140 Steve Williams: Knowledge is YOUR pharmacist superpower and I'm here to tell you WHY

140 Steve Williams: Knowledge is YOUR pharmacist superpower and I'm here to tell you WHY

In this engaging podcast episode, I sit down with Steve Williams, who shares his remarkable 30-year career journey. From his humble beginnings working in his father's community pharmacy to becoming a renowned consultant pharmacist and medication safety expert, Steve's story is a testament to the incredible impact that pharmacists can have.

Steve emphasises that the true "superpower" of pharmacists lies in their deep knowledge and expertise around medications. He explains how he dedicated himself early on to becoming a medicines expert, constantly learning and expanding his clinical knowledge. This relentless pursuit of understanding laid the foundation for Steve's success, allowing him to provide invaluable guidance to patients, healthcare teams, and organisations.

Throughout the conversation, Steve highlights several key principles that have guided his illustrious career. These include:

  1. "Why" - Constantly questioning and seeking to understand the rationale behind decisions, rather than just accepting the status quo.

  2. "Ally" - Recognising the power of building strong, multidisciplinary relationships to drive positive change.

  3. "Change" - Embracing the reality that change is the only constant in healthcare and proactively adapting to new challenges.

  4. "Excellence" - Striving for excellence in all areas, rather than unattainable perfection, which can hinder progress.

  5. "Patient" - Maintaining a holistic, person-centered approach, considering the unique needs and circumstances of each individual.

Steve's career journey took him from the fast-paced environment of hospital pharmacy to the more relationship-driven setting of primary care. He shares how this transition allowed him to leverage his broad expertise and focus on addressing the complex medication management needs of patients with multiple chronic conditions.

In addition to his clinical and leadership roles, Steve co-hosts the popular Oral Apothecary podcast, where he, along with his co-hosts, dive into engaging conversations with a diverse array of healthcare professionals.

138 Anisha Patel: Q&A Thursday!

138 Anisha Patel: Q&A Thursday!

I'm excited to announce the launch of my new —Q&A Thursdays—where I'll answer your burning questions on a regular basis. This time, it's just me, tackling three thought-provoking questions from pharmacy students I met at the BPSA conference, all while sharing intimate glimpses into my own journey:

  1. Which sector is right for me? I urge listeners to embark on a profound journey of self-discovery, much like the one I traversed. Reflecting on what sparks joy, where your skills shine brightest, and what values drive you can profoundly shape your career trajectory. I draw from my own experiences to illustrate the importance of exploring passions and aligning them with career choices.

  2. How do I balance work with extracurricular activities and home life? Getting personal, I share my own tried-and-true strategies for maintaining equilibrium. From prioritising health to meticulous scheduling, I've learned firsthand that self-care is non-negotiable. I also emphasise the significance of cultivating supportive relationships and recognising when work demands more attention.

  3. What's the best way to break into academia as a pharmacist? Leveraging my journey, I suggest immersing yourself in educational endeavours and training opportunities. Whether it's mentoring students or engaging in teaching sessions, exposure to academia is invaluable. I recount my transition into academia and underscore the value of transferable skills.

I hope you enjoy it!

137 Danny Bartlett: Exploring what a portfolio pharmacy career could look like for you!

137 Danny Bartlett: Exploring what a portfolio pharmacy career could look like for you!

In this episode, I interview Danny Bartlett, an accomplished pharmacist with expertise spanning community pharmacy, primary care, education, and leadership. Danny shares his career journey, from managing a busy community pharmacy to leading a primary care network pharmacy team.

Danny and I delve into the future of pharmacy education. They explore how universities like Brighton are evolving their programs to prepare student pharmacists to prescribe at registration. Danny emphasises that robust supervision models and instilling prescribing confidence will be vital. As a leader of a growing pharmacy team, Danny shares his collaborative management approach. By taking time to understand individuals’ strengths, interests and goals, he can distribute work in a fulfilling way. Danny also outlines how he builds team cohesion through transparent communication. In discussing his new role on the RPS English Pharmacy Board, Danny emphasises the value of this policy perspective. He encourages pharmacists to get involved with leadership bodies to help shape the profession.

