12 : Telling The Truth

12 : Telling The Truth

In this episode, Mia and I speak honestly about telling the truth.

In the typical format of; 1 topic (telling the truth), 5 different categories, and 60 seconds each.

When you have to listen intently and then speak passionately within the space of 2 minutes it's a real struggle sometimes to speak from the heart and not just surface level. It's also tough to speak completely honestly and tell the whole truth within the space of a minute.

Think about the times that you're explicitly told to tell the truth, they're a challenge, aren't they!?

In this episode, you'll be able to hear two people grappling with the concept and being vulnerable in doing so.

Honestly, we hope you enjoy it.  We certainly enjoyed making it - and that's the truth.

Follow us on Instagram where we'll put updates, behind the scenes stuff, and a whole heap of other things we find inspiring.

11 : Post-Lockdown Predictions

11 : Post-Lockdown Predictions

In this episode you find us recording again during the Corona Virus lockdown!

As such we thought we'd occupy our minds and our thoughts with post-lockdown and post Corona predictions.

We lightly touched on this subject in the previous episode but we thought it would be good to devote a full discussion to it. For us, this podcast and this episode in particular will act as a time capsule of sorts.

It's going to encase feelings, thoughts and specific experiences we've had during lock down and as such it'll be fasinating to see what we think of our predictions in the years to come!

During this episode we talk about what we hope for the future on the back of this pandemic, what we fear for the future and chat about some more personal aspects as well.

This episode, even if you're listening to it years on from the lock down could act as a prompt for you to check in with yourself and to understand what your life has been since lockdown. Perhaps you made promises to yourself that you've not kept, or perhaps the opposite and you've improved your life for the better and this is a chance for you to recognise that and give yourself a good pat on the back!

Mia and I are so excited to have a listen to this in a few years time and reflect on what we discussed, it's such an exciting platform, format or topic. Fingers crossed when we do come back to listen to it we will be doing so alongside our community and we can all have a nice giggle at our predictions.

10 : Learning :

10 : Learning :

It's the big TEN!!!

We've hit double digits in episode numbers and wow does it feel like one heck of an achievement!

Conveniently, this episode is all about learning. Mia and myself started this podcast with a few plans and aims, one in particular being - to learn.

For us, learning is of such massive value, we are of the opinion that you don't ever stop learning and nor should you want to.

In this episode we share some of our biggest lessons and our wider thoughts on learning. We hope you enjoy and we look forward to learning from you soon!

09 : Virtual Life

09 : Virtual Life

In this episode we focus on a very poignant topic for these trying times - Virtual life.

It's currently April 2020 (at the time of recording) meaning that both Mia & myself are experiencing lockdown in the UK due to Covid-19. Virtual life in 2020 is such a rich discussion point.

Prior to Covid we were already moving at pace towards digitising our lives, moving into virtual spaces, investing in AR & VR, now however things have kicked into hyperdrive!

08 : Family

08 : Family

Family is such an integral element to both of our lives, it would have been remiss of us not to discuss it!

Family is a fantastic thing.

There are biological families, adoptive families, friendship families, animal families and much, much more.

Mia and I come from completely different backgrounds and family settings, but equally find that we share many similarities as well.

It's such a deep and rich subject which could lead to so many different discussion paths.

Fortunately, due to the format we've chosen for the podcast we managed to avoid talking for hours on end, even though we could have done very easily!

Without wanting to give too much away before you listen, in this episode, we discuss how family can influence you and your life, how a 'found' family (such as a group of friends) could be just as, if not more important than your biological family and in the spirit of the topic and our growing community we welcome you into our Speed Podcast family as well.

07 : Black Lives Matter

07 : Black Lives Matter

In our episode on priorities you may have heard us talk about how and why we've decided to rearrange and reorganise this podcast.

We already had several episodes lined up and ready to go, but then Corona came along and that affected the whole world.

Just when we thought there couldn't possibly be a more important issue, the Black Lives Matter movement was brought into the 'spotlight'. A black man was killed by police officers in America and thanks to social media and a 24-hour news cycle the whole world watched it happen. This certainly wasn't the first time something like this has happened and sadly, it won't be the last.

