7 Signs It May Be Time To Respectfully Address It, Proactively Change It, or Move On...

This may potentially be a sensitive topic. It may also motivate you to take a closer look at things, and behaviors. It may also, in what Christian terms call, convict you a little bit…

I have regularly attended and served in church for many years now. I have held a variety of leadership positions in a few different denominations and non-denominational churches. I adore being in community with others of faith. It is also biblical to gather, learn, worship, serve, grow in church, while taking that knowledge out to share it. All in an effort to make disciples whom make disciples. However, there is no perfect church, as there is no perfect person. We are all sinners saved by grace. We all make mistakes, experience regrets, and fail. Therefore, so do churches. So does that mean you continue at a church when you realize it is broken? Or that the message is not sound, or biblical? Do you continue to give of your time, talents and treasure all the while realizing that the Holy Spirit is convicting you to speak up about it?  Of course not. Allow me to share these 7 signs it may be time to respectfully address it, proactively change it, or move on.

DEVOTIONAL ||  1 Corinthians 12:12-27  ||  Many Parts but One Body...

“For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members  of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one  Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves[d] or  free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. For the body does not  consist of one member but of many. If the foot should say, “Because I am  not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any  less a part of the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an  eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a  part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would be the  sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the  sense of smell? But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each  one of them, as he chose. If all were a single member, where would the  body be? As it is, there are many parts,[e] yet one body. The eye cannot  say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the  feet, “I have no need of you.” On the contrary, the parts of the body  that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and on those parts of the body  that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our  unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, which our more  presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body,  giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, that there may be no  division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for  one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member  is honored, all rejoice together. Now you are the body of Christ and  individually members of it.” - 1 Corinthians 12:12-27

7 Signs it may be time...

7 Signs it may be time...

Do  you continue to give of your time, talents and treasure all the while  realizing that the Holy Spirit is convicting you to speak up about it,  or proactively make efforts to change it? Of course not. Allow me to  share these 7 signs it may be time to respectfully address it,  proactively change it, or move on.

1.)  If your church spends more time and money trying to entertain you and  become more of a Social Club than a biblical sound teaching and leading  church, that may be a problem and a sign.

2.)  If your church invests a majority of it’s messages being critical or  making fun of other denominations, church’s, Christians, or those in our  out of church, that’s likely a problem and a sign.

3.)  If your church prefers to mass market and advertise what they do for  their city, the country, others countries; while they have members or  regular attendees unable to afford necessities due to loss, illness or  injury while sobbing alone in the corner or back pew of the church,  that’s likely a problem and a sign.

4.)  If your church says to you that they do not want you at, in or be  involved at their church if you are not committed to tithing or going  above tithing, that is likely a problem and a sign.

5.)  If leadership cannot accept constructive criticism by wise members of  their congregation, or regular attendees, and seem to become quickly  defensive, or retaliate in words, gossip, rumors or worse by actions,  then that’s most likely a problem and a sign.

6.)  If your children, who normally love and have been nearly raised in  church, begin to feel uneasy, not even wanting to attend your church’s  children’s church, then that may be a problem and a sign.

7.)  If chronic gossip, back biting, or unmerited / unnecessary favoritism  is occurring, or regularly acceptable, especially by leadership, then  something is very broken,  that’s a problem and a sign.

If  this post is making you uncomfortable, maybe “cringe”, or you are  experiencing most of these rather often, then its most likely time to  respectfully address it, make immediate efforts to proactively change  it, or expeditiously move on.

If you would like to read bible references to any of these, please feel encouraged to ping me.

People are what make a church...

People are what make a church...

I just would to express something; please keep in mind that brick and  mortar doesn’t make a church, people do. People can also divide or  break a church too.

