Dashboards in Power BI

Dashboards in Power BI

Hey everyone, this is Dhruvin and today's podcast we will be talking about what is dashboard in Power BI? So let me talk about what do we mean by dashboard and how it is useful for our business processes. A dashboard is a single place where we can store all the information about the business to monitor and make the decision process faster.

It helps us to ensure all the colleagues are on the same page and viewing and using the same information about the business. This also helps us to monitor the progress of business by analyzing different product review marketing and promotional campaigns.

Now, this is the benefits of using the dashboard in our day to day business scenario. Now let me talk about how do we create the dashboard within the power BI. So let's say for an example you have created one single workspace for your organization and you have developed around 10 to 15 reports in a single workspace.

Now in dashboard we can only represent the most useful information from our workspaces. So basically what we need to do here is we just need to open each individual report and just Pin most useful visualization for our report, and we can place them on the dashboard so that all the analysis of our workspace will be represented into a single dashboard. A dashboard is something where we can place entire report as well. Like let's say if I want to pin the entire report that I have developed.

We can just need to pin it and that will be added to your dashboard page and when we click on the specific element of our dashboard we will be redirected to the specific report page where we can explore more about data right? So this is the overall information about the dashboard, so it is something that is created on the top of your report. So once our report is developed, most information most useful information will be placed all together at a single place and we can represent them to the end client. So hope this is clear for you now.

See you in the next session. Have a great day, goodbye.

Reports in Power BI

Reports in Power BI

Hey everyone, this is Dhruvin and in today's podcast we will be talking about what is reporting Power BI, a Power BI report is a combination of pages and visualization. Visualization are either the out of the box visualization or the custom visualization. We can add line, area ,map, KPI, gauge, tree map. Lots of out of the box visualization in Power BI desktop file and prepare some out of the box. Beautiful visualization for our clients.

Now let's talk about the report development process. The very first step that we need to perform in order to develop the Power BI report is that we need to connect the data sources. Data sources can be anything at this moment, so many out of the box connectors are supported in order to develop the Power BI report. Like let me talk about some out of the box connectors. so let's say Excel connector, SharePoint Connector, SQL Server connector, SSAS connector. So many connectors are available. With that we can also connect some social media connectors as well, like LinkedIn Connector, Facebook connector, Blogger connector, etc. Now once we connect our data source.

Then the next step is that we need to perform some ETL processes.

And then once we done with the ETL process, we need to place the visualization and drag and drop our fields within that. Once we develop our visualization, we need to publish our report to Power BI service. Power BI Services, a place from where other users can access your report.

So the first step is that we need to publish the report once we publish the report, we need to open our power base service account and go to the report section under report section. We would be able to see our published report.

In published report there are two types of mode available. One is reading mode and one is editing mode. If you have access for editing the report, you can edit the same Power BI report from the service as well. But if you only have an access in order to view the report then you will not be able to edit your report.

So everyone with an admin member or contributor role can edit the report.

They have access to all the exploring, designing, building and sharing capability of the editing view for that report. If we have shared the report with someone using the email address, then only they can view the report. They cannot edit the report so they can view only report in the reading view. So this is the overall idea.

About report and report development process in power BI. See you in the next podcast.

Datasets in Power BI

Datasets in Power BI

Hey everyone, this is Dhruvin. In today's podcast we will be talking about data sets in Power BI. First of all, let's talk about what is dataset?. A data set is a collection of data that we import or connect to. Power BI allows us to connect an import all sort of data set and bring all of it together into a single place.

We can also source the data from dataflows. Datasets are something which associated with the workspace and a single data set can be a part of multiple workspaces. We can open the workspace and check the associated data set under the data Set tab.

Each listed datasets represent a single source of data. Example Excel or SharePoint or OneDrive or SSAS, Tabular or Salesforce or any other custom API data. There are many different data sources supported at this moment. Lots of out of the box connectors are available for Power BI desktop.

We can also share the data set from one workspace to another workspace and we can provide the access as admin member or contribute role to our data set. So this is the basic information about the data set. Hope this is clear for you now. See you in the next podcast with some another interesting topic.

What are Capacities in Power BI?

What are Capacities in Power BI?