Overall, Danny argues portfolio pharmacy careers provide variety and let you play to your strengths. With self-reflection, smart planning and open communication, pharmacists can find professional fulfilment across different sectors.

Key Takeaways:

  • Clinical roles like in primary care allow pharmacists to be more involved in the full patient journey and make interventions early on.

  • Portfolio careers across different sectors let pharmacists gain diverse skills and find fulfilment in varied roles. Look for overlaps and synergies when crafting your ideal week.

  • More ambulatory and patient-facing placements will help prepare student pharmacists for practice and prescribing duties.

  • Understanding individuals’ strengths and goals allows pharmacy leaders to distribute work in an engaging, fulfilling way. Regular one-on-ones are key.

  • Involvement in professional leadership bodies gives valuable policy perspectives on advancing pharmacy as a whole.

135 Maya Patel: Is a pharmacy residency the right choice for me!?

135 Maya Patel: Is a pharmacy residency the right choice for me!?

In this episode we uncover a remarkable story within the healthcare profession. We dive into Maya Patel's extraordinary journey from molecular biology to paediatric pharmacy, navigating challenges and seizing opportunities along the way.

Maya comes from a family of pharmacists, including both her parents and aunt/uncle, but she initially wanted to pursue a different career path than pharmacy. Despite obtaining her undergraduate degree in molecular biology, Maya had an existential crisis towards the end of her program, realising her passion for healthcare and direct patient interaction, ultimately leading her to pursue pharmacy like her family.

Starting pharmacy school at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic presented Maya with significant challenges. Virtual classes and physical barriers like masking and plexiglass dividers hindered her ability to build relationships and adjust to student life. Despite these obstacles, Maya proactively engaged in networking, leading her to a transformative poison control internship.

In her final year, Maya faced uncertainty regarding her post-graduation plans. Maya broadened her options by applying to over 50 positions across different areas. Her determination paid off when she was offered a clinical pharmacist role in paediatrics at a hospital in Arizona, highlighting the power of seizing opportunities and emphasising willingness to learn.

Maya's journey exemplifies resilience, adaptability, and the pursuit of one's true calling. We hope her story inspires you as much as it did us. Join us in the next episode as we continue to explore diverse stories within the healthcare landscape.

131 Jamie Wilkey: How I Made $1,000,000 as a pharmacist!

131 Jamie Wilkey: How I Made $1,000,000 as a pharmacist!

Dr. Jamie Wilkey, a former retail pharmacist turned successful online entrepreneur, shares her transformative career journey on this episode of the podcast. After a decade in retail, Jamie felt stuck and unfulfilled, particularly exacerbated by the constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic, which highlighted the inability of pharmacists to easily work remotely like other professions. Feeling "physically stuck" in a job that no longer brought her joy, Jamie turned to LinkedIn for inspiration, discovering new career paths within the pharmacy profession.

Key Takeaways:

  • Over a decade spent at the retail pharmacy, Jamie began feeling stagnant and dissatisfied with her role, a sentiment exacerbated by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Observing other professions seamlessly transition to remote work highlighted the limitations pharmacists faced.

  • A pivotal moment arose when Jamie created a LinkedIn account, exposing her to the diverse opportunities within the pharmacy field beyond traditional roles. This revelation empowered her to seize control of her career trajectory, leading her towards entrepreneurship.

  • Jamie's leap into entrepreneurship commenced with the creation of an online course, cultivated from humble beginnings with minimal investment. Within three years, her course blossomed from $500 to $5000 in value, boasting nearly 400 students worldwide and surpassing the remarkable milestone of $1 million in total revenue.

