Sheng Chi Martial Arts Podcast
By Phil Weaver
We teach a very rare and nearly lost form of Kung Fu called Shou' Shu'. An eight animal system once only taught to a very select few. We seek to spread the knowledge of Shou' Shu' to many so that many can reap it's benefits.

Why We Train
Since the very beginning of my training, I always had a strong feeling that the training was worthwhile. But I couldn't logically explain why. And that bothered me for thirty years. I'm not one to just go on a feeling. Yet I did for decades.
Over those thirty years, I have figured out why, beyond the possibility of saving your life aspect. In this talk, give a rough synopsis of at least part of the reasons I realized over the years. Observing for three decades showed me what my gut was telling me.
Suppression and Censorship in the Martial Arts
The martial arts have had a long history of suppression and censorship. This has led to literally hundreds or maybe even thousands of martial arts being lost. Completely erased.
These were ancient bodies of knowledge with great benefit to humanity. All gone except for a very few. All due to various forms of suppression and censorship. This episode will give you a look into how this was done and the results. At least from my limited and somewhat ignorant perspective.
If you want to begin learning one of the only known arts to survive this suppression you can get beginner classes at

The Only Solution To Violence
The Beast
There is an emotion that is not human but is. We just don't recognize it as such. In the degrees of Shifu we have always called it "Becoming the Beast". That refers to the feeling in each individual beast. But there is a more generic form of it we can call "The Beast". If we train in the right way and with a good heart we can achieve it.
Dr Jordan Peterson often refers to being a monster under his own control. This is that. This is how that is achieved. It is a thing of immense personal power.
Note: The book I referred to and couldn't remember is called "Thick Face, Black Heart"
Master Your Perceptions, Master Your World
Cobra Chi Gung - Lesson 1
This is the first lesson in our Cobra Chi Gung course.
This is an ancient fighting art which was thought to be lost. At least that's what the history books say. Fortunately, it was not lost. Just safely hidden away.
The principles taught are the same principles taught in Shou' Shu' Cobra Kung Fu (Boli Yan Shi). However, in the Chi Gung course, there is less focus on application. Some understanding of application is necessary though, even if you are only interested in the health aspects.
The motions used are the larger, more pronounced cobra motions. Like a snake slowly meandering through the grass on a sunny day. Yet these same motions, if tightened up, form the basis for the fast hitting fighting art of Shou' Shu' Cobra.

Sheng Chi Martial Arts - Episode 2
In this episode we cover the definition of Shou' Shu'. This is not the definition typically given by Shou' Shu' practitioners but rather a broader look at what makes a given technique or motion Shou' Shu'.
In most cases we talk abotu Shou' Shu' as being a seven animal fighting art system. While this is absolutely true it does not truly define anything. The beast systems are simply unique ways or sub systems of Shou' Shu'. Each of the beast systems and the combined beast system that we call Shou' Shu' must follow these three rules.
If one rule is violated then there is a flaw in the motion. Knowing and understanding these three rules will allow you to teach yourself by looking for possible violations of the rules. If there is a violation then you must seek to remedy it through this understanding.
The three rules are:
- Must move with flowing focussed chi
- Must immediatly take your opponents centerline
- Must block all possibilities
Listen to the episode to get a full understanding of these three rules. If you have questions please post them in the forums at www.shoushu.com
