The Truth About Nobody - A Podcast by Preeti SinghSep 12, 2020
Say hello to...Pintu Singh!
I am not vaccinated. Why not? Read this, please, and share your thoughts. This is not by choice, of course, for I think getting that shot is both our right and responsibility. So, I am now alone at home, building an army of autobots. Meet the gang leader, Pintu Singh :)
I’m back! With an apology first…
...and a course correction.
Season 4 INTRO - My Supergirlfriends!
BONUS: Meet Versha Verma - One of India's Unlikely Angels during the COVID-19 Pandemic
Please NOTE: Most of this episode is in Hindi, and the poor audio in places is because of a phone conversation under some seriously difficult network issues!
MEET Versha Verma, the woman who is caring for those who have lost their lives, livelihoods or loved ones to the #COVID19 #pandemic in #India, providing succour and an invaluable service to the families of the dearly departed. Even though the Coronavirus pandemic in India has given her efforts a whole new dimention, she has been helping those who often cannot help themselves for years now - ever since she was a teenager. She tells me why she does this - especially ferrying bodies of the deceased from their homes, or those who are unclaimed from the streets or police stations, and ferrying them to the crematoriums - even cremating them with the respect and dignity that every human being deserves. She talks about her inspiration, the support of family and strangers alike, as well as the importance of education when it comes to empowering women.
Hers is a story of courage, seamless service, of breaking taboos and imagined barriers and, above all, of heroism inspired by a simple belief: just do whatever you can for someone else, with the hope that they will pay it forward.
I'm grateful to her for speaking to me, and, especially, for all that she and her team at "Ek Koshish Aisi Bhi" does. If you require any help in, or around an approximately 100 km or so radius of, Lucknow - do reach out to Versha and her team at her number +91 831 819 3805 Also, do reach out to her if you might like to assist her in her efforts by volunteering your time, or in other ways. Thanks for tuning in!
Love is All Around & Corona is Time for Family: A chat with 7-year-old Miraya
In an impromptu interview with seven-year-old Miraya, who prominently features in yet another episode on this podcast, I ask her about Corona, why she thinks that it is punishing us like it has been, what this time means to her, how she has learnt to value family and what her advice is to people who are ill or worried about their family in these dark times. This is a child's honest, uncut view and I hope it is taken in the spirit it is intended. You can write in to me with your thoughts on thetruthaboutnobody@gmail.com or message me on Twitter/ Instagram and Facebook Happy Listening!

Shaadi-Vyah, Juttiyan & Kuppal Kitty Parties _Sardaron ke Bachche - P2 & #ThePodcastPledge
This is the third episode in the series, fourth in Season 3 Growing Up Punjabi, and the second part in "Sardaron ke Bachche"... Little Surdy kids in groups can be quite formidable, and scarier than their parents sometimes. Imagine a bunch of them, hopped up on ghee and sugar, at weddings, for example. Or at small-town events like "kuppal" (couple) or "family" kitty parties, and you will be stunned at the shenanigans these children can pull. Tune in to find out!
Maiyyar Plaiyyar Laiyyar: Growing Up Punjabi & #ThePodcastPledge
About this episode: Growing up Punjabi - Well, storytelling in Punjabi households to Sardaron ke bachche (Sikh kids) is not meant to be intentionally funny. No Sir. We are told about the two great Indian epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, in all seriousness. Drinking ain't ajoke either, and nor is the fact that the Corona Virus pandemic has also affected Asiatic lions in a Hyderabad zoo. Then what makes me laugh about all this now? Tune in to find out! This is a tribute to all the mad little Surdy bachchas I grew up with! You guys rock.
Sardaron ke Bachche (Children of Sikhs) - Part One & #ThePodcastPledge
FROM THIS EPISODE ON, AND FOR THE NEXT THREE EPISODES, AND FOR EVERY LISTEN TO EPISODES IN THIS SERIES, I WILL MATCH Rs. 100/ listen and donate to a charity helping COVID-19 patients. UPDATES TO FOLLOW after the 3rd part in this series. Please Share/ Subscribe/ Listen/ Reach out if I can help. #ThePodcastPledge
About this episode: Growing up Punjabi - Well Sardaron ke bachche (Sikh kids) are in a league of their own. You’d see what I mean if you look around you - in ads and lines that have been made famous in advertisements and/ or movies by a Surdy or Punjabi kid. I’m here to tell you stories from my childhood in a Surdy-Punjabi household, surrounded by the craziness that only Punjabis can bring to any situation. It’s no wonder all three of us siblings have been labelled “dramebaaz” (melodramatic), with my nearly-seven-year-old niece following merrily in the footsteps of her very Sikh father and Punjabi mother. This is a tribute to all the mad little Surdy bachchas I grew up with! You guys rock.
INTERLUDE - Some Thoughts & A Tribute
Segue into Season 3: GROWING UP PUNJABI!

