Episode 64: Mastering The Art of Imperfection with Ria Ima aka Ria Davidson

Episode 64: Mastering The Art of Imperfection with Ria Ima aka Ria Davidson

In this episode, the main focus is how we can master the art of imperfection. I discuss the artistry of creativity, the reality of of being an independent artist, the balancing act of the corporate and creative worlds, the many faucets of mental health, self esteem, courage and soooo much more with the talented Ria Davidson, aka Ria Ima.
We refer to the old saying of 'being a jack of all trades' and even after the post-recording of this episode, we still refer back to the full phrase which is “a jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.” By fully embracing the essence of being a master of imperfection in our attempts of simply being brave enough to try something out, we are able to embrace the learning of getting it wrong in order to get it right by our own standards.
Ria Ima is an independent artist from North Wales flitting between the corporate and creative worlds through the medium of writing, music, video and art.
With a strong interest in mental health and human evolution, Ria is on a journey of exploration that powers her ideas and artistry.
Her first single ‘Excuses’ and its accompanying video, both released in 2021, is an outburst of emotions that expresses her experiences with social anxiety and the impact it has on relationships and friendships.
As a self-taught artist and singer, she is an advocate for the journey being the most joyful part of any learning process, something she herself had to learn as she battled that human need to be so called ‘perfect’.
Make sure you listen to her beautifully crafted vocals and music production, follow her on Instagram, Twitter and TikTok

Episode 61: Enjoy A Warm Embrace on National Hug Day

Episode 61: Enjoy A Warm Embrace on National Hug Day

In this episode I pay homage to National Day of Hugging. We take for granted the proximity we have wither those around us. Many people do not or are afraid of closeness since the Big C hit back in 2020.

I share some insight into the benefits of hugging from an emotional, mental and social level and how you can use visualisation to get you through those tough times when there is nobody around to hug. I encourage self compassionate hugging and challenge you to go and hug a friend, partner, neighour (with consent) and to enjoy the exchange and embrace while you can.

I rounded off the episode with some very fitting reminders from our advice and encouragement card deck (available to purchase again from our shop in early 2022):
1. Learn to be accepting of the things that are building you. They may not look how you envisioned them
2. If you did it once you can do it again. You possess the strength of a 1000 of you
3. Learn to appreciate the value of a pause. This allows you to be free to just exist

Episode 58: Can you have constructive conflict resolution?

Episode 58: Can you have constructive conflict resolution?

In this episode I talk on some of the insights of conflict resolution that I have learnt along the way of my journey to opening up my self esteem and learning newer and healthier ways to address conflict.

There are so many sources that provide tips and tools on how you can embrace constructive conflict as part of your ability to communicate, have healthy debate, find solutions, explore issues in a variety of relationship settings.

We won't always agree on things but this podcast really hones in on the importance of respect, accountability, boundaries and increased understanding and awareness.

I round off the episode with some very fitting reminders from our advice and encouragement card deck (available to purchase again from our shop in early 2022), read in this order:

1. Love comes in many forms. The most important is the way you display compassion and affection towards yourself

2. Be scared and do it anyway. Nothing great was built on mediocrity and passiveness

3. Write down your emotions and thoughts. Blank pages will never judge you

Episode 56: Kindness is my currency

Episode 56: Kindness is my currency

In this episode I share some #lettersofselflove in honour of World Kindness Day. I speak on the different acts of kindness you can get involved in to share and spread kindness through your currency.

I provide some brief bits of information on the science behind kindness with the 4 main hormones that are relative to kindness and why you should give your daily D.O.S.E (Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin, Endorphins) of kindness because doing good leads to feeling good and it really is contagious!!!

These acts of kindness can be inexpensive, done at your own will, be shared with absolutely anyone and also helps to boost your own mental and emotional wellbeing too.

Episode 53: What do you bring to the table?

Episode 53: What do you bring to the table?

In this episode I ask you to think about the value that you bring to the table!

Real talk though, what do you bring? What skills do you have? How do these skills help you and others around you?

Are you meant to be at that table in the first place?

Do you have the resources to build you own table and bring others along for the journey?

I give you a #cardoftheweek from my Advice and Encouragement (A&E) card deck, which I personally feel is very fitting to the central message of this podcast: "Take the time to learn a new skill that will help you reach a goal, increase your earning potential or unlock creativity" - learn to balance out that table or create a new one, do you agree?

Episode 52: Book yourself a 'do nothing' day

Episode 52: Book yourself a 'do nothing' day

In this episode I speak about some reasons why you should book yourself a 'do nothing' day in these busy lives that we live.

Constantly on the go, now with the added fatigue of trying to catchup with lost time with friends and family by 'doing' things on the weekend as well as work, run a home, keep fit and all of the in-between.

I give you a #cardoftheweek from my Advice and Encouragement (A&E) card deck, which I personally feel is very fitting to the central message of this podcast: "You have a vital responsibility to protect and guard the things that promote your wellbeing" - this includes having time to do nothing! Agree?

Episode 51: Why do we apply permanent thinking in temporary situations?

Episode 51: Why do we apply permanent thinking in temporary situations?

In this episode I speak about how the book about Buddhism I have been reading has me thinking about how I apply my thinking - more specifically permanent thinking - to temporary situations. Why do we as humans do this?

I read a short exert from the book to help divide the thinking processes into 5 components and emphasises on how we are changing beings - so applying permanent thinking does not serve us, even when we are on our last breaths of physical life, we are still changing!

I don't have the answers but it did get me thinking about how i move through life, my health, my relationships and my internal voices - they are all in temporary states and I am learning to accept this. Get a copy of The Basics of Buddhism: Key principles and how to practice book here