It'd be fairly easy to say that this incident brought racism 'to light' but that would be a massively unfair statement, racism was already in the light, but the world hadn't been looking, or rather it had almost deliberately looked the other way.

People from all sides of the 'debate' were once again at blows with one another, the internet on fire with simplifications, biases and closed minds.

This 'event' and 'wave' felt more significant, bigger and more wide-reaching than ever before.

Being two white people, living in Britain it would have been entirely possible for Mia and myself to leave this topic off of our podcast (for many reasons) but because we thought it was so important and because it was such a significant moment and worldwide 'event' it wouldn't have been real of us if we'd just ignored it.

And so, we bring to you our discussion and episode on Black Lives Matter, we hope it stimulates some thoughts, some conversations and some reflection.

06 : Corona Virus

06 : Corona Virus

Whether you're listening to this episode in 2020 or 2070 you'll have likely heard about the Coronavirus and the virtual shut down it put the world into.

Not wanting to be 'sheep' and follow the herd, Mia and I debated for a few minutes about whether or not to have Corona as a topic for our podcast.

But we decided that because of its huge implications and possible effects it has and will continue to have on the world, it would be a shame to miss out on the opportunity to discuss it within our framework.

The recording of this episode was done from our respective houses (mine in Manchester and Mia's in London) and that added an extra element to the whole proceedings. We had to arrange a timer that we could both see and hear, it meant investing in some slightly more advanced microphone equipment and we had to account for possible technology disruptions as well... All part of the Corona episode and 'experience'.

This episode is filled with questions, intrigue, predictions, technology hopes, ups, downs, lefts, rights and diagonals. It's what someone in the cliché 'market' would call a rollercoaster ride!

We're both pleased to say that neither of us has been directly affected (health-wise) by the virus and we extend our well-wishing to anyone who has.   Of course, as per usual, if we've not discussed something or missed a bit point worth mentioning within this episode and you want to make sure it gets said and heard get in touch and let us know!

Thank you again for listening and see you on the other side.

05 : Priorities :

05 : Priorities :

In this episode you're going to get a behind scenes glimpse of how Mia and myself think about the podcast.

This episode was actually recorded way after a lot of our other episodes (hence the hopeful sound quality improvements).

There are several reasons that we've slotted this episode in here and we talk about these in the episode itself.

When launching a podcast it's always advisable to get a good first run and to get people interested in the early days.

Algorithms govern a lot in the world these days and the algorithms 'decide' what does well and what doesn't, if you get a good reception in the early days it means more people will likely hear and see your output. Because of all of this Mia and I wanted to showcase a more recent recording more early on so that you wonderful people could get a flavor of what's to come in our later installments.

Mia and I love learning and we learn most from doing and from others who have done and therefore if we can provide the same to our listeners...We will!

So here's an episode of our thoughts on priorities in terms of our wider worlds but also in terms of starting and launching a podcast or new project.

Thank you so much for listening and please, review us, share us and get in touch!

02 : Different vs Weird

02 : Different vs Weird

Our first official topical episode, how flipping exciting is that!

In this episode, we discuss two very important words; different and weird.

Mia and I have chosen these words to represent our respective brands and companies and therefore we felt it would be a good idea to investigate and explain our reasons for this further.

This is your first real chance to experience the podcast's format and that is; One topic, discussed in relation to five themes and 1 minute each (per person) to talk through our thoughts.

You will hear us discuss the following consistently in each episode: Community, Success, Creativity, Gender & Personality.    This was our first attempt at the format and unsurprisingly to us, it was quite difficult.  It's certainly going to be a learning journey for us as we get better at it and improve our ability to discuss and express our thoughts at speed!

Please, let us know what your thoughts are on the words weird and different!  Do they have positive or negative connotations for you and did we miss any glaring things we should have discussed?

03 : Authenticity

03 : Authenticity

This episode is kind of an 'inception' style episode for Mia & myself.

This episode was actually recorded way down the line and was not actually the third episode we recorded.

The reason we've placed this one here is that Mia & myself had a long discussion about how to make this podcast as 'successful' and effective as possible, whilst also retaining our authenticity and integrity. That discussion was such an interesting one and full of so much emotion and intention, that we thought we should record an episode on it.  So here we are... Our episode on authenticity.