I share my own journey starting the Pharmacist Diaries podcast while working full-time as a pharmacist and professor. Launching a passion project allowed me to connect with fellow pharmacists and students in an enjoyable way. Through this experience, I'm realising that I don't like being employed by someone else - I'm much happier being my own boss. Learning skills like marketing, sales, and podcasting that I never used as a pharmacist has been incredibly rewarding.

128 Anisha Patel: A Backstage Pass to How I Built My Pharmacy Career

128 Anisha Patel: A Backstage Pass to How I Built My Pharmacy Career

In this week's SOLO episode, I take us on an insightful tour of the twists and turns of my pharmacy career. The episode provides an in-depth look at my career journey, sharing insights into the various pharmacy roles I have held and how each experience shaped my interests and passions.

If you'd like to visualise my career pathway, I've created a PDF Career Roadmap that you can access, for FREE, right here.

I discuss starting my career in hospital pharmacy before moving abroad to the UAE, where I worked in emergency medical services and helped transform their pharmacy operations. This exposed me to new skills like leadership, training, and project management outside of traditional clinical pharmacy.

Though rewarding, I felt isolated being the sole pharmacist and missed patient interaction, so I returned to hospital pharmacy. After having a child, my priorities shifted and I moved back to the UK, rebuilding my clinical skills through locum work. I then held roles across paediatrics, palliative care, and academia, finding my love for working with children. Teaching undergraduate pharmacy students helped me to find my true passion and launch the Pharmacist Diaries podcast. However, the demands of my job, a second baby and commute caused burnout. I emphasise the importance of reflection, stepping outside your comfort zone, and finding what brings you joy in your pharmacy career.

My pharmacy journey has been one of twists and turns, overcoming obstacles through perseverance, learning on the job, and playing to her strengths. My story provides an inspirational reminder that career paths rarely follow a straight line - unexpected opportunities can lead to discovering your true calling.

126 Anisha Patel: Wake Up & Crush It! 5 Simple Steps to Making Your Mornings Count

126 Anisha Patel: Wake Up & Crush It! 5 Simple Steps to Making Your Mornings Count

My SOLO episodes are back!

I started these back in December and was excited to continue them in January 2024 but life has been sooooo busy! I started my new job at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), I'm still teaching MPharm students at Kings College London & I had bulk recorded 17 podcast episodes across 3 days (which then leads to a huge amount of video and audio editing, shownotes, social media, and more!)

In this episode I am diving deep into the world of early morning productivity, sharing five must-do activities to supercharge your day from the moment you wake up.

These are things that I have personally implemented into my own routine and they have helped SO much that I am keen to share them with you! One thing to remember though, the key to a successful morning routine is consistency. While these activities may seem simple, incorporating them into your daily life can have a profound impact on your overall productivity and well-being.

I hope these tips inspire you to make the most out of your mornings and set the stage for a day filled with accomplishments. Here's to early rises and productive days ahead!

Here’s a breakdown of what I cover in this episode:

  1. Early Rise and Shine: Embrace the tranquility of the morning to gather your thoughts and set positive intentions for the day ahead.

  2. Hydrate for Success: Kickstart your metabolism and increase alertness with a glass of water, essential for sharp focus.

  3. Mindful Movement with Exercise: Energise your body and stimulate endorphin release through short workouts or yoga sessions.

  4. Nourish Your Body and Mind: Fuel your body with a balanced breakfast to sustain energy levels throughout the morning.

  5. Prioritize and Plan: Review goals and create a to-do list to maintain clarity and direction in pharmacy duties or studies.

This Is Pharmacist Diaries

This Is Pharmacist Diaries

Hello and welcome to the Pharmacist Diaries Podcast! I am your host, Anisha Patel, and I am so happy to have you here on this journey with me.

As the host of the Pharmacist Diaries podcast, I find myself wearing many hats in both my professional and personal life. I am Anisha Patel, a dedicated pharmacist navigating various practice areas, including my role as an enthusiastic paediatric specialist hospital pharmacist and as a lecturer with King's College London. Throughout my career, I've made my mark internationally, engaging in diverse healthcare systems and experiences.