You may hold a church service anywhere at any time. At a coffee shop,  on a park bench, on a motorcycle, online, in your living room, on your  back deck…  And we all should and need to attend church, please see my  article at this link: https://purposeprinciplespassion.com/2020/05/20/3502/

Some churches or denominations and “Boards of Elders” and/or  “Deacons” do not get this. It is the gathering of believers seeking  knowledge, wisdom, repentance, to learn, serve, grow, get equipped and  go out to make to Disciples whom make Disciples. Granted we need the  biblical organization and storehouses as described in the bible.  However, NEVER forget people are the church!

I personally have been a Deacon, an Elder, a Church Treasurer, a  Sunday School Teacher, a Missionary, a Ministry Leader of multiple  ministries, a Pastors “right hand man”, and been involved in church for a  very long time. Church was never meant to be a museum for saints,  artifacts, fancy worship theatrics, craft coffee, man made doctrine,  human bureaucracy, clicks, favoritism of the whom has and whom has not,  for whom tithes more and whom tithes less, whom has recognized talents  and whom does not, whom may have a certain social class and connections  and whom does not. We are all human, we all bleed the same, and we are  all sinners only saved by grace.

We are to love others to the cross by our Godly wisdom, not of our human  flesh. We are to love the hell out of others with empathy, love, mercy  and grace. It is not about organized religion, or being adhered to a man  made doctrine or denomination. It is about building, delivering, or  sending a hospital for sinners, and we are all sinners, to love others,  accept them, and walk along side them to lead them to the cross and an  understanding of what a relationship with Jesus Christ is all about. To  have Jesus as our example to strive to be like. To speak, lead, serve,  teach, and love like Jesus. And to me it is not longer the acronym of  WWJD (What Would Jesus Do), it should be DWJD, (Do What Jesus Did).

I’m not perfect here, by far. I’ve made mistakes, I’ve failed and  offended. But I have learned a bit along the way and read, feel, believe  with both head and heart knowledge that I know what the Gospel says  after over 30+ years reading. studying, and humbly trying to mold it  into my life; while being involved in church more than half my life;  that more than not a lot of churches simply do not get it.

FAITH in FIVE || Miracle Series || Miracle 3 || " I believe there are Angels among us..."

FAITH in FIVE || Miracle Series || Miracle 3 || " I believe there are Angels among us..."

Bro 24" shares another miracle in this Miracles Series with miracle number three: "I believe there are Angels among us..."

"Throughout Scripture, we see numerous instances in which angels were an integral part of God’s plan. One verse alludes to the possibility of angels walking among us today: “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it” (Hebrews 13:2).

The obvious reference is to Abraham, whose angelic visitors appeared to him as men (Genesis 18).  There are dozens of scriptural examples of angelic encounters, so we know that God can and does use angels to accomplish certain things. What we don’t know for sure is how often angels allow themselves to be seen by people. Here are the basics about angels from the Bible: angels can instruct people (Genesis 16:9), help people (Daniel 6:22), deliver messages to people (Luke 1:35), appear in visions and dreams (Daniel 10:13), protect people (Exodus 23:20), and help carry out God’s plans.  We know that God created angels, and He uses angels in His plan. Angels have a sense of individuality, as some have names (such as Gabriel and Michael) and all have different responsibilities within the angelic hierarchy.  But do they walk among us? If God so chooses to use them in His custom-made plans for us, yes, they absolutely can walk among us doing God’s will. Angels are mentioned in Genesis and in Revelation, and they witnessed the creation of the world (Job 38:7). God has used His heavenly host from the beginning of time and will still use them at the end of time, according to Scripture. It is quite possible that many people today have met or seen an angel without realizing it.  If angels do walk among us, it is because they are serving a God-ordained purpose. The Bible mentions demons who wander the earth with no purpose other than to destroy (Matthew 12:43–45). Satan and his demonic force can probably appear physically, much like holy angels can. Satan’s purpose is to deceive and kill. Satan “masquerades as an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14).  An important note: angels are not to be glorified or worshiped (Colossians 2:18). They are entities who carry out God’s will, and they refer to themselves as “fellow servants” with us (Revelation 22:9).  Regardless of whether we actually experience angelic encounters, the most important thing is that we experience salvation through Jesus Christ. He is beyond all angels and all humans, and He alone is worthy of worship. “You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you” (Nehemiah 9:6)." ~ Source: "Got Questions" gotquestions.org

Devotional || Live Group || "God Heals Your Broken Heart..."

