Tim McAuley spent the better part of his youth and 20s as a self-proclaimed hedonist. In 2004, the party came to an end. At 28 years old, his liver was failing, and he was given an ultimatum. Quit or you will be dead by August.
A few years later, on a wave off the coast of San Clemente, California he was reborn a soul surfer. That wave brought him into focus and he got a glimpse of his own potential. He learned to get out of his own way and just flow.
Soul Surfing is Tim's Metaphor.
"The principles at play in your development as a surfer are easily applicable to every area of your life."
With that thought, in 2010 Tim founded Soul Surfer School and has been sharing his brand of self-development since.

It is not easy to make positive changes to your life, but it can be done.
Develop Greater Confidence With These Easy, Everyday Habits
Confidence affects every part of your life. Your boss and coworkers feel more admiration, trust, and respect for you when your confidence is high. Even though you may not feel confident, there are steps you can take each day to grow your confidence.
Eventually, feeling more confident can become a habit. Greater confidence is one habit that you will never want to break.
Virtues of Living Simply - Keep It Simple Sweetie
KISS — keep it simple sweetie. This was what one of my first writing professors wrote on my critique of Mark Twain’s book, “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn”. He told me that I should write in a way that I would want to read and it would be one of my key virtues as a writer. This advice served me well in my writing from that point forward. However, it wasn’t just my writing that I needed to simplify. I didn’t realize it at the time, and I am still working through the implementation of it, but there are virtues of living simply.
Accepting Rejection with Resilience Muscles - Habits of Resilience
The First Rejection
There was this really cute boy in my class named Ryan. He was usually pretty nice to me, so I had no reason to assume anything nefarious when he asked me to close my eyes. I was pretty sure he was going to kiss me, so of course, I closed my eyes. Then he used the permanent black magic marker to connect the dots on my freckly face. He got quite a few of them connected before I realized what was going on. Not only did he reject me, but he also humiliated me, and the black marker stayed on my face as a reminder for days that I didn’t belong.

Life seems to become more stressful with each passing year. The impact of stress can pose serious challenges to your health and happiness. Much of our stress is the result of habits that have a negative impact on our lives. We often create our own stress and become less capable of dealing with it effectively.
Habits save time and are similar to autopilot. By relying on our habits, we can free up our mind for other tasks.
While it’s easy to see how diet and exercise habits can influence our waistline, it’s a little more challenging to accept the idea that our habits can either create stress and misery, or promote relaxation and harmony.
It can be difficult to measure your mental strength when life is running smoothly. However, when you a major event like divorce or being laid off decides to enter into your life, you will need to have your head in tiptop shape.

Decisions are the start of all the progress you could start to make in your life. When you don’t make choices, then you can end up just drifting through life. Many folks make less than optimal decisions that can sometimes drive their lives a bit off-course. Other folks will often avoid making choices not matter what, which isn’t necessarily a way to move forward.