With my degree in hand, I embarked on a multifaceted journey, traversing through community pharmacies to hospital settings. It was within the realm of paediatric pharmacy that I found my passion, dedicating myself wholeheartedly to this field.

In my capacity as a lecturer at King's College London, I take pride in imparting my knowledge and enthusiasm for pharmacy to the next generation. Through my engaging teaching style and real-world experiences, I aim to inspire students to pursue their own impactful paths in pharmacy.

Beyond academia, I've also had the privilege of practicing in different corners of the globe, including the United Arab Emirates. During my time there, I played a significant role in pharmacy services linked to events like the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. These international experiences not only broadened my understanding of healthcare systems but also brought a unique perspective to my podcast.

In 2020, I founded Pharmacist Diaries as a platform for pharmacists worldwide to share their stories. It has since become a beacon for aspiring pharmacists and a valuable resource for those navigating their careers. Through this podcast, I strive to amplify the voices of pharmacists, showcasing the diverse and impactful roles within the profession.

As I continue to champion the profession through Pharmacist Diaries, I hope to inspire others to make their mark in pharmacy, just as I have done.

120 Gina Bariah: From Hospital to Big Pharma (Part I)

120 Gina Bariah: From Hospital to Big Pharma (Part I)

In this inaugural episode of our new three-part series, we dive into the world of pharmacy careers within the pharmaceutical industry. We are joined by special guest Gina Bariah, a dynamic and intuitive industry leader with extensive experience spanning numerous therapy areas at country, regional, and global levels within medical affairs.

Gina's pharmacy training at Aston University and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, provided diverse experiences but made her realise that the conventional career path in hospital pharmacy might not align with her long-term ambitions. Feeling limited by the rigid career ladder in hospital pharmacy, Gina explored unconventional career avenues, including contemplating roles in banking, relocating, and even considering a career in the army.

Her quest led her to a profound realisation—there's an entire world of career opportunities within the pharmaceutical industry that extend beyond the confines of what she'd encountered in hospital settings. Through independent research, Gina uncovered a multitude of roles spanning medical affairs, marketing, regulatory affairs, and more, a revelation that highlighted the information gap surrounding industry careers for pharmacists.

Transitioning from hospital to industry roles wasn't without obstacles. Gina faced rejection due to a lack of direct industry experience. Overcoming these hurdles required perseverance and a strategic approach. Networking emerged as a crucial element in her journey, ultimately leading her to secure her breakthrough role at Pfizer, marking her entry into the pharmaceutical realm.

Motivated by her challenges, Gina established PharmAffinity, a platform designed to assist pharmacists in transitioning into pharmaceutical careers. The platform offers an array of resources, networking events, and mentorship opportunities, aimed at bridging the gap between hospital pharmacy and the pharmaceutical industry.

Stay tuned for part two, where Gina will delve into the essential skills necessary for success in the pharmaceutical industry.

116 Anisha Patel: OMG this is my first ever SOLO episode!

OMG this is my first ever SOLO episode! I cannot believe I have finally stepped outside of my comfort zone to record this for you. I made a promise to myself that I would start these before the end of 2023 and today that becomes a reality.

This episode is really short and sweet but it's a perfect way for me to get used to talking into my microphone alone. Though I have been podcasting for 3 years, I've always had guests on my podcasts and I find these conversations really easy. You're probably surprised to hear that but it's true! This is 100% a fear of mine and today I am facing it head on.

Let me know what you think :)

113 Ravi Sharma: A winding journey of self discovery

113 Ravi Sharma: A winding journey of self discovery

In this episode of the podcast, I have a wonderful conversation with Ravi Sharma about his diverse and winding career journey in pharmacy. Ravi starts the episode by sharing a story about how he struggled to find work after graduating to a pivotal moment when he met a Doctor at a conference who gave him the opportunity to work in a GP surgery for a month to scope out pharmacy roles. His incredible and inspiring journey unwinds from here as he steps outside of his comfort zone, masters the art of adapting to new environments, and demonstrating incredible leadership along the way.

