"I Carry Her Spirit in Me" is a conversation with guest Fiona Kirkpatrick-Parsons (Standing Elk), a woman of Woodland Cree and Scottish heritage from Amachewespimawin, Treaty 6 Territory (Stanley Mission, Saskatchewan). She is the Senior National Advisor (kā-nīkānīt) of Deloitte Indigenous at Deloitte Canada, with many years of professional experience in a variety of roles across multiple sectors. In this episode, we talk about the impacts of inter-generational trauma, as well as the hope that inter-generational healing brings to current and future generations. Fiona shares her stories of living on- and off-reserve, attending Indian Day School, and how her family has overcome the many obstacles thrown their way. "Finding My Way Home" is a conversation with guest Mara Grant, sister of the host, Amy Grant. Here, we discuss her journey of self-discovery, including managing two auto-immune diseases (Celiac and Hypothyroidism) and coming to terms with her identity as a "Pink Lnu." Mara shares a revealing story about how a local university treated her during a time of crisis, and how she recovered from that traumatic series of events. We also talk at length about her work as a mental and physical health advocate.

"It's Still a Cup of Tea" is a conversation with guest Justin Tobin - a Two-Spirit, Jewish, Lnu (Mi'kmaw) from Ktaqmkuk (Newfoundland). Here we discuss how he discovered his family's hidden heritage, the struggles of accepting that he wasn't just "white bread," and his long journey of embracing his full identity. Justin shares his experiences as a Folklore undergraduate at Memorial University (MUN) and as a Social Researcher for the Torbay Folk Arts Council. We also briefly talk about healing through connections to the land and traditional Mi’kmaq medicines.

"It's Not Justice, But It's Legal" is the second half of a two-part interview featuring guest Gerald Gabriel. Here, Gerald and I re-cap our main talking points from the previous episode and have an in-depth discussion about how colonization has affected the lives of Indigenous peoples. We also talk about his time in the Canadian Armed Forces and explore his creative side as a singer-songwriter & poet.

In this first episode, I introduce myself, talk about where the idea of this podcast came from, and discuss some of the questions I'll dive into with guests. I want to explore topics like what intersectionality really means, how we can make spaces more accessible, and what diversity and inclusion can look like, to name a few. 

Over the life course of this podcast, I’ll be interviewing relations from different walks of life, including activists, educators, students, entrepreneurs, artists, community members, and so many more. Join me as we talk to guests with diverse experiences, and try to navigate how in the heck we make this world a better, safer, and more inclusive place to live in.
