Blindfolded

Blindfolded

By Timothy Haskell

Short horror radio plays, many of which were designed to be listened to on headsets, blindfolded and guided around by another party as they activate important inflection points. Several were originally staged as immersive productions in NYC. All of them can be enjoyed by just listening to them as well. Several episodes were written specifically for this podcast. This is Real

This is Real

From 2016-2017 Psycho Clan did a production of a show called This is Real in an old warehouse in RedHook, Brooklyn. In a nutshell, it was a show that was a simulated abduction. Once again, you were blindfolded and led through a maze and dropped off into a "cell" where you can only see in front of you.  You are in the cell alone and you could not see the people you came with.  A scene played out between an earlier abductee and the abductor. It represents your fate if you don't get out on time.  Because dozens of people in multiple chambers were witnessing this scene, everyone was required to wear headsets while the actors lipsynced their lines by listening to small ear buds so that they were all perfectly timed.  This had to be done because many people were witnessing different actors doing the same thing in other parts of the warehouse,so it would have been a cacauphony of noise of overlapping voices. Once the captor left, the victim gave them some helpful advice as to how to escape before they died.  it is at that point that the show swtiched from a show to an escape.  Headphones were shedded and a race against time began.  They had to escape the warehouse before the kidnapper returned.

This podcast will feel incomplete because it ends when the victim dies. it's up to you to play out the rest in anyway you'd like to.

This is Real features the voice talents of James McLain, Chris Morris and Aaron Van Scyoc; written by Timothy Haskell; Sound Design by James Lo

Warning:  this episode contains lots of blood curdling screaming, foul language, and adult themes.  This episode, like the actual show itself, is 18 or older.

THE EMPTY PLACE

THE EMPTY PLACE

The power goes out in a small town and some miscreants are wreaking havoc. They see you. They are coming for you.  Put on your headsets, put on a blindfold and enjoy.

A Dark House

A Dark House

Our first episode of the Blindfolded podcast is A Dark House.  It is was originally staged in NYC as I Can't See in 2019. It was written and directed  by Timothy Haskell for Psycho Clan, a theatrical event company. It was written for the audience to listen to over headsets while blindfolded and led around by guides who engage with the audience at different tactile moments in the story.  It is about 4 skeptics who want to prove that a legendary haunted house is not, indeed, haunted by spending the night in it. It is inspired by the W.W. Jacobs short horror story "The Toll House".  You don't have to get up on your feet to enjoy this horror radio play, it is just as fun listening to it.  It is recorded in surround sound, so listening on headsets is the optimal experience.
