Quantum Computing Now

Quantum Computing Now

By Ethan Hansen

This is a podcast all about quantum computing news, basic concepts, and what people in the field are doing. Quantum computing is serious stuff and we talk about serious science, but I try to not take myself too seriously. With that being said, quantum computing is rad as heck. Oh and here's the obligatory phrase " quantum computing podcast " so search engines pick this up.

Reprogrammable Quantum Secure Hardware with Mamta Gupta - Episode 47

Reprogrammable Quantum Secure Hardware with Mamta Gupta - Episode 47

We've heard on the show before about software needed to secure devices in a post-quantum world, but what about the hardware? Mamta Gupta from Lattice Semiconductor is here to tell us all about that!

A note: at one point, Mamta talks about massive parallelism being the reason for quantum computing's speedup. As far as I can tell, it's not. I didn't think during the podcast was the best time to bring it up, but if you want to learn more, I recommend looking at the episode I did with Scott Aaronson and also the episode with Jon Skerrett

  • The Mermin-Peres magic square is a simple game which is at the heart of many results in quantum cryptography and quantum complexity theory. In this episode, we trace the origin of the Mermin-Peres square back to two short papers by N. David Mermin and Asher Peres.

Mermin's paper: https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevLett.65.3373

Peres' paper: https://doi.org/10.1016/0375-9601(90)90172-K

Amir (VP of R&D at Classiq, a quantum software startup) and I talk about how Quantum Volume is measured and how we in the public should interpret the results that come from it. While the metric does have some flaws, it’s still a good general-purpose single-number way to compare devices.
