Podzilla's Guide To Streaming

Podzilla's Guide To StreamingAug 30, 2021
Don't Listen To The Naysayers
I've been told, both directly and indirectly, that I am a failed Twitch streamer because I decided to switch platforms by Twitch Partners. This simply is not true. I found the platform that is best for me and moved there, as any individual would (and should) do.
New Trovo 500 System: W??
This new Trovo 500 system is more accessible for everyone on a small platform like Trovo than the other system! What all is going into it? Let's find out.
Making The Move
It's not easy to make the move from one platform to another. In this week's episode I talk a little about how I was able to make the switch from Twitch to Trovo as smooth as possible, hopefully this will help anyone who's looking to making a change!
Trovo Space Levels = W???
Trovo is officially launching the new Space Level system next month, so let's talk about it!
Mental Health Breaks
Mental health breaks are essential for content creators if they're feeling overwhelmed. Just don't use them to make n announcement about your streaming future...
What Value Do You Provide?
Shout out to MoorphGames for inspiring this episode with a TikTok he did! What value are you providing with your streams? It's probably not something some of us streamers have had to think about, but if we want to grow it's a question we need to answer. If we are not providing value with our streams, in any way, then why should people come watch us???
Your Community Represents You
Who you associate with defines your community. You yourself can be the most straight-edge, non-drama person but the people you have in your community can bring you into drama through guilt of association. If you're not careful your image can be tarnished simply because of them.
Try Something New
This is still the perfect time to try something new if you're a streamer. It's still summer, views are still a little lower across the platforms because people are outside enjoying the weather or are able to be working again after the pandemic shutdowns. Why not try that one new thing you were thinking of? This time period is perfect for experimenting with a new style or genre or even a new platform, you never know what might come of it!
Viewer Request: Mental Health and Streaming + Men's Mental Health
Another viewer request episode! This one is a more serious episode, as we dive into the topic of mental health both as it pertains to streaming and a focus specifically on men's mental health at the end. I asked the guys in the community to come through for this episode, and they delivered. . . https://trovo.live/podzilla_ to watch these episodes LIVE + calming ASMR and simulator games!
What Sets You Apart?
Streaming is all about what sets YOU apart. You can be an absolute sweat at the game, but if you don't do anything differently from others who stream your game you won't get seen (barring any big event happening). You've gotta find what separates you from the pack and make it part of your stream.
Trovo Boxes And How I Use Them
This week we dig into the boxes on Trovo, which I believe are the ultimate game-changers in terms of discoverability and interaction. I talk about how I use them for my streams and give my feelings on this concept that I'm slowly coming around to.
The Importance of Branding
Branding is hugely important to streaming, just as it's important to many other businesses. Let's talk about why that is, and how I finally figured out my own branding after a couple mistakes.
Engagement On Trovo - Listener Requested Episode!
Special thanks to AngryCorgiProductions for asking me to make this video! He wanted me to talk about how to maximize engagement and grow on Trovo and talk about the different growth features they offer on the platform (boxes, spells, etc.), so I did!
AngryCorgiProductions: twitch.tv/angrycorgiproductions and trovo.live/angrycorgiproductions
Don't forget to follow me on Trovo to see these recorded LIVE on Tuesdays, as well as my other content! trovo.live/podzilla_
My Streaming Decision
I had been splitting time between Twitch and Trovo for about a month and a half, and decided to give Trovo my full focus for the month of June. I lasted about half the month before deciding to make what could be the best decision of my streaming career!
Small Streamer Series: My Mistakes
Follow4Follow. Support4Support. Supporting too many people. These are some of the mistakes I've made over my 2+ years of streaming. Mistakes that I want each of YOU to avoid!
Small Streamer Series: Getting Started
These next few weeks I am going to be doing a series on my tips for new streamers and those who feel stuck in the low viewer (3-5) range. This week we talk about getting started and what you need to know and have before and when you start.
PLEASE READ EPISODE DESCRIPTION: My 2 Year Streaming Journey
The stream disconnected right at the end so I ended the episode (I was almost done anyway), hence the abrupt cutoff.
This week is a special episode: it was recorded during my two year streaming anniversary so I wanted to talk about everything that I've learned so far as a streamer! Also, I will be doing my last Twitch stream for a month today (May 31st) because I want to dedicate a month to Trovo and see what the growth is like for me. Be sure to follow there at trovo.live/podzilla_
My Dos and Dont's of Discord
(Note: These are all my recommendations, not a rulebook. Some Discords allow things that I say you shouldn't do, and vice-versa.)
I believe Discord is a big tool for streamers, however some may not know how to use it or the proper etiquette (if there really is any) of it. This week I take a dive into it and give you some recommendations!
twitch.tv/podzilla_ for LIVE recordings + Fortnite and Bloodhunt streams
Networking
Through my two years of streaming I've picked up some things about networking, what has and hasn't worked for me and what I've seen work for others. It's time I tell you about these things I've picked up that have helped me find success, and I hope you can figure out how to make them work best for you!
Why I Love Trovo
NOTE: I HIGHLY recommend you watch this episode on either Spotify or YouTube versus only listening to it. I show different things on both the Twitch and Trovo sites so just listening won't give you the same information.
This week we dive more into why I love Trovo and why I think it could be a top platform in a few years. There are some rough spots, but it's similarities with Twitch (and much better discoverability) make it a good destination to move to or test out.

