Dr. Bob Baugher - Coping with Tragedies
In light of recent U.S. mass shooting events, the first person I could think of to bring to speak on this was Dr. Bob Baugher. We spoke in an earlier episode about grief, loss and suicide here. Many of the principles discussed by Dr. Bob can be applied to many life situations, not just in response to mass shootings.

Dr. Gerald Drose - Psychologist, Author of "Bird Gotta Land"
In this episode I chat with Private Practice Psychologist and author, Dr. Gerald Drose. Dr. Drose is based in Atlanta, and runs a successful private practice with four locations and at least 30 therapists. We discuss what inspired him to write his fiction memoir, chat about various characters in the book, and dive deeper into contemporary issues in Clinical Psychology - such as how his practice has changed due to the pandemic. As a person who struggles with long form reading (we talk about that, too), I genuinely enjoyed reading his book.

Wellness Wednesday - Don't let logistics interfere with your dreams
Wake up! It's "Wellness Wednesday" again, and this week's episode was inspired by a listener email, initially from one year ago, and what has occurred most recently. The focus is on whether we choose to give up on a passion, or dream, or goal, due to the large number of logistical challenges that lie ahead of that goal. Can you commit to pursuing it, knowing (or not knowing) what lies ahead? Maybe we can call it a "leap of faith?"
These weekly wellness episodes are brief episodes discussing ways that we can improve our personal wellbeing, with the hopes of influencing our society in a positive way. Think of this as a weekly mental health booster shot! #wellnesswednesday #mentalhealth

How to make sense of a Psychology Journal Article
In this "How to" episode we break down the specific parts of a typical scientific journal article in the field of Psychology. This can be useful for students who are new at reading original empirical research, or in need of guidance to organize a research paper. Those who are non-students might find this information beneficial in understanding the scientific research process that psychologists use.

Social Psychology Legend - Dr. Richard Nisbett
This week I have the pleasure and honor to pick the brain of Dr. Richard Nisbett, who recently released his memoir, "Thinking." He is one of the most influential social psychologists of our time, especially in the realm of social cognition. We covered a wide variety of subjects, from his storied career, loss of his close friend of 55 years, Dr. Lee Ross, aspects of his research he wished received more attention, multicultural psychology topics such as the bamboo ceiling, and more.

All about Myanmar - Conversation with Aye Khaine, Burmese American Social Worker
As part of our series on May's Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage and Mental Health Month, I have the privilege of introducing my very first interview guest, Aye Khaine, my better half. She's Burmese (or Myanmar) American, has a Master's in Social Work, and she takes us on a brief journey to understand Myanmar culture, working with refugees in the states, and explore aspects of the current military coup and tangible actions we are taking to help our friends in Myanmar. I hope by listening to Aye, we can reflect upon the immense diversity amongst Asian Americans, that one of the takeaways of the AAPI Heritage month is to learn that what we think of as Asian, is quite diverse and cannot be grouped together into a simplistic, unified group of people.

Be a Situationist, not a Dispositionist
In this episode I talk about one of my favorite psychological concepts, which is Attribution Theory, and its primary components, dispositional and situational explanations. This is a core theory within social psychology, specifically social cognition. The main reason I chose this subject is how relevant this is to our everyday life, and how we make judgments of people. Listen in for my challenge to you, to be more more a Situationist thinker, not a Dispositionist.

My thoughts on the training begin at the 21:00 mark, but before that I talk about recent events and answer listener mail about pursuing a career in clinical psychology, and ideas for having guests on future episodes. Applying to Graduate School in Psychology
Thinking of a career in Psychology? Then let’s get you into graduate school, shall we?
Since I have so many undergraduate college student listeners, in this episode I discuss the best ways to prepare for applying to graduate school, by starting early. We will go through a typical list of what is required in the application process, by using my Alma mater, University of Houston Counseling Psychology program, as an example. We will cover strategies to make you a better candidate, from the perspective of someone who was on both sides of the application process, as an applicant, and as a reviewer on selection committees.
Part 1 of the episode includes my take on current events, answering listener mail.
Part 2 begins the discussion about applying to graduate school, around 23:00 mark.

In this unplanned, unscripted episode, I talk about my personal perspective about being a Canadian-born Taiwanese American Texan. I did not plan for this to include many academic subjects, but I couldn’t help myself - so follow along where I share many personal experiences, and talk (yes, we must talk about this) about what action we can take as individuals to create a better society for all of uS. College is where you should cheat? - About Academic Integrity
Okay, I admit that title is a bit provocative, but there’s a grain of truth to it, so listen to the episode for more! The subject of Academic Integrity is the main focus, with some main takeaways from an Academic Integrity conference I recently attended. I also dive into the subject of cheating from my perspective as an online instructor, and some advice for students, and mainly, why students should care.
Lastly, I declare a new initiative: “From Chegg to Chuang” as a mission for my own classes.

In this episode I give my usual ‘talk’ that I typically share with my students about what to consider when deciding to drop a course. I hope others may find this helpful when they are making this decision, usually as an undergraduate college student.

Welcome to the DCU - Dr. Chuang’s Universe - Phase 1 (of 1?)
Hi friends, this is the first and maybe last DCU podcast, from a mentally exhausted person free associating for half an hour. Things I may have talked about in no particular order (hard to recall, given I’m writing this AFTER the podcast):
Hey I made a blog (under development!); impending winter doom; I’m not drinking I swear; we attended a pro-democracy march for Myanmar in Houston; my wife’s personality quirks; and apparently sponsoring products without sponsors; wait, I have FANS??
Oh yeah, I mentioned:

How to be a Supportive Friend
This subject was in direct response to what is happening to our friends and family in the country of Myanmar. How can I, as a friend, provide support to them, knowing there’s little we can do to help in a tangible way? Maybe I learned something in the process of earning a doctorate in Counseling Psychology that can be helpful in this situation. We’ll see.
Near the end of the podcast, I respond to a couple of listener comments.