Hey everyone, this is Dhruvin and today we will be talking about what are capacities in Power. BI? Capacities are a core power BI concept which responsible to host and deliver our power BI content capacities are either a shared capacity or a dedicated capacity. Now let's talk about both the capacities in detail.

Shared capacity is shared with other Microsoft customers, while dedicated capacity is fully committed to a single customer. Dedicated capacities requires a subscription, and by default whenever you are creating any workspace, even with the pro license, it is considered as a shared capacity.

Hope this is clear for you now. See you in the next podcast. Have a great day, goodbye.

What is App in Power BI?

What is App in Power BI?

Hey everyone, this is Dhruvin and today we will be talking about what is an app in Power BI? An app is a collection of reports and dashboard. When we wish to share anything with our customer and we don't want to make that editable for the end user. We can share the app with them and the end users and consumers

can easily access our app. One more thing that we need to consider here is whenever we are sharing our app with our consumers, they should have Power BI Pro license activated. If the app is created from the premium capacity then your reception shouldn't require any pro license.

They can easily access reports and dashboards available from that particular app. So in short, in simple Word app is something which shares your reports and dashboards together in all one place and we can easily share and bundle together everything and share it with our customer and the customer can easily access that.

Everything within the single app. Hope this is clear for you now. See you in the next session with some another interesting topic. Have a great day, goodbye.

What are Workspaces?

What are Workspaces?

Hey everyone, this is Dhruvin and in today's podcast we will be talking about what our workspaces in Power BI? Workspaces are  container for Dashboard reports, data set and data flow in Power BI.

We have two types of workspaces available. One is my workspace and second is workspaces.

My workspace is something which is a personal workspace where we can store our own power BI content. We cannot share anything from our my workspace. For that we need to use a normal workspace. Now what do we mean by Workspace? Let me talk about that.

Workspaces are basically used to collaborate and share your content with your colleagues.

We can easily add our colleagues to our workspaces and collaborate on dashboard reports and datasets.

One more thing that we need to consider here that if we want to share anything with our colleague they should have active power BI Pro license. If they don't have power BI Pro license activated they will not be able to view the content shared in the workspace.

In short, workspace at the place where you can create, publish and manage the app for the organization. Hope this is clear for you now see you in the next podcast. Have a great day, goodbye.

Elements and Building blocks in Power BI

Elements and Building blocks in Power BI

Hey everyone, this is Dhruvin, and today we will be talking about different elements and building blocks for power BI. Let's first discuss the different elements.

The first element is the Power BI Desktop. Power BI Desktop is a desktop based application where we can develop different power BI report and prepare eye-catching and stunning visualization.

The second component is the Power BI service. Power BI Srvice is a SaaS based application. Using power BI service, we can view our Power BI report on  browser or mobile devices.

The third component is Power BI Mobile application Power BI Mobile application provides the flexibility to view our developed report into mobile devices.

Now let's discuss about major building blocks of power BI, the major building blocks are datasets, reports and dashboard.

This data set, report and dashboard are placed into workspace. An workspace is something which is used a capacity. The capacity is either the shared capacity or premium capacity. Now let's talk about each individual concept into my next podcast. Stay connected with me.

Have a great day goodbye.

What is Power BI?

What is Power BI?

Hey everyone, this is Dhruvin and today we will be talking about what is power BI. Power BI is a business intelligence tool developed by Microsoft. We can convert our raw data into meaningful data with the help of Power BI. We can create eye-catching visuals, reports, and dashboards with the help of Power BI.

It also facilities to create eye caching reports, dashboards and visuals.

With that power, BI facilitates to connect any data sources over there.

At this moment we can connect different data sources like File System, Excel, SQL Server, SharePoint Online, Rest APIs, anything with the help of out of the box available connector. With that it also facilitates you to create your own custom connector as well as.

Your own custom visualization, with the help of R and Python script.

These are the flexibility of the power BI, which provides us also power BI is a part of power platform component, meaning we can easily integrate with the other Office 365 product very easily. Also we can embed Power BI report with any custom web application.

Using power BI embedded, this is the beauty of power BI and now let's celebrate the different concepts into my next podcast. See you in the next series. Have a great day, goodbye.
