Hello and welcome back to PDC Talks: Health, Safety and Wellbeing. We are recording today from the County Satellite Crisis Center located at 1101 Highway 301 Nrth in Dillon, SC. We are presenting to you today important information on Victim Advocacy, why it is important not just for Dillon county but for all who value the basic human desire to be free from physical threat and harm.

If your boundaries were ever invaded or they weren’t respected growing up, it may be difficult to assert them or even believe in your right to them. In this podcast episode, we'll be breaking down the term boundaries. What are they? When do we need them? How do we establish them? Can we adjust them over time? The Dillon County Center discusses how January marks the 17th annual National Stalking Awareness Month (NSAM), an annual call to action to recognize and respond to the serious crime of stalking.  Additionally, this episode will discuss the beliefs and facts about abuse.

The Darlington team talks about domestic violence and the holidays, the pandemic lockdown, and recognizing volunteers while socially distancing.  

We discuss unrealistic holiday expectations, financial pressures, and increased alcohol consumption raising stress levels that can contribute to incidents of domestic violence.  Also discussed were ways to avoid these factors and how to get help should someone experience a violent situation, especially during a time when personal interaction is limited or restricted due to COVID.

The real spirit of Christmas can be found through a serving heart. I often have to remind people that we were created to serve one another and, we all need a little help from time to time because no one is meant to go through life alone. If life has given you blessings, it's important to share those with your community. 

When people find out I worked with victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse, they ask me what does that entails and what can they do to help. I tell them to serve the people in their community by finding out the need and supplying it or connect with an organization that's already providing the services.

October has been declared as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. It is a time to acknowledge domestic violence survivors and be a voice for its victims. This year, the Darlington County Team will not host our annual Domestic Violence March, instead, we have reached out to social media networks as a tool to educate, promote and spread awareness about this serious issue.

The Darlington County Team of PDC is excited to participate in our 1st Podcast highlighting personal stories of how our lives have been affected by domestic violence directly or indirectly. Sit back, grab a drink and let’s talk.
