Kickstarting Quad Lock with Rob Ward

Join me as I talked to Rob Ward from Quad Lock about life starting a product that is now shipping around the world and firmly established within the cycling market. How did he grow this product from just a kickstarter campaign to now having a worldwide distribution within around five years.

Rob shares his passion for growing The Quad Lock business into all at different product expansions plus the challenges of being an entrepreneur in the space that constantly requires you to move forward and innovate to stay ahead.

How did they create this product? How did they think about it? and how did they make sure it would work? Plus Rob gives us his thoughts on pushing ourselves with an idea on how to move forward and gain momentum.

I’m now in Perth, having cycled from Sydney to Perth over the last few months, taking my time and enjoying the company of the welcoming people along the way. I’ll be sharing that story in the next episode of the podcast.

Hayden tackles Silk Road Mountain Race

Hayden tackles Silk Road Mountain Race

On my visit to Melbourne I met up with Hayden, Brand Manager at The Pedla, to talk about this huge bikepacking race he is about to compete in. He shares all his insights before going into a race that needs preparation well beyond a few fitness drills. This is absolute meticulous planning, from the Terra Nova custom sleeping bag to training for uphill laden bikepacking workouts!

Show Notes: https://pedalingpodcast.com/podcast/hayden-talks-bikepacking-silk-road-race

The Silk Road Mountain Race is a fixed route, unsupported, single-stage cycling race through the mountains of Kyrgyzstan. The clock does not stop and there are no prizes. It follows gravel, single and double track and old soviet roads that have long been forgotten and fallen into disrepair. There is very little tarmac. There is some walking, and at times there is great distances between resupply points..

Bicycle Junction: Bikes for Transport

Bicycle Junction: Bikes for Transport

Back when I was in Wellington, I had no intention of talking with Dan at Bicycle Junction, mostly because I didn't know much about him and the shop. After a few days cycling around, seeing the shop, their social media and the odd things going on, I was curious. I stepped in and had a coffee, watched everything go by and was fascinated by what Dan was doing, from the style of bikes, the coffee shop, the layout of the space and the odd-looking bikes parked outside.

Dan sat down to take me through his journey to where he is now, his motivation for doing what he loves and the true purpose to why he setup Bicycle Junction. This show was setup around this idea of exploring the way the cycling industry is shifting and changing and Dan's story is a key part of that change that is focused, niche and offers something different.

Kennett Brothers - NZ's Cycling Pioneers

Kennett Brothers - NZ's Cycling Pioneers

Passing through Wellington, New Zealand, I stopped by to meet-up and talk with the Kennett Brothers. You've probably heard of them if you'd done a little cycling research in this country, but I knew little about how everything has come about since the 1980's.

Listen to how these three kiwis have pioneered cycling in their home country on a scale not often seen in a single lifetime. They're still influencing big decisions, coaching volunteers and building lots of tools to showcase why New Zealand is a big destination for all types of cycling activities.

Wheelworks: The Dark Art of Building Wheels

Wheelworks: The Dark Art of Building Wheels

New Zealand's artisan wheel builders invited me into their Wellington hub to talk about the dark arts of building great wheels, every time.

If you're like me and you don't know the difference between a basic wheel, a wheel bought online and why you would spend extra money for a company like Wheel Works to build your wheels, then have a listen to this.

Haimona Ngata: Beer, BMX & Burgers

Haimona Ngata: Beer, BMX & Burgers

It's hard to pigeon hole Haimona as anything other than pretty original. In his thoughts, ideas, career and opportunities he's created, he's a little different to your average cyclist. Pretty much head-to-toe in tattoos, Haimona has taken his career from a pissed-off video editor to a one-man business that his is lead by his pursuit to show the world something different.

An extra long podcast show but totally worth the listen as he shares his insights into building a editing studio, getting sponsored to do his thing, working with Redbull and the social media world we now live in.

Also sorry for the expletives, theres only so much editing time I have!