The original third episode was going to be the one we did on focus, but the sound quality of that episode wasn't as good as we'd like and therefore in order to make sure we gain and keep our listeners we wanted to showcase our 'best' stuff upfront.

This was a really tricky thing for us to balance as the focus episode has some incredible insights and thought-provoking topics, but we also know how the world and podcasting works.

Due to our aims to be as honest and upfront with you as possible we have of course kept the focus episode in our library and you can hear it. It's still a great episode, but as we discuss in this one, we wanted to make sure we showed you some of our best in order that you'll give us some slack for our less than perfect sound quality earlier on!    We want to share this journey with you, the highs, the lows and the in-betweens.

Thank you for listening and we'd love to hear what you think of our decisions and our discussions... Have you had difficult decisions to make to retain your authenticity, we'd love to hear about it!

04 : Inspiration

04 : Inspiration

In this, our fourth episode we chat about inspiration, and what a great topic that is!

After all, who doesn't like to be inspired?

Inspiration is what fuels ideas, passion and moves the human race forward. Without it, we flounder and stagnate.  In this episode, Mia and I talk about what inspiration means to us, where we find it, where we don't find it and discuss how our lives to date have provided us with our inspiration.     In a sense, this episode is a very layered discussion. We talk about the meaning of inspiration, what inspiration we've found throughout our lives, how and why we were inspired to start this podcast and how we aim to make our listeners feel whilst listening to it as well.

Whilst we won't preach and claim to be 'inspirational' figures, we do hope to have an inspiring influence on you to take massive action, but even if that's in the very smallest way that’s fine with us. A very important element to us on the discussion of inspiration is the impact you can have on others.  So whether that's the impact you can have on your friends, your family or even Mia and myself, we encourage you to recognise how much influence you have, often without knowing. Even the smallest words and actions can inspire, so keep that in mind and think about what you're putting out into the world!

A 'task' for you is to smile and inspire happiness in the world. A smile caught is a smile multiplied.

01 : What is The Speed Podcast and Who the heck are we?

01 : What is The Speed Podcast and Who the heck are we?

Hi everyone, thank you and welcome to The Speed Podcast, brought to you by Mia Von Loga and Lord Simon Jacobs.

In this introductory episode you get a glimpse into our worlds, find out about how and why we came to start the podcast, our hopes for the coming episodes and what big picture plans we have in store.

A quick introduction to ourselves...   Mia Von Loga - The living embodiment of a multipotentialite (someone who has many different interests and creative pursuits in life). She's a highly skilled footballer, singer-songwriter, philosopher, coach amongst a multitude of other things as well. She runs companies called D!fferent, Beyond Defence and has her own Youtube interview series called D!fferent Lives.

(Lord) Simon Jacobs - A 'entrepreneur' at his core. He loves to bring his creativity into everything he does and is now in a pursuit to help others to do the same. A marketing lecturer by day, an author and a creativity consultant by night! Simon runs a company and Facebook group called Professional Weirdos which is devoted to helping people recognise their creativity within and utilising that to achieve success, however they define it.   *Oh and we're both obsessed with dogs.

We formed this podcast on the back of some really exciting conversations we were having. Whenever Mia and myself get talking about our interests, our views on the world (be it work, creativity, gender etc) or our plans for the future, we always feel our minds whirring and spring into action. We thought about a way to bring those conversations to you and a way in which to help anyone get fired up and their minds going, and thus we created the concept of The Speed Podcast.

Think of this podcast as the 'behind the scenes' of creativity. By which we don't mean the behind the scenes of a new painting being made, but rather the behind scenes before the idea for the painting is even conceived!

Mia and I treat this podcast as a form of creative stretching, a warm-up before the real work gets done. We lightly touch on subjects and constrict ourselves deliberately to only a short amount of time on each, so that our minds are straining to say, do and think more. We can then unleash that creative energy onto any project we see fit and we're hoping the same will happen for you.

An incredibly important part of all of this for us is the community aspect. As we touch on in this introductory episode, this podcast is also for ourselves to learn from and to grow from and therefore we want to surround ourselves with other creative, wholesome and exciting individuals as well.

We hope you enjoy this first episode and we look forward to hearing your thoughts, questions and intrigues!
