Ash Ritter is a west coast born, desert-dwelling ethnobotanist, educator, writer, multi-disciplinary animist, and poet in disguise as herbalist. For twenty years and counting, Ash continues to reverently devote her life to fungal and botanical studies, encompassing traditional, academic, clinical, and directly relational terrains. Ash's approach places emphasis on plants, fungi, and planet as relations, and is manifested through her practice as fostering engagement with and as the living world, rather than "using" plants as commodities. She counsels and creates in her private practice, Black Sage Botanicals. One-on-one long term apprenticeships are the cornerstone of her training, with a focus in Druid herbalism, clinical botanical medicine, Cali-Mexican curanderismo and MacGuyver-style urban and wilderness first aid. Ash also attended acupressure school, permaculture certification training, and studied journey work with Michael Harner, just to name a few of the adjunct teachings that inform her practice. Her bachelors degree thesis focused on botanical and fungal agents for initiation, and altered states as evolutionary technology. Over the years, Ash’s research has honed in on entheogenic traditions of her ancestry, mainly the folklore, physical, and energetic medicines of Amanita muscaria, and the Solanaceae-laden Flying Ointments of Europe. Ash feels blessed beyond measure to have shadowed naturopathic Dr. Kenneth Proefrock in his office for 2 years upon her relocation to the Sonoran Desert, and almost went to medical school, until coming to recognize the potency of keeping her practice out of bureaucratic matrices. Previously, she apprenticed with history buff and lineage keeper Charles "Doc" Garcia, and worked for several years as a plant-based personal chef, and apothecarist in a bustling California Bay Area clinical herbal practice. A. True Ott, of Ogden Utah received his PhD in Nutrition from prestigious Kneipp Institute of Naturopathy in Dresden, Germany. Dresden became known as the "Hospital City" of Europe following WWI. Dresden was wrongfully targeted by Allied incendiary bombing raids in the concluding weeks of WWII - solely because it was the epicenter of research on the Terrain Theory of Disease. Thomas S. Cowan, M.D., attended Duke University, graduating in 1977 Summa Cum Laud with a degree in biology. He then served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Swaziland, Africa, from 1977 to 1980, teaching gardening in a secondary school. It was in Swaziland where he encountered the work of Weston Price and Rudolf Steiner, two of the greatest influences on his career. After the Peace Corps he attended medical school in his home state of Michigan at the Michigan State College of Human Medicine. After graduating in 1984, he did an internship in family practice in Johnson City, New York.

From 1985 until 2019. Dr. Cowan had a general medical practice, first in upstate New York, then for 17 years in Peterborough, N.H., and for 17 years in San Francisco, until his recent retirement from active practice. He formerly served as vice president of the Physicians Association for Anthroposophical Medicine and was a founding board member of the Weston A. Price Foundation. He continues to serve as its vice president.

Dr. Cowan has given countless lectures and workshops throughout the U.S. on a variety of subjects in health and medicine. He is the author of six books. Five of these books spent time on the Amazon and/or Barnes & Noble bestseller lists, and each was ranked No. 1 in their respective categories, often for many months.

In the past five years, he launched two businesses along with his wife and two sons. The first, Dr. Cowan’s Garden, sells high-quality vegetable powders and kitchen staples; the second, drtomcowan.com, distributes information, hosts his popular webinar series, and sells many of the products he has used personally and in his practice.

Dr. Cowan lives with his wife, Lynda, on rural farmland in Upstate New York. He has three children, one step-son and six thriving grandchildren.

If you are familiar with Spagyria then you most likely have heard of Robert Allen Bartlett, as he has written a handful of some of the best books on the market that break down the elusive Alchemical Arts in a student friendly fashion. Phoenix is always recommending his books (linked below) to his own students, and has long looked up to Robert as the skilled teacher that he is. Robert Allen Bartlett was the chief chemist for famous Alchemist, Frater Albertus during the 1980's in Salt Lake City, for the Paracelsus Research Society (P.R.S.). Working closely with Frater Albertus, Robert researched and developed a wide range of herbal, mineral and metallic preparations following Western and Eastern alchemical traditions for applications in alternative health care. Robert had a long career as a chemist after P.R.S. closed it's doors, working as a research scientist for new ceramic materials and then later was the Chemistry Department Manager for a large materials testing laboratory. Throughout his life, Robert has been able to document and perfect Alchemical experiments in ways ancient alchemists would have dreamed about. Currently Robert is offering in person classes at his school, Spagyricus Institute in Marysville, WA and is working on releasing many more books in the future. 

Phoenix highly recommends studying with Robert Allen Bartlett first before taking any immersion apprenticeships with him personally at the Phoenix Aurelius Research Academy.

Daniel Olsen began his journey into traditional skills in the foothills of Central Utah with his grandmother as his guide. She grew up herding sheep in the mountains of Idaho and Foraging The Hills for most of the food that she and her family ate. She passed this knowledge on to her grandchildren through her example.

Daniel has lived in many different environments including the high deserts of Utah, Nevada, the Pacific Northwest in Washington, Idaho and Alaska, Upstate New York, the desert southwest and the tropical northeast coast of Australia. In all of these locations the desire to learn the knowledge and skills of the original inhabitants has remained strong. Daniel has been fortunate to find people in all of these locations who were eager to share their knowledge. In addition to teaching Daniel is a professional Bladesmithing and the owner of 4D Blades where he designs and makes functional works of art for outdoors men and women. He is also an accomplished public speaker and storyteller and is often sought out to make presentations to local groups on traditional skills and alternative education.

Daniel has always felt a strong connection to nature and has been exploring from his childhood inspired by the stories of his ancestors, the Native Americans, and the frontiers men and women of the past.

In his free time you can find Daniel roaming and foraging in the mountains and canyons of the mountain states researching and taking pictures for his book “the Bushcrafter’s Guide to Useful Plants of the Mountain States“.