Highlights from the episode include:

  • Learning how to conduct an analysis of GP surgeries, identifying problems and potential pharmacy solutions, and proposing to integrate pharmacist specific roles within GP practices

  • Why Ravi was drawn to community pharmacy and seeing the impact pharmacists can have

  • His experience going through hi pre-registration placement year and the challenges when the pharmacy chain he was working for went into liquidation

  • Recruiting newly qualified pharmacists into GP surgeries and setting up pharmacy placements with University College London (UCL)

  • His role as National Clinical Lead for Pharmacy at NHS England and advancing pharmacists in primary care

  • Becoming Director for England at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) in his late 20s and overcoming imposter syndrome

  • Recently moving into a Head of Pharmacy hospital role and bringing his primary care insights

  • The importance of believing in yourself and your skills/values when transitioning between roles

Wherever you are in your pharmacy journey, there is something special for you in this episode. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!

I also wanted to give a shoutout to my incredibly talented, generous, and all round AMAZING husband for his fabulous videography production and editing skills. Your skill is one of the main reasons why this podcast has been allowed to level up in 2023! Please let us know what you think of our video production! We’d love your feedback.

111 Yasir Sacranie (Part 5 of 6): Overcoming Challenges and Celebrating Victories

Balancing a full-time career, managing parenting duties, and running this podcast has been a rollercoaster ride of trials and triumphs. I've been lucky to have the unwavering support of my husband, Sunjay Vyas, and it's this love that has helped me juggle it all, a story I share in this episode with my guest, Yasir Sacranie, CEO of MicroPharm. We travel down our individual entrepreneurial journeys, exchanging tales of hurdles we've had to overcome, and the victories that have made it worthwhile. Alongside, we touch upon the significance of scheduling and good nutrition in maintaining high energy levels and overall productivity.

The transition to entrepreneurship isn't an overnight process. It takes careful planning, and an unerring focus on time management. In our conversation, Yasir and I delve into this very aspect.

Listen in as we discuss the pivotal role of auditing your time, focusing on the small tasks, and investing in specialists to aid in areas outside your expertise. Hear how our strategy of time blocks helped us identify time wastage and replace it with more productive activities. We stress on the importance of pacing yourself and taking things slow and highlighting the necessity of reinvesting the money you make to help your business grow.

Creating content driven by passion and community sentiment is the cherry on top of the entrepreneurial journey. I talk about how the podcast reached 10,000 downloads across 100+ countries in its first year, a milestone that has fuelled my drive to keep creating. The joy of sharing knowledge and the satisfaction derived from inspiring, motivating, and educating listeners have been a significant motivator.

Yasir and I also share our insight on overcoming challenges, embracing failure and the importance of taking initiative, even when the path seems daunting. As they say, every failure is a stepping stone to success. Tune in for an episode filled with entrepreneurial insights, motivational stories, and experiences that teach, engage and inspire.

098 Hong Thoong: Rising to the Challenge: A Pharmacist's Inspiring Journey of Perseverance and Determination

098 Hong Thoong: Rising to the Challenge: A Pharmacist's Inspiring Journey of Perseverance and Determination

On this episode of the podcast, I share an honest and inspiring conversation with Hong Thoong about her career journey. Hong starts our conversation by sharing a very personal story from her childhood and how she migrated from Vietnam to the UK in the 1980s with her family. Being raised in the UK was challenging as her parents were not educated and she lived in government housing and on benefits for many years. A hard experience for a young child, however, at the age of 10, she had an epiphany that she wanted a better life for herself. The podcast episode dives deep into how this epiphany guides Hong into becoming a brilliant and inspiring pharmacist.

