Stephanie is an R&B/Neo-Soul singer-songwriter from Alberta. In this interview we discuss her new EP “Diary of Stephanie”, which is available on all streaming platforms.She is involved in a variety of Edmonton-based projects including fan favourite “Black Everyday” by Arlo Maverick and she was also featured as the Starlight Sessions’ Artist Of the Day. Stephanie also authored “I am”, a self-explorative poetry book about race and gender, the influence of close friends and family, and the complexities of a relationship with God.
#22: "Edmonton is at a Pivotal Moment" with Amarjeet Sohi, 2021 Mayoral Candidate
We interview Amarjeet Sohi, Edmonton 2021 Mayoral Candidate about his experiences as an ETS bus driver, his political journey as the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, and his 2021 mayoral campaign.
Amarjeet served as an Edmonton City Councillor of Ward 6 from 2007 to 2010, and then Edmonton City Councillor from 2010 to 2015. After that Amarjeet went on to represent the Edmonton Mill Woods as a Member of Parliament (MP) from 2015 to 2018 first, as the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities and then as the Minister of Natural Resources from 2018 to 2019. But before all of that he was a taxi driver, and an Edmonton City bus driver. Now he is running for Mayor of Edmonton in the election this October 2021.

Mohamad is the founder of the restaurant chain, Paramount Fine Foods. He is also known for his charitable work through the Fakih Foundation and being a Canadian representative of the UN Human Rights Commission. He was also named one of Toronto’s Top 50 Most Influential People of 2019 by Toronto Life. Mohamad Fakih was presented the key to the City of Mississauga last year.
In this episode we talk about how he started his journey as an immigrant business-person, why he fights so hard for refugees, and his vision for the Canadian dream.

Kristyn Wong-Tam is the Toronto City Councillor of Ward 13 — Toronto Centre. She is a human rights activist, entrepreneur, and the co-founder of Asian Canadians for Equal Marriage which helped successfully advocate for the legalization of same sex marriage in Canada in 2005. She works with 7 Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) and 7 Committee and Boards throughout the City. In this episode we talk about her road to City Hall from a homeless youth to City Councillor.

#9: Matching your money with your values through impact investing with Adam Spence
Adam Spence the founder and director of the Social Venture Connexion (SVX) at MaRS. He is also the co-founder of both the MaRS Centre for Impact Investing and the School for Social Entrepreneurs Ontario. Before his time at MaRS, Adam was executive director of the Ontario Association of Food Banks and a community leader speaking out on issues related to education, poverty and social finance. In 2002, Adam was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, and in 2012 he was named one of McMaster University’s 125 People of Impact.
We talk about his journey from non-profit organizations into social finance and how he is creating an impact while maintaining a healthy return.

#8: Africadian History and "How to Not Be Bamboozled" with George Elliott Clarke
George Elliott Clark is one of the most prolific Canadian poets and playwrights. He is most known for his chronicles and exploration of the history of Black Canadian communities of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. As well he coined the term “Afracadia”. Among his many accomplishments, he was the 7th Canadian Parliamentary Poet Laureate, he was appointed the Governor General’s award for Poetry, the Order of Nova Scotia in 2006, and the Office of the Order of Canada in 2008. We talk about the Africadian history, the contradictory nature of the British North American Act and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and the erasure of African-Canadian history.