The Big Four: My Streaming Experiences
Having now streamed on all four big platforms (Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, and Trovo), I decided it would be best if I gave my thoughts on each of them in case someone is looking to try another platform. We get my takes as well as chat's takes, and MikeWhob and I just can't seem to stop singing Trovo's praises...
Words Matter
We don't always think about the effect our words have on other people, especially innocent people who hear what we say. This episode is all about the Twitter drama regarding Twitch streamers, and how words affect not only people involved in the drama but also people who may end up getting dragged into something they wanted no part of.
GoMiCo: Confidence and Streaming
This week we wrap up our GoMiCo series with our third key: Confidence! We discuss how some streamers are naturally confident, how some need that little extra boost from achieving their goals, and how the other two keys tie in with this one to create my philosophy.
GoMiCo: Mindset and Streaming
Last week we covered the first of my three keys to success, Goals. This week let's take a look at the second key, Mindset. Mindset will cause everything to snowball, the issue is it can snowball in a positive AND a negative way. All depends on how you think.
GoMiCo: Goals and Streaming
Taking a page from my own (published) book, we're working our way through my GoMiCo philosophy these next few weeks! This week we're looking at goals and how to set them to be as achievable as possible.
Handle The Negativity
Before we talked about negativity on the show in terms of viewers bringing it into chat, now let's talk about it in a couple different ways. How do you handle seeing your favorite streamers being negative live and on social media, and how do you think being negative live and on socials affects your viewers?
.
Twitter: @_podzilla_ to join in on the conversations and end up being part of the episode!
Is Partner Available To All?
In my opinion, yes Partner is available to us all. No, not everyone will have the determination to make it however. Don't let others dissuade you from pursuing what you want to achieve!
Advice
How often do you see people on social media offering you "advice", or people reaching out to you during your stream to say something about your stream? It can get frustrating at times, especially when it's unwanted advice. How do you handle it??
Popular, or What You Like?
It's the age-old question for streamers: do you stream the popular games that everyone else streams because you're hoping some of those hundreds of thousands of viewers will find your stream, or do you stream what you want and build a community around the different people who come to watch you play different games? I asked this on Twitter, and it got some good feedback that I had to share with you guys (plus my own views).
Raids and Hosts
Raiding out after every stream and hosting streamers you watch are two huge networking and supporting tools. In this episode I talk about the benefits of using these tools and why you need to always raid after stream.
Self-Serving Lurks
It's something you see from time to time on Twitch: "I'm lurking while streaming", or some variation of that message. This week let's talk about the issue with that message, and why less words are more in this instance.
The "Hollow Follow"
I've heard streamers talk about "hollow follows" before, which they use to describe people who follow them but don't come in and support even if the streamer supports them. In this episode I explain why I feel this line of thought is selfish and could cause the streamer to have stunted growth in the long run.
Viewers Over Followers
Too often I see streamers focusing on their follower count long after it should matter. They put "x/y00 Followers!" in their stream title, yet when they reach that goal their viewer count remains the same. Why do we focus on this number so much???
Handling Trolls
#EpicPartner use code PODZILLA in the Epic Games Store to support me! Also use it to get into future custom Fortnite games I'll be hosting.
Visit twitch.tv/podzilla_ to watch these recorded LIVE as well as my regular shenanigans on stream with The Pod Squad.
It's so easy for us to lash out against trolls and block them first chance we get. But what if we tried to figure out WHY they were attacking us? We might be surprised that some trolls could end up becoming our biggest fans.
Trim The Fat
I see too many streamers post content that has too much unnecessary junk. The junk results in people not staying and watching what could possibly be an amazing clip. This episode we talk about what to focus on to try and maximize the short attention span of social media platforms.
Leverage Social Media
Us streamers know to post content on social media, but do you know how to leverage your social media into new viewers? This episode I talk about how I've leveraged social media into a good chunk of my current viewer base, all from about three other streamers I connected with via social media.
Should I Stream In 2022??
Cut Out What Brings You Down
We all love our communities, but a good streamer knows when to cut ties with community members who may not be helping us achieve our goals. Sometimes you have that member who you believe cutting ties with would be best, but how do you go about it? In this episode we identify these community members, how to go about removing them, and we get some insights from chat on this as well.

Rebranding
Sometimes a change is nice. You want to change your look, or your name, or everything about your stream. How do you go about this?? We go into detail about rebranding with two examples: myself and a member of my community who recently rebranded.
Review, Review, Review
If you want to succeed as a streamer, you have to be able to look back at your past streams and see what works and what doesn't. Athletes watch film to learn where they can improve, why shouldn't you?
Don't Focus On The Numbers
Turn. Off. Your. Viewer. Count. If you want to produce the best streams and best content possible, I highly recommend you turn off the viewer count or at least put it in a place where you can't see it consistently. The more you can focus on your content, the better your streams will be in the long run.
Mix It Up
Recently I did a coaching stream in which I talked about Mix It Up, the bot I use that replaced Streamelements and Streamlabs in my chat. I talk a bit about the video in my channel, located on my Youtube which can be found here: Mix It Up Setup: The Ultimate Bot For Twitch Streamers! - YouTube
Negative No-No
NEVER bring negativity into streaming, either as a streamer or a viewer. I wanted to bring this up because I've seen it on both sides and let me tell you, nobody wants to be around that here.
The Pod Squad
Continuing our community series with an episode dedicated to mine! I talk about what our "mission statement" is, how we support each other, and we get the perfect interruption from a past guest and member of the Pod Squad!
Love Your Community
Cold Calling - Stream Edition
Don't Copy
Short episode this week, wanted to touch on something Ashley brought up in her episode. The only growth plan that works is the one that gets YOU results, not the one that gets someone else results that you're wanting to copy.
Social Media and Hashtags ft. Ashley
Brought my social media mentor Ashley on to this episode! Wanted to bring in a specialist to wrap up the social media series with a talk on hashtags and how to use them.
Social Media and Content
The kind of content you post on social media is key to finding success on there. You've gotta match up your content with your brand, or else you won't reach the optimal audience.