Hong's life story highlights the importance of identifying how to overcome challenges and in order to achieve success in any career. The conversation then moves to the challenges of being a pre-reg trainee pharmacist, including the stress of the exam and the pressure to pass on the first try. Hong shares how she failed the exam twice before passing on the third try, and how that affected her confidence. She talks about the importance of not comparing yourself to others, especially in school and university, and the value of focusing on your own journey. This serves as a reminder that success takes time and effort, and that everyone's path is unique.

As we dive deeping into the episode, Hong shares her experience as a paediatric pharmacist at a specialist hospital where she worked with children and their families to ensure they received the best care possible. She talks about the rewards of being in a specialist area of pharmacy, seeing patients grow up and being a part of their lives, and the satisfaction of helping patients with rare and challenging conditions.

The conversation then moves onto her current role at Great Ormond Street Hospital in Medicines Safety and Governance, where she focuses on ensuring patients receive safe and effective treatments and medications. We talk about the challenges of transitioning from a patient-facing role to a more behind-the-scenes role, but also the importance of recognising the impact that these roles have on patient care.

Overall, it was a really inspiring episode that shed light on the challenges and rewards of being a pharmacist.

097 Ofran Al-Mossawi: Pharmacists are perfectly positioned to lead the way in health research

097 Ofran Al-Mossawi: Pharmacists are perfectly positioned to lead the way in health research

In this episode of the podcast, I had the pleasure of talking to Ofran Al-mossawi about her inspiring career journey. If you are interested in pursuing a pharmacy career in research or you've thought about it in the past but you're not sure where to start, then this is perfect episode for you to tune into!

Ofran has spent most of her pharmacy career in a hospital setting and has focused her time between paediatrics, critical care, and clinical trials. At the time of this recording, she was writing the finishing touches to her thesis in order to complete her PhD. An exciting achievement for her and one we can celebrate with her as this episode launches!

Ofran and I spent most of our time talking about research in pharmacy. We are so fortunate that she is a current National Institute of Health & Care Research (NIHR) Docotoral Research Fellow with the UCL GOS Institute of Child Health. She gives us insight into:

  1. Why Pharmacists should get involved with research

  2. The application process for a fellowship with the NIHR and the benefits of working with them.

  3. Why you would choose to do a fellowship with NIHR and at what point in your career would you consider it

  4. How to best prepare for a fellowship application as it is a very competitive process, including the steps you should take from early in your career to prepare you for success

  5. The pros and cons of a research career, including the challenges of balancing research with clinical work

  6. The value in mentorship and building a strong support network as a researcher

Overall, this episode was both educational and motivating, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in pursuing a career in research or looking to find their true passion in life. So be sure to give it a listen and get ready to be inspired!

096 Richard Goodwin: A Pharmacy Explorer: Paediatrics, Education, Business and More

096 Richard Goodwin: A Pharmacy Explorer: Paediatrics, Education, Business and More

Welcome to this exciting episode of the Pharmacist Diaries Podcast! In this episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Richard Goodwin, a pharmacist who I immediately connected with as both our current roles are split between paediatrics and education. Richard is the current Principal Education & Training Pharmacist with Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). He is also Co-Chair of the Neonatal and Paediatric Pharmacy Group (NPPG) (London Interest Group) and will be completing a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) later in 2023. He started his career as a STEP Pharmacist with Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. This 3-year program allowed Richard to build a solid foundation as a clinical pharmacist and allowed him to identify the diverse opportunities within the field of pharmacy. During this time he was exposed to paediatrics and identified an opportunity to spend some time at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital. His life as a pharmacist in paediatrics evolved from here...

Throughout the episode you will hear Richard share many examples of how he integrated education and training into various roles. His dedication to training the next generation of pharmacists is truly admirable, and I believe that his efforts will have a profound impact on the future of the pharmacy profession. One of the key takeaways from this episode was the importance of integrating students into the workplace early on in their education. By providing them with hands-on experiences and allowing them to work alongside experienced professionals, we can help them develop the professional skill and mindset needed to excel in their careers.

