Megan FinCannon, Associate Director of Residence Life

Megan joins Elena to talk about living on campus during a pandemic, their expectations for what residence life will look like in fall 2021, and why Puget Sound uses a residential curriculum to guide the first-year residential experience. Later, Megan answers some frequently asked questions about housing selection and roommate matching, and Megan and Elena find out that they're great colleagues, but wouldn't be good roommates.

Remake the World: Tacoma Community House

This year, in lieu of a traditional admission gift, Puget Sound's Office of Admission is making a donation on behalf of each of our admitted students to one of five local community organizations: Nourish Pierce County, Tacoma Community House, Rebuilding Hope! Sexual Assault Center for Pierce County, Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound, and Citizens for a Healthy Bay. In this five-part miniseries, Remake the World, PS: The Puget Sound Podcast has partnered with the Office of Admission to introduce you to these community partners and their important work.

Today's episode is focused on Tacoma Community House, a nationally-respected, community-based service center for immigrants, refugees, and long-time South Sound residents seeking enrichment and pathways to self-sufficiency. Kelly is the Community Outreach and Volunteer Engagement Manager at University Beyond Bars, a nonprofit organization providing a range of college coursework (as well as transferable AA and BA degrees) to incarcerated individuals at the Washington State Reformatory. In addition to their discussion of UBB's work, Kelly and Elena also talk about Kelly's experience in college with Freedom Education Project Puget Sound, and the ways that this work has transformed Kelly's understanding of what education is and can be.
