ann Leatherwood

Why does the psalmist say, "Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain," and how does this phrase apply to the building of a church or worship center? Listen as Peace Tree's lay leader, Leigh Ann Leatherwood, shares the history behind the church building located at 9315 E Shelby Dr and what took place before the CrossRoads / Peace Tree church merger which became official on June 1, 2019.

ABOUT THIS MESSAGE

Leigh Ann goes into the history of CrossRoads as a UMC Church Plant and the fact that many of CrossRoads' original members came from St. James UMC which also started out as a church plant meeting for worship in a local elementary school in their earliest days. It's no surprise that this early church planting DNA was compatible with the church planting work that Peace Tree was living out in 2019.

What can the 1981 action-adventure film "Raiders of the Lost Ark" teach the Church? In what ways did the director and set designers draw inspiration from the Biblical accounts of the Ark of the Covenant? Listen in as Pastor Kris has a roundtable discussion with a few friends from Peace Tree covering these questions and more.

Two Are Better Than One

Two Are Better Than One

What does the preacher of Ecclesiastes have to say about partnerships? How can these lessons apply to our personal lives, our time at work or with family, and can a church organization also learn a thing or two about strategic partnerships with non-profits and other community organizations?

ABOUT THIS MESSAGE

Pastor Kris talks about the non-profit partners that Peace Tree has worked with over the past seven years such as the Big Heart Fund at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital. How might we continue to strengthen our relationship with existing partners, which non-profits should we start partnering with right now, and how can we open the doors to our newly renovated building even wider to community groups and service-oriented organizations?