Devotional || Live Group || "God Heals Your Broken Heart..."

On this Devotional, Bibbers joins "Bro 24" once again for a devotional from Faith It Daily Devotional titled "God Heals Your Broken Heart"

"What do you do with your broken heart? What happens when you’re stuck and afraid and unsure of what to do next?  It’s interesting how we so quickly want to fix things when they break — especially when it’s something as personal and intimate as our hearts. But I think, sometimes, in our deep desire to fix all that is broken, we forget what opportunity it might bring to increase our faith.  And to be honest, I don’t know how to patch up a heart but it might not be about patching up anything at all. Because I don’t think hearts don’t get broken [by] accident. I think hearts get broken because God is so sure that something trapped inside needed to get out so that something so much better can pour in.  But it’s also not something we can ignore. Pain demands that we pay attention to it. How do you tangibly bring life back to your lifeless heart?  Choose what you KNOW over what you FEEL.  Memorizing what Truth says in Scripture can be one of the best ways to combat the enemy’s sneaky ways and how he twists heartbreak to become so divisive and personal. When you begin to say, “I feel lonely…” or, “I feel depressed,” remember that feelings are fleeting but truth is unchanging. Identify when you begin to feel the weight of a lie that says something like, “You’re unlovable,” or “You’re going to die alone,” and replace it with what you KNOW.  When you diligently work to memorize what TRUTH says, you’ll be armored up to stand against the lies that heartbreak can sometimes let seep in. Heartbreak can be a vulnerable place to be and while it’s good to be vulnerable with the Lord, you have to put on the armor of God or you’re also going to be open to attacks from the enemy. The enemy tries to play on our weakness but God can display His power through it.

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” - 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

Don’t just mope around expecting time to heal your heart. Time doesn’t heal your heart, Jesus does.  In the midst of this season of healing and finding purpose in the pain, don’t overlook the importance of standing on the Rock of Truth when you feel like you’ve been shaken to the core:

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” - Ephesians 6:10-11

"Dear God, thank you that you have equipped me with your Truth to fight the storm of feelings in my broken heart. I know that you are my Healer and my Comforter. In Jesus’ name, amen."

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” - Psalm 34:18

DEVOTIONAL Live Group || Job and Suffering || Repentance, Redemption, Restoration || Job 42:1-17

DEVOTIONAL Live Group || Job and Suffering || Repentance, Redemption, Restoration || Job 42:1-17

Bibbers joins "Bro 24" again for today's Video Group Devotional that we have titled, "Repentance, Redemption, Restoration from Job 42:1-17

"It’s striking that God does not accuse or condemn Job in his speech. Job has done nothing wrong. There was no reason for Job's misery; it is not a punishment from God. The viewer in the theater has had a glimpse of heaven in which Satan has challenged God, but the unfortunate man never received that and will never know it. There is no reason for the misery, no sin that is the cause of it and that should be solved or forgiven. Job eventually finds peace in his misery. That is not only when everything is straightened out again, not until healing has come, but there, already in his misery. Besides that, if the Lord is enraged with anyone, then it is with Job's talkative friends who had sound theories and theologies, who could explain everything about how the Almighty works.  Job must pray for his friends so that God will be merciful. That is another unexpected turn! In a short epilogue in the book of Job, everything seems to be restored again. The book is finished. Job again receives new wealth and status and prestige. God has been good to him. Yet it is not good until everything has been restored and health, wealth and prosperity have been given. It was good already in the misery.  It feels like this old book (the book of Job is seen as the oldest story in the Bible) has a lot to say about us now. It is perhaps a cure for the Western discomfort around the theme of suffering. The message of faith is not that there must be a reason for suffering. The message of faith is not that there is always a solution. The message of faith is certainly not a theater of healing. The book Job is also an encouragement, to be honest with God. You can apparently go so far that you totally disagree with God. But, you certainly get this if you read the book of Job carefully; you have to be on your guard when you think you understand everything about the Lord God Almighty.  In the old church, Job is also seen as a type of the suffering Christ who had to learn patience, who took suffering in silence. Followers of Christ will also be followers of the suffering Christ, cross-bearers. And they wait in patience for the Lord. Not until they understand it, but until they hear the word of God themselves. In the end, Job is also a book of hope. Everything will be fine. Not as a reward, not because Job has done a good job and passed an exam, but because God straightens everything out. The reasons are not made clear. Probably because there is no reason at all."