I also appreciated Richard's insights on the importance of reflection and journaling in personal and professional growth. As pharmacists, we often get caught up in the day-to-day tasks of our jobs, but taking the time to reflect on our experiences can help us identify areas for improvement, set goals, and ultimately become better practitioners. I was pleased to hear Richard's opinion about the importance of supporting pharmacists' emotional and mental health, especially in high-pressure work environments. The field of pharmacy is not immune to burnout, stress, and other mental health challenges, and it is encouraging to see a growing emphasis on addressing these issues and providing support for those who need it.

Overall, this episode was a fantastic reminder of the many opportunities available within the field of pharmacy. Whether you're interested in research, business, paediatrics, or education, there is a place for you in pharmacy. Thank you, Richard, for sharing your journey with us and for your dedication to the profession. Tune in to this episode of Pharmacist Diaries and be inspired!

094 Steve Tomlin: This is what I've learnt from 30 years in Paediatrics!

094 Steve Tomlin: This is what I've learnt from 30 years in Paediatrics!

Today I launch the first of several podcast episodes from the Pharmacist Diaries Roadshow with Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

To kickstart this podcast series, I am honoured and excited to introduce Stephen Tomlin to the podcast. Steve is an extremely passionate paediatric pharmacist who has spent over 30 years in this field. He is currently the Director of the Children’s Medicines Centre at GOSH following 3 years as their Chief Pharmacist. Prior to this, he was the lead pharmacist at Evelina London Children’s Hospital, where he also became the first Paediatric Consultant Pharmacist in 2007. His main fields of expertise are paediatric medicines safety, medicines compliance and competence of the paediatric pharmacy workforce.

For many years he has worked part time as the Professional Lead of the Neonatal and Paediatric Pharmacy Group (NPPG), allowing him to represent paediatric pharmacy on many national forums, at government level and within the Royal Colleges and within the media. He is also vice chair of the Joint Medicines Committee for the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and medicine expert on the NHSE Paediatric Medicines Clinical Reference Group.

On this episode Steve shares with us why pediatrics is such an exciting field to work in, including the challenges, the opportunities, and the sheer joy of working with pediatric patients. We also discuss the importance of understanding the unique needs of paediatric patients and the need for pharmacists to be comfortable with the uncomfortable as we don’t always have a clear answer. Steve's passion for his work is infectious, and he provides a wealth of knowledge and insights into what it takes to be a successful paediatric pharmacist.

If you're considering a career in paediatrics, you genuinely will not want to miss this episode! However, if you’re not interested in paediatrics but you want to hear a story filled with passion and purpose, you’ve come to the right place friend!

093 Special Episode: The Ups and Downs of Taking the Podcast on Tour!

Hi friends! I’m not quite sure how to contain my excitement today! Sunjay and I unexpectedly recorded this podcast episode for you all as we had some spare time on one of our recording days with Great Ormond Street Hospital and thought to use it wisely. On this episode, we decide to give you some insight into some of our latest adventures and exciting plans for the upcoming months. In the beginning of this episode, we discuss our feelings regarding taking this podcast on the road, which was our first ever roadshow, held at the famous Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. Despite some technical difficulties with the audio (which Sunjay managed to fix!!), we had a lot of fun and enjoyed working together. We are grateful for the opportunity to be creative whilst learning along the way. I dive into discussion about my plans to launch several masterclasses this summer which I am incredibly excited about. I don’t usually get the opportunity to interact with my podcast audience so this is me taking the next steps towards knowing more about you guys! I’m making it my mission to understand what you want from this platform and how I can help you grow personally and professionally. I talk to Sunjay about international working and how I want to use my personal experience to help others who want to work abroad. We discuss the challenges and benefits of working in another country and how it can change your life. Finally, we discuss our our upcoming joint masterclass on how to start a podcast. We share our excitement around helping people who want to create, and be different. We want to make it easy for people to start a podcast and provide a one-stop-shop for information to get started on their journey. I am creating a workbook so that people can take notes and learn along the way.
