Loud and Proud
In this episode of The Living Artist, Preston talks about the importance of repetition in your art marketing and career. With so much information slamming into us from all angles and at all times, people cannot be expected to remember everything you have ever done. Whether that be a piece of artwork, show, or special achievement. This is why it is important to choose some exciting moments and accomplishments from your art career to highlight and repeat in your marketing and social media presence. Don't be shy. It's time to say it loud and proud. Ye ye, ya know it... Enjoy the episode! For more information on Preston M. One Is The Loneliest Number
In this episode of The Living Artist, Preston dives into the topic of loneliness and over-isolation for artists. He is a self-proclaimed isolationist, but confesses that even he gets bit by the loneliness bug from time to time. There is nothing wrong with this and admitting to it does not make us any less of an artist. After all, balance is the key to everything in life and proves to be as well in our art practice. So what can we do about it? Listen to the episode and jump into the conversation with Preston. Enjoy! For more information on Preston M. Inventing Yourself
In this episode of The Living Artist, Preston draws inspiration from the strangest of places, the new Netflix show "Inventing Anna". On the surface, the main character of this show (Anna) might seem like the most unlikely of inspirational characters. However, strip away certain criminal and unsavory traits, and you have an artist, major business player and dreamer at heart. Preston breaks her character down into some very specific traits that we all as artists could benefit from adopting in our art careers. After all, the character of Anna takes "fake it 'till you make it" to new heights. Why shouldn't WE? Enjoy the episode! For more information on Preston M. In this episode of The Living Artist, Preston talks about drawing inspiration from our own "limited" resources and constraints. It's a bit of a paint tube is half full perspective, but can prove to be a very effective one. Inflation Nation
In this episode of The Living Artist, Preston dives into the topic of inflation. We are all seeing the price of goods and services skyrocketing across the board and a general tightening on our wallets these days. To make matters worse for us artists, the price of shipping our work is on the rise and becoming more and more difficult. With this general inflation sweeping the nation and world, shouldn't we as artists be raising our prices as well? Preston's thoughts on the matter might surprise you. Sure
In this episode of The Living Artist, inspired by the show Ray Donovan, Preston builds an episode from a seemingly ridiculous premise. He expands on his "Ray-Ray philosophy of sure", which turns out to be a mixture of surrender and productivity. To be successful in the business of art, sometimes we just need to take a deep breath, clear our head and say "sure". Artists need to hold themselves to a high standard; one rooted in the mindset of getting sh*t done. Channel your inner bada$$ with Preston and enjoy this episode! For more information on Preston M. Out With The Old
In this episode of The Living Artist, Preston talks about how the art world in general is still running on "old software" when it comes to its perception of artists. This "software" is in need of an update. Inspired (and perturbed) by watching the new art documentary "The Price of Everything", Preston shares some of his thoughts on what this documentary proclaims about the art market today. It is also a great example of how easy it is to fall back into the old "starving artist" stigma and mindset, when listening to assured voices such as these. Enjoy! For more information on Preston M. Smith and his artwork, visit https://www.pmsartwork.com, or follow him on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/pmsartwork (social media everywhere @pmsartwork). Know Your Value
In this episode of The Living Artist, Preston talks about the importance of knowing your own value as an artist. This goes further than just quieting that inner critic; although this comes first. Once you understand and own your own value, it is all about going out into the world and finding those select people who also really get you and your work. These people are rare, but add up to so much more than a sea of generic shows and exhibitions that you can take part in. Making it in the arts might just be a numbers game, but it is a selective numbers game. Sometimes we need to narrow our focus and find our handful of true fans, supporters and art dealers. This can make all the difference in your art career. Enjoy the episode! For more information on Preston M. Smith and his artwork, visit https://www.pmsartwork.com, or follow him on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/pmsartwork (social media everywhere @pmsartwork). Rebel Rebel
In this episode of The Living Artist, Preston takes an unexpected session to talk about listening to our inner artistic voice, and following what that voice is telling us to create. This could mean rebelling against conventional wisdom, family, friends, or a teacher's advice, art norms, and even our own fears and inner critics. Preston challenges us to be bold and give this inner voice a real listen. It could be the key to unlocking some true artistic freedom. This episode was inspired by the late, great David Bowie. Enjoy! You Can Go Your Own Way
In this episode of The Living Artist, Preston warns us about the "one size fits all" approach to your art career. Coaches, mentors, gurus and other successful artist's advice is wonderful, but is not the only option out there for you. Preston encourages you to absorb as much information as you can, while being open to discovering and developing your own unique creative and career path that fits you best. No two people made it the same way. It is fair game to pick and choose; to come up with your own unique hodgepodge of strategies and focus. After all, it is your art, career and life, so never forget that you can go your own way. Enjoy! For more information on Preston M. Anger
In this episode of The Living Artist, Preston talks about using anger as fuel for your creativity and art career. Anger is a renewable resource for artists and one that "burns clean". Preston shares a mental technique that he developed recently of building an emotional bonfire and burning all of this emotional and anger-filled baggage to the ground. If you don't fancy this exercise, anger can also be transmuted into the creation of your artwork. Specialness
In this episode of The Living Artist, Preston covers the topic of "specialness". This idea of being special in your art and as an artist can be used as a catalyst and force multiplier with the creation of work and drive to succeed. However, taken to the extreme, this idea of "specialness" can isolate an artist from other artists, from certain career possibilities, from being able to enjoy the success of others, and can foster an overall close-mindedness that stunts further growth. Listen to this episode with an open mind and get ready for a topic that is riddled with duality and paradox. ;) Enjoy! For more information on Preston M. Smith and his artwork, visit https://www.pmsartwork.com, or follow him on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/pmsartwork (social media everywhere @pmsartwork). Intuition
In this episode of The Living Artist, Preston talks about the importance of trusting your intuition as an artist. We all need to learn to listen to that little voice in the back of our heads that is telling us to be careful, or avoid certain situations altogether. It is a skill that we can learn to develop like anything else, that can be used to protect some of our most precious and finite resources; our time, energy, hopes and dreams. Preston shares an example of trusting intuition in his own life and art career. Can you dig? Watch my recent interview on Instagram Live with @dricaloboart, where we talk about going BIG in your Art and Career. Available here: Friday Flow 8 with Drica Lobo and Preston M. The Abundance Mindset
In this episode of The Living Artist, Preston talks about "The Abundance Mindset". We all experience struggles, depression, jealousy, and lack in our lives. Preston shows how breaking free of this "lack mindset" and developing one of abundance can not only change your perspective and happiness, but also your sales and art career. Life is too short to carry around this negative weight. Listen to this episode and decide if an abundance mindset is something you could be missing in your life and art. Enjoy!
