In this throwback episode to Maximizing Life in the Middle episode 9, we continue our talk about decluttering, but this time we are not talking about decluttering our physical space. Rather, we talk about decluttering our mind, our time and our lives overall. We asked an important question - how do you determine what is a priority in your life and then how do you go about prioritizing it?

In this episode, I share with you what you can do instead. Join me!

Ep 293 (Throwback) The amazing benefits of decluttering!
Today's episode is a throwback to episode 8 that Jay and I did in the Maximizing Life in the Middle podcast. In this episode, we talk about the process of decluttering and all of its benefits to living a higher quality life. When we have excessive "things" in our homes, it not only robs us of space, but it robs us of time as we now have to dedicate time to dealing with all of the "stuff." We talk about how to accomplish keeping an organized and decluttered house with children. Is it possible? Stay tuned to hear what we think and then weigh in by emailing us!

Ep 288 (Throwback) Surviving a crazy schedule
This episode is a throwback to episode 7 of Maximizing Life in the Middle that Jay and I recorded. We recorded this episode at the end of a particularly crazy week for all of us. In this episode, we process the week that we had, and how we navigated it. Sometimes things don’t always turn out the way we envision them, and how do we adjust to that on the fly? We talk about how important mindfulness is to successfully making it through challenging periods of time. We also discuss the “elephant” in the kid’s room – screen time. How do we balance screen time with time in the 3D world, and how do we help our kids balance that as well? Some of the summer-fun things I have done with my kids include games, bike rides, tennis, playing at the park, and watching Dude Perfect videos - my favorite you-tubers!

Ep 287 How do you react when your child brings home a bad grade?

This is a Throwback to episode 6 of Maximizing Life in the Middle that Jay and I did for a while. I hope you enjoy!  Maximizing Life in the Middle goes on the road! Ep 276 Can prayer be our go-to in tough times even if we are not religious?
This is a very special episode, and one I was very much looking forward to. I chatted with my good friend, Aaron Schiller, who shared his family's journey over the past few months through his wife's near-death experience with something that began as the flu. In this episode, Aaron and I talk about the lessons that he has learned thus far and he updates us on how his wife is doing now. We dove deep into the topic of prayer, which was not necessarily our plan. But the conversation turned on to it and it was too beautiful not to share. I hope you get something really valuable out of today's episode.  In the episode, Aaron mentions Love it Forward List, a wonderful organization that has been supporting Aaron's wife Megan with get-well letters from around the world. You can check them out on Instagram here.  Aaron also mentions the great work his wife has done through her work at The Art Pantry.

I hope you find inspiration and joy in this episode. Happy birthday in Heaven, Dad

Ep 273 Your perspective changes EVERYTHING!
Today's episode is a throwback to Episode 5 from Maximizing Life in the Middle, the podcast that my husband Jay and I did.  In episode 5, we talk about our son's freshman year of high school playing on the varsity volleyball team and helping him to see his frustrations with the season from a different angle so that he could see all the good that came out of it. We can apply this technique in all of our challenging or frustrating situations, even when dealing with a serious illness, loss or something similar. We also talked about a concept we heard about giving 100% of yourself to every interaction you have with another person for an entire day. Could you do it? Finally, we talk about being vigilant about not making negative or limiting statements. They are so subtle sometimes that we might not even recognize them when we say them.

Ep 223 Juggling schedules in a busy household
How do we do all that we do? It takes a village to raise a child and we couldn't do it without Jay's wonderful mom! She is always there to help us with our kids and their schedules. It also takes a good deal of "calendar syncing" to make sure we are doing what we want to do and making sure everyone gets where they need to be.  One of the most fundamental beliefs we share is that we each chose to spend our lives with the other one of us. Who are we to tell the other person how they should be spending their time? If the activity makes the other person happy and can fit in with our lifestyle, why not? And then, with all that we have going on, how do we not become ships passing in the night?

Ep 222 Watching girls take a stand for themselves
In episode #3 of Maximizing Life in the Middle (throwback) we talk about a stand that our daughter and her classmates took to be allowed to wear tank tops to school when the weather gets warm. The initial reason years ago for banning tank tops in her school was so that boys would not be "distracted" by seeing girls' shoulders. At what point does it stop being the girl's responsibility to not be a distraction and instead become a boy's responsibility to not be distracted by the girl? We also talk about how each individual is responsible for their own behavior and should not blame their choices on another person. We cannot control what happens in the world; we can only control our own response. Join us!

Ep 216 How to feel like you have it all
In this mashup episode, we talk about how things might have fit in one phase of our lives but no longer fit or how we would love them to fit but they don’t quite yet. The phrase “have it all” should be changed to “have all that you want” because if you try to have it all, your life will be over-stuffed and stressful and much of “it” is not even something that fits your life anyway. At the end of this episode, we offer our listeners a useful activity they can do to take a good look at their lives.