Devotional || Live Group || "Give Raw Emotions All The Space To Speak Out!” || Job 3:1-26

Devotional || Live Group || "Give Raw Emotions All The Space To Speak Out!” || Job 3:1-26

"Give Raw Emotions All The Space To Speak Out!”

"What would you do if your whole life was destroyed, right before your eyes? If you lost everything and everyone that you love? If you lost your dignity, your possessions, and your health?

Meanwhile, you are still looking at a grand theater that almost takes your breath away. Have you ever let your tears run, by seeing so much misery that can happen to a person? It's allowed. Job's friends didn’t know what to say about it. And despite everything, Job did not sin. He did not curse God and, in spite of everything, he accepts the evil that falls on him. But apparently, God is not there for him to fix the grief and misery. Job accepts his fate.

That is not to say that the faithful and righteous Job simply takes everything as it is. As soon as he starts speaking, he curses the day of his own birth. He cannot stop the thought that it would have been better if he had never lived in the first place. Job spits out his bitterness with artful words.

Let the day perish on which I was born,

and the night that said,

‘A man is conceived.’

Let that day be darkness!

May God above not seek it,

nor light shine upon it.

(Job 3: 3-4)

This is also the righteous Job. He curses the day he was born. He would have preferred to be stillborn. Death is suddenly a comforting thought. Bitter are his words.

I am not at ease, nor am I quiet;

I have no rest, but trouble comes.

(Job 3:26)

Does misery happen to you? Give the raw emotions all the space to speak out! And do you have a neighbor to which all this happens? Create a space for them to throw everything out. It is not a sin.”

DEVOTIONAL || LIVE GROUP || Know God || Hosea 6 3

Bibbers joins "Bro24" on this morning's devotional, DEVOTIONAL, "Know God"  from  Hosea 6 3 from the Faith Daily Devotional

"Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord;     his going out is sure as the dawn; he will come to us as the showers,     as the spring rains that water the earth.” - Hosea 6:3

"Do you not feel God? You’re not alone. Many heroes of the faith felt very distant from God most of their lives, including the author of most of the Psalms, King David. He wrote, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Words which would be repeated by Jesus as He withered on the cross. The best advice I can give is to keep learning about God. Keep reading the Word and filling your mind with Him. The act of these disciplines will eventually reorient your desires toward Him, and even though they are not glamorous or even fun, your emotions will follow.

" 'The ruts of routine become the grooves of grace.' ”

"The things you fill your head with will eventually trickle down into your heart; your emotions will be affected by what you put in your mind. There’s no way they can’t be! So don’t try to rush it. I would argue that wisdom doesn’t attempt to conjure up a false emotional experience, but simply remains faithful and lets the emotion come when the time is right.  Different views of our beautiful God will choke you up and tug on your heart, but one thing is true across the board: You won’t reach these deep places with Him if you’re not filling your mind with His words and orienting your life toward Him.  It will come in time.  So may we be people who pursue God, not an emotional high. May we be people who see God working in all areas of our lives, especially many of the mundane and unglamorous nooks. May we be comforted by knowing that He is not simply an emotion to be conjured up at will, but He is a person; a Father who wants to walk the journey of our lives with us. And that means that there will be a lot of long stretches of road without emotion or hype, just many, many trudging footsteps.