Season Two Wrap Up: I wish you love. 💕
The lockdown has a been a great time to just connect with a lot of people and their stories. Of love, heart break, eternal quests, breathless hookups, patient romances, short confessions and long conversations. And I’ve been soaking it all up! But it's started to get to me - this forced confinement for the second year in a row. With nothing but a short and wonderfully blissful break of a few months in between, as I recovered from the GBS and rediscovered myself. Alas, there seems to be no respite from this round of being home bound. And I find myself trying to reinvent, yet again. For now, I have deleted all the dating apps i was on, except Bumble. Well, what can I say? I like Bumble. A lot, and can't find it in myself to say goodbye to my sunny friend! So long, online dating....I'll catch up with you and, when I do, be kind will ya?!

Hangups, Hookups & Hangovers: A Chat with an Old Friend
In this episode, part of the online dating series of Season Two...I talk to my old friend - Shivraj - an openly gay man who came out at a time when others were afraid to. It hasn’t been easy, but online dating apps today have made it a lot of fun. Perils exist, so it pays to be cautious and a tad judgemental, he tells me. We talk about profiles, pictures, ghosting, ageism, yardsticks and much much more...Tune in, will ya?!!

Quest for “The One”: Magic, Myth, or Madness?
So, what's your quest? Oh and...What does Maneesh think?? I often wonder just how many of us are still searching for “the one”? It’s true that some of us have found that person, some have loved and lost, while others have just been plain unlucky in the quest that, deep down inside, most of us are on - at least at some time or the other in our lives. Everyone’s quest for THE ONE is different. There is no rule book. There is no single definition. There is no mould you need to fit them into, or break them out of. Well, here I don't mean a "friend" but someone you’re attracted to. Someone with whom you can be yourself. No masks. (Except for now!). No take backs. No judgement. No filters. And no guilt. Hence for me, single men!

Sweep. Search. Swipe. ♾
THIS EPISODE IS DEDICATED TO PRIDE MONTH 2020. Love is often brutal, unexpected and searingly indifferent to the chains that seek to bind it. May it forever roam free. And back to this season on dating online, I guess it’s not the dating apps’ fault when you have everyone looking for something often quite elusive out there – some for something specific, others for anything at all to break the monotony of their lives. I’m no different. Especially in this lockdown, this unnatural state of limbo we've been forced into. This podcast season was born out curiosity - my own, and that of my friends’ later on - to understand what the dating scene in India had become while we were all busy building marriages, adjusting their careers and/ or bringing up children.

A Brave New World - Part Two
NOTE: This episode contains a few Hindi words, phrases and sentences. When I first started dating online, I had set a red line for myself. I could date younger men. Just not more than a handful of years younger than me. At 45, that made it tough for me to cross the boundary to the early thirties. Till I finally did. I met someone... Men in their Thirties are just too easygoing, too much fun. They don’t take themselves as seriously as most men on the wrong side of forty seem to do. Soon I was learning how to navigate the exciting minefield of people born in the 1980s.

A Brave New World - Part One
Note: Mildly Explicit Content Like Marvel’s Captain America, it seems I had been frozen in a time capsule, only to emerge half a decade later (in my case) and realise the world had moved far ahead while I had been asleep. Upon this re-awakening, I would go on to discover a brave new world, venturing into an unfamiliar corner of the multi-verse. #OnlineDating. And here I am trying to be as honest as possible in sharing some of my impressions of the world that had existed long before I discovered it!!

An Ode to Online Dating
The lockdown has made me appreciate afresh, this strange beast I’ve been acquainted with for a while now - online dating! Tune into the first episode of a new season that talks about things I love about dating apps. And yeah, my not-quite-dating run-ins during a strict quarantine phase are topping the charts right now. Hurrah! Now only if we would get to the next chapter..and I could get back to them dates.

Cashless in the City with my Man Friday
Firstly, please ignore the background noise / disturbances in this episode, the source of which I cannot place to rectify. I’m still getting the hang of this thing! This one is about a person. One of many who was there for me when the chips were down. And oh how thankful I am for each and every one of them!

Paint me a Life
I have a six year old niece. She is the light of my life. I often tell her that she is my heart, and that if she behaves badly my heart jumps in it’s cavity and hurts. She listens intently to that, says sorry to me and then goes on to be even naughtier than before. Secretly? I love it. She is also one of the most sensitive, empathetic human beings I know and love. The picture you see as the thumbnail in this episode? That painting, which I recently got framed, kept me going. Kept me hopeful. Alive. And here’s its story!

Prelude: The Truth About Nobody
I’m Preeti Singh from New Delhi, India. You can follow me on Instagram/ Twitter on @truthabtnobody. I’m 45 years old. And this is my podcast “The Truth About Nobody”. It is partly my story. About surviving a life-threatening and rare autoimmune disorder that nearly killed me. And partly stories of a lot of people I have met, who have loved or left me, encouraged and uplifted me, laughed with or at me and made me who I am today. I hope you find something in here that resonates with you. And if you do, why don’t you share it ahead? Leave a message? I’d love to hear from you. Happy listening!
