Xmas Wrap Up

Xmas Wrap Up

2020 has certainly been a year like no other, one of which I don't think we will ever forget and hopefully won't have to go through again.

Saying that, life is how we view it and there is plenty to be grateful for - and I'm not just talking about Season 2 of the Mandalorian (such a great season).

I'm grateful for the extra time I spent with my family (made more special with my newborn son, Beau), the health of my family, the people I have in my life, my amazing wife and children, and the new friendships I have made throughout the year.

I've also been inspired by friends who have taken this year by the balls and achieved great things - worked hard on their health, started new passion projects, doubled down on their crafts, even those who were faced with losing their jobs have taken the opportunity to pursue something else that they're passionate about (the forced change they needed to pursue something more fulfilling).

We endured 2020. We completed it, its almost over - and I think we've all walked away more resilient and with a greater perspective on how quick the world can change and that whilst many things may be outside our control, we still have control as to how we view and adapt to those changes and what we make of it.

Thank you once again for all of your support and for giving up your time to listen to the stories and discussions shared on this podcast - I really hope the conversations have helped you in some way and provided value.

Lets make 2021 a great year.

Wishing you all a safe and happy Christmas.

Please look out for those around you who may not be doing ok.

Stay well, be kind, much love.

Ep.018 - Matt Runnalls, Founder & CEO of Mindfull Aus

Ep.018 - Matt Runnalls, Founder & CEO of Mindfull Aus

Working on our mental health is a constant journey, something that we have to invest into each and everyday, to become the best version of ourselves, and be better equipped to take on whatever life throws at us.

On Episode 18, I spoke with Matt Runnalls, Founder and CEO of the non-profit mental health foundation Mindfull Aus.

Matt shares his own lived experiences on losing 8 mates to suicide, living with mental illness, being a survivor of suicide attempts, to now being the CEO of Mindfull Aus and using his own trauma to help others by sharing his story, creating awareness, providing education and tools to help others who may be struggling, as well as building resilience to take on the ongoing challenges life throws at us.

Matt is a motivational and guest speaker, having travelled around Australia and the world sharing his messages of Love, Belonging, Connection and Purpose.

Matt is also a mental health and suicide prevention advocate, working tirelessly with young children to build programs to help better education and build emotional resilience for our next generation. He also does a lot of work within remote and rural areas of Australia, areas where suicide rates are far higher, in an effort to reduce those numbers, saving lives through education, acceptance, and sharing his lived experiences.

Loved chatting with Matt. He's such a genuine person and wants to simply be the teacher to others that he never had on this topic. Changing lives one conversation at a time.

Hope you enjoy the episode guys and it bring you with value - much love!

Ep.017 - Casey Lyons, Co-Founder & CEO of LIVIN

On Episode 17, I spoke with Casey Lyons, the Co-Founder and CEO of the Australian mental health charity 'LIVIN'. Casey shares his story on why LIVIN was formed, how the team are working to change the way we view and interpret mental health and mental illness, kickstarting conversations through their LIVIN apparel.  Casey also shares some really important practical information about the importance of self-care, what are some of the signs that someone may not be doing ok, how to have these conversations and what happens if the response is that they’re not doing ok.

 ----------

Casey is sharing his story and experiences, in an effort to help others that may share a similar story, as well as to promote the message "It Aint Weak To Speak", to remove the stigma surrounding mental illness (both internal that we place upon ourselves, but also external that others associate with it), and provide further education towards suicide prevention.

Ep.016 - Body Image & Eating Disorders - Sarah @simply.saz

Ep.016 - Body Image & Eating Disorders - Sarah @simply.saz

On Episode 16, I was extremely fortunate to speak with Sarah, a 22 year old mental health advocate and Instagram blogger about her own experiences and challenges she has faced in her life with body image and eating disorders.
We spoke about how at such a young age, Sarah had mentally accepted and linked being happy and popular to being thin - where your weight and physically appearance carried a significant amount of social currency.
Sarah opened up about here experiences in seeking help through the support of her parents, her turbulent journey in seeking help, receiving treatment, as well as her relapse experiences and learnings.
We spoke about the misconceptions people can have with separating reality and fantasy, as portrayed across our social media platforms, as well as across general modern culture. The importance of being better educated, in an effort to build resilience and build confidence in your own body image and self-worth.
That the numbers should never define your own self-worth. Do not be defined by your illness. Stop trying to be anyone else but yourself and love you for the qualities that make you you, both good and bad. No one is perfect, so stop looking for it.
Find your happiness by finding and accepting who you are, unconditionally - without being distracted or slowed down by the noise of other's negative opinions or mindsets. Wasted energy.
----------
Sarah is sharing her story and experiences, in an effort to help others that may share a similar story, as well as to help better educate non-suffers, to help remove the stigma and common misconceptions surrounding eating disorders and promote positive body image and a mantra to 'Ditch the Digits'.

We dive into:

- the charity work she does with MC ESPORTS, raising awareness and funds for mental health organisations

- the panel she has organised at PAX Australia this year on 'Mental Health and the Benefits of Video Games'

- unpacking some of theses benefits

- where we feel mental health has been depicted well in video games, and where sometimes not so much

- how cathartic a video game experience can be for both sufferers and non-sufferers when done well.

----------

Leishaaa321's panel at PAX Australia this year is scheduled for Saturday 12th October 2pm in the Fruit Bat Theatre.

If you’re heading to PAX this year and have some time to check this panel out, please do and let me know what you thought.

SIDE NOTE - Let's talk about the 'Mental Health Care Plan'

SIDE NOTE - Let's talk about the 'Mental Health Care Plan'

Welcome to the 'Pushin’ Through Blu' Podcast.

On this Side Note episode, I wanted to talk about the Australian Government's 'Mental Health Care Plan'

- what is it

- who may be eligible for it

- how people can access it

- what benefits are associated with the plan for those who are eligible to receive it (i.e. Medicare rebates and access to a range of health professionals)

- as well as some of my own personal experiences shared when speaking to my doctor about it and accessing the plan for myself.

I believe it's important that people are aware this plan exists, if not for themselves then for maybe for someone they know (friend or family member), that may be going through their own mental health challengers and would benefit from knowing this plan and financial assistance is available.

If you feel that you have concerns about your own mental health, please speak with your doctor about it, to access professional help and support.

Ep.002 - My Story - Depression & Anxiety

Ep.002 - My Story - Depression & Anxiety

Welcome to the 'Pushin' Through Blu' Podcast.

When asking others to be brave and to share their stories with metal health, I believe it's only appropriate that I lead by example, with sharing my own.

Episode 2 deep dives into my own personal story, living with depression and anxiety.

My story also looks at:
- the origin of where it all began for me
- triggers
- recognising that I needed help
- the process in asking for help and seeking professional advice
- through trail and error, what I found to help me manage my thoughts and feelings
- my $0.02 in what I have learnt from where I was to where I am today.

"Remember, no storm lasts forever. Hold on. Be brave. Have faith. Every storm is temporary and we're never alone".

If you find value in this podcast or feel may help someone you know, it would mean the world to me if you can share it - rate - review - subscribe - let me know your thoughts.
