Are You Calling Me an Uber Driver and Lyft Driver Liar? Really?

Are You Calling Me an Uber Driver and Lyft Driver Liar? Really?

In this part of the podcast, Damon discusses the importance of diversifying income sources for rideshare drivers. They share their personal experiences and explain how relying solely on Uber and Lyft may no longer be profitable. The speaker encourages drivers to explore alternative options such as food delivery services like DoorDash and Walmart Spark. They emphasize that these apps should be seen as side hustles and not relied upon as a primary source of income. By being proactive and seeking out new opportunities, drivers can stay ahead of the curve and increase their earnings. The speaker also addresses the misconception that loyalty to one rideshare company will lead to better earnings, stating that the companies prioritize their own profitability over driver incomes. They urge listeners to adapt and find new ways to make money instead of complaining about the changing circumstances. The episode ends with the speaker reiterating the need for drivers to be open to trying different strategies and exploring emerging apps that may offer better payout rates and less competition.

Walmart Spark Drivers Wet Dream Order - Sort Of

Walmart Spark Drivers Wet Dream Order - Sort Of

In this episode, Damon Day talks about a unique challenge faced by a delivery drivers. Despite injuring his back, he accepted a huge order worth $32, consisting of twelve cases of water. Damon contemplates the reasons behind such a large quantity of water and the logistics involved in delivering it. Damon decides to find a solution rather than canceling the order. To assist him, he enlists the help of his two teenage sons and decides to use his Ram Dually diesel truck instead of his Tesla. Equipped with a dolly and two wagons, they manage to fit nine out of the twelve cases into two shopping carts. They successfully load up the truck and deliver the water to a neighbor in the Damon's neighborhood. Despite the temptation to inquire about the customer's reasons for needing so much water, Damon keeps his mouth shut and completes the delivery within 20 minutes. The overall experience yields an easy $32, but Damon is curious to know how other delivery drivers would handle a similar situation. Viewers are encouraged to share their thoughts and insights on what they would do in a scenario involving a substantial order like this.

Should I Tip Lyft, Uber, DoorDash or Instacart Drivers

Should I Tip Lyft, Uber, DoorDash or Instacart Drivers

In this episode of the Penny Stupid Podcast, we delve into the contentious topic of tipping for Lyft and other delivery services. My co-host Damon and I share our contrasting opinions on whether tipping should be based on service quality and if it has become excessive. Damon, who occasionally drives for these services, argues that tipping is crucial for drivers who earn very little otherwise and rely on tips to supplement their income. However, he also acknowledges that tipping for simple transactions has become excessive. On the other hand, I acknowledge the complexity of the issue, particularly due to changes in tipping policies by companies like DoorDash and Walmart Spark. Damon highlights DoorDash's new policy that hides the tip amount from drivers until after the delivery, which frustrates him as it affects his speed of service. We also discuss the recent policy in New York that allows customers to tip at the end to reduce pressure and potential issues with non-tipping. Both Damon and I agree that the problem lies more with the companies than consumers, as customers may not realize that drivers receive minimal base pay. Damon shares his frustration with companies like DoorDash that rely on customers to subsidize drivers' pay through tips. We note that this tipping issue applies more to food delivery apps than rideshare apps like Lyft and Uber. We discuss how drivers for Lyft and Uber are evaluated solely based on their base pay, with tips being considered bonuses. Damon explains that most drivers won't accept rides with low base pay unless the tip is generous. However, he expresses frustration when he tips well but experiences late delivery due to batch orders. We also touch upon the reduction in driver pay by Lyft and how it has made it challenging for drivers to maintain a nice car unless they exclusively work in the higher-tier category. We explore the pooling of tips in the delivery platform DeliverThat, which has both advantages and disadvantages for drivers. Lastly, we discuss the complexity of tipping in services like Instacart, where shoppers have to consider several factors such as pay, number of items, and store efficiency. Overall, we emphasize the need for fair models that consider the interests of both customers and drivers in the tipping system for these services. Side Hustle Idiot Moment - I Did a Shop and Pay at the Wrong Store - Doh!

Side Hustle Idiot Moment - I Did a Shop and Pay at the Wrong Store - Doh!

The best side hustle stories come from real life events. Damon shares some recent gig updates and the story about he was doing a shop and pay with Instacart, at the wrong store. LOL. In this episode of Penny's Stupid Podcast, we introduce a new segment called "Stories from the Street" to share Damon's side hustle experiences. Damon starts off by sharing his DoorDash moment, where he took a $44 order from Safeway after receiving a contract violation. To his surprise, it was a quick and easy pickup as the groceries were already bagged, and the deliveries were just four miles away. As he was loading the groceries into his car, he received a ping from Uber offering him another pickup from Safeway for $12, which he accepted. Damon then proceeds to talk about his friend's experience with DoorDash, where they had unusual instructions to call the customer for drop-off instructions. Despite encountering canceled orders and minimal customer interaction due to COVID-19, Damon's friend still completed the deliveries and received unexpected tips. Reflecting on his own recent deliveries, Damon shares that he made around $80 for two DoorDash orders, including a canceled and refunded one. He speculates that the high tip he received was possibly from someone using their mom's credit card. Damon also mentions earning an additional $14 from an Uber Eats order, bringing his total earnings to $92 in less than an hour. He emphasizes that these delivery gigs can be lucrative when receiving high-paying orders. Damon then recounts his Instacart experience, where he accidentally went to the wrong grocery store. Initially frustrated and ranting in a video, he eventually realizes his mistake, laughs it off, and heads to the correct store. Despite the blunder, the customer appreciates the delivery and considers it a good experience. Damon concludes by expressing relief that some items on the list were specific to Kroger, as it helped him realize his error. He reflects on the confusion caused by his GPS and Tesla navigation, leading him to the wrong store. He wonders what would have happened if there were no Kroger brands at all. Laughing at himself, Damon invites listeners to share their own crazy experiences and looks forward to sharing more tales from the street in future episodes.
