Seeing the Value in What Sets Us Apart | Why Develop the Skill to Build Connections on Differences? Many of us learned at a young age to be wary of what and whom, was different. While the differences that we were cautioned about will differ based on our lived experiences, the outcome is the same. We've learned to fear what is foreign to us. Which often translates as fearing what stands to contradict, or place a spotlight, on some of the limiting beliefs we carry. Our beliefs are the gateway to our potential. Whether we're talking about our beliefs about ourselves or our beliefs about the people around us - learning to be comfortable with difference, enables you to dissect the differences between our beliefs and those of others, making the required shift and changes that enable our personal grown and evolution. Learning to Quiet Intrusive Thoughts | How to Reclaim Power Knowing that You are Not Your Thoughts Maybe people don't recognize the distance that exists between them and the thoughts they entertain. We judge and criticize ourselves for thoughts that we know are not welcomed. Truth is, unless we're consciously following a stream of thinking, thoughts reserve the right to just pop into our heads. Exercising our will is required to determine which thoughts we entertain, and which thoughts we dismiss. If the thought does not serve you - you have the ability to dismiss it. You can create different strategies that enable you to retrain your mind to focus and attract thoughts that enable you, and empower you, while doing away with the thoughts that torment you and cripple you. The Power of Kindness in Attracting the Energy You Want & Counting the Energy that Doesn't Serve You Energy Management requires you to tap in the energy that serves you best. Rarely has anyone successfully navigated through life operating through a fear-based model, because we attract the energy we focus on. Which means we need to discipline ourselves to focus on what we want, rather than ruminate and dwell on what we don't. This includes people, places, situations, and circumstances - those that serve us and those that don't. Oftentimes we've conditioned ourselves to approach life defensively. Whether that's taking on a persona to avoid getting hurt, or setting the tone to avoid being targeted, our behaviour is centred on ensuring the outcomes we don't want, don't manifest. Here's another option. Focus on showing up authentically. Give yourself the opportunity to show yourself, that you can push through what life throws at you, without the bravado and without feeling prepared. Allowing life to surprise you, gives you an opportunity to surprise yourself. We need to speak up, because it is often the case that silence enables violence of all forms. Focusing on Being Comfortable in Your Own Skin & Disregarding the Projections of Shame from Others A tell-tale sign that someone is operating from a place of shame? It's blame. Or, more often, the assumptions, criticisms and judgments that people feel inclined to place on you. When they say that what people have to say about you, gives you more insight into their inner world - that's not an exaggeration. In fact, it's another way to call out the projections that we often call opinions, beliefs, and points of view. Projections of our own sense of inadequacy, shame, and lack of self-efficacy. So, for those of us who have done the hard work to heal, to cultivate acceptance for the things that took place that were beyond our realm of control, and accountability what was -- who we allow ourselves to become as a byproduct of those people, places, and circumstance. This is highlighted by the (many) times we had to take our foot out of our mouths, or we found ourselves knee deep in the consequences that our false assumptions created. Sometimes it's the conclusions we jump to, and the way we handle our reactions and our behaviours to those beliefs, that end up leaving irreparable damage to the people, places and situations that we care about. So while creating action on an assumption seems... inviting, resist the urge. Whether it was through formal education, life experience, a family member, or a mentor, not any one of us was born with a repertoire of knowledge beyond what instinct preprogrammed. Regardless, so many of us feel insecure about our ignorance when we enter new settings and new environments. This is largely because we recognize the unspoken expectation of performance. We are also cognizant of the gap. A significant and meaningful gap in what we know, and how that lack of insight can considerably hinder our ability to perform. Rather than focus on learning the fundamentals, we allow ourselves to ruminate and bask in insecurity for the mere fact that the gap exists. Each of one us is able to perform, so long as we are clear on what learnings feed into performance within that context. This is whether we focus on the psychological and emotional toll, or the very real exposure to physical danger it can create. In either case, there is risk inherent when you keep your (fr)enemies close. The worst way to learn this is through personal experience. Having a network of individuals who are unreliable and untrustworthy is almost as dangerous as having no one but yourself to rely on. This became exceptionally clear to me by the time I was cycled into the fourth non-disclosed centre for women escaping violence, trying to escape the men (and women) who were actively terrorizing me. If ever you find yourself targeted by predatory individuals, recognize the first thing that they assess is the quality of your relationships. If there is a weak link, they are sure to exploit it. For many of us, living off-grid translates as exiling ourselves from society and limiting our interactions with one another. Many of us assume like-mindedness when we engage in conversation, and feel defensive when confronted with alternate points of view. Many of us filter our thoughts, choices, and actions through the filter of perfectionism. Our aim is to model all that is expected of us, rather than to do what it is we feel inclined to do in that moment. We can easily become so consumed in meeting the expectations of others that we fail to see to what extent our own voice has taken the backseat. By the time we recognize that it's an issue, it becomes a process of self-discovery to not only find our voice, but also develop the values and beliefs that enable us to use it without the fear of judgment. Finding our voice is synonymous to giving ourselves permission to not be who people want us to be, and also not being who people expect. It's the true driver in being who you are, unapologetically. Many of us are used to the dysfunction that stem from being psychologically wounded. We have acquiesced to beliefs that hurt, relationships that harm, and feelings of inadequacy, guilt, and shame that serve as daily companions. Many of us carry this pain on a daily basis. Whether it's on display or we're hiding in plain sight. Understand that those who chose to heal, experience pain as well. There is pain involved when confronting the issues, memories, and moments that have harmed us, and pain involved in choosing to outgrow the dynamics that those circumstances created. The only difference is that pain rooted in healing propels us forward, rather than the pain rooted in dysfunction which holds us back.