Dear God, I want to press on to know You deeply and fully. In Jesus’ name, amen."

DEVOTIONAL || Live Group || James 4:15-17 || If the Lord wills, and we do what is right...

On this Wednesday morning's group devotional we talk about James 4:15-17, and have titled today's devotional; "If the Lord wills, and we do what is right..."  “Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” - James 4:15-17

FAITH in FIVE "Submit to God, resist the devil to flee, and speak not evil" || James 4:12-17

Today's FAITH in FIVE is titled, "Submit to God, resist the devil to flee, and speak no evil" from  James 4:12-17.  Today I am visiting Medlar Conservation Bike Trail while sharing the video.  "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.  Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. 12 There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?" - James 4:12-17 ESV

DEVOTIONAL || Live Group || Your small tongue can set a blaze... || James 3:3-6

We met again this past Wednesday morning for another Group Devotional recorded live on James 3:3-6, titled "Your small tongue can set a blaze..  "If we put bits into the mouths of horses so that they obey us, we guide their whole bodies as well. Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell." James 3:3-6 ESV

DEVOTIONAL || Run the race with perseverance || Hebrews 12: 1-3

Today's video devotional is being shared from Cox Arboretum Metro Park  in West Carrollton, OH. It is titled, Run the race with perseverance

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,  let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and  let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to  Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was  set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at  the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured from  sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary  or fainthearted." - Hebrews 12:1-3

Devotional || Group Recorded Live || The Sin of Partiality || James 2:5-7

"Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him? But you have dishonored the poor man. Are not the rich the ones who oppress you, and the ones who drag you into court? Are they not the ones who blaspheme the honorable name by which you were called?" - James 2:5-7

GET IN THE GAME...

GET IN THE GAME...

GET IN THE GAME

If you hang around me for a while and get  to know me, you will find I often use Sports cliches, sports analogies,  and movie lines, even in general conversation. I like a variety of  sports, have played and coached a few. I am also a movie buff. Therefore  all of this may often intertwine in my general conversation.

In sports, a term is often used for those  who do not get into the game, they are called “bench warmers”. Are  there people who may be bench warmers of their faith, or their Calling,  or what God’s purpose for them?  Think about it, when you were saved,  you were given the Holy Spirit, Spiritual Gifts, and seeds of Fruits of  the Spirit. He didn’t intend us to be sideline observers, He doesn’t  necessarily want us to be just Fans. He wants us to take up our cross,  (not our therapeutic mattress) and FOLLOW HIM.

Philippians 4:4-9

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

FAITH in FIVE || A Call to Remain Faithful, a Call to Persevere || Jude 1:17-23

“But you, my dear friends, must remember what the apostles of our Lord  Jesus Christ predicted. They told you that in the last times there would  be scoffers whose purpose in life is to satisfy their ungodly de  sires. These people are the ones who are creating divisions among you.  They follow their natural instincts because they do not have God’s  Spirit in them. But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your  most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, and await the  mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this  way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love. And you must show  mercy to those whose faith is wavering. Rescue others by snatching them  from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with  great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives.” - Jude 1:17-23

We are all Consumers, and we often become what we often consume

We are all Consumers, and we often become what we often consume

Humans are consumers. We buy things, and we eat things. However we don’t just consume food, and buy things, we absorb things into our minds through what we see and hear.

We have all heard the expression, “You are what you eat”, and “Garbage in, garbage out.”

However, we also have a tendency to become what we often see and hear. In other words, if you listen and hear garbage, you may exude garbage. In addition, if you associate too much time with garbage, then garbage you may become.

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” - Philippians 4:8
