Barbie and The Bear

Barbie and The Bear

Why hello sweet podsters.

This week, Olivia discusses her itchy hands (and warm heart) as in true, sapphic form, she has acquired a cat! We go deep on Barbie just in time for the end of the #discourse which let's face it, is very us!

We discuss the character arc of Ken v Barbie and how it's impossible to please everyone when you create a movie to please everyone (spoiler alert, we still liked it very much) and the importance of platforming women's silliness- we are silly, ok?!

We also go deep on The Bear Season 2 and our crushes on every single character- (Matty Matheson anyone?!) as well as *that* episode, 'Fishes.'

Who Cares?

Who Cares?

Look before you ask, yes, we have had a glass of wine. Join us for this BUMPER episode where we let you know all about what we've been up to! From Barbie excitement (yes this episode was recorded before the big Barb release), some top pick books we've read recently and some gorgeous trips we've galavanted on. Then we go IN on 'A Little Life', and whether or not we agree with the stage adaptation and maybe, actually, it's existence altogether. And don't worry we also then have a LOT to say about the return of 'And Just Like That'...anyone else worried about Miranda's queer awakening? Also, trust me, TRUST me you are going to want to listen right to the end to hear the outro where we truly lost our minds. Look. We know it's long. Listen in two parts. Listen in four. Listen all in one go. Don't listen at all. Who cares? I GOT A TASTE 4 BLOOD

I GOT A TASTE 4 BLOOD

Hello hello jolly podcast sailors, 'tis us, your favourite gals about town with another monthly serving of QUEER LONGING.

This month, we recap our jet set lifestyle (Lucy went to Rome and ate delicious food, Olivia went to Valencia and ate mediocre food) as well as the myriad benefits of an air fryer (hello thirties, is that you?).

We talk about our upcoming trip to see A Little Life on the West End, and discuss how our relationship to art can change with time and context.

We cover Eurovision and how we got the best Chinese takeaway of our lives that one time (never to be repeated) and importantly, what the future holds for the Gaylor of our dreams post (alleged) Joe Alwyn break up.

We talk all our favourite telly bits from Succession to The Power as well as scary childhood memories and the importance of always splitting the G.

You'd truly be mad to miss it.

Queer Longing Author Special: Henry Fry, 'First Time For Everything'

We're back for a new season and starting off with another stunning author special. In this episode we were joined by the true human delight that is Henry Fry to discuss his debut novel, 'First Time For Everything', a heart-warming novel which follows protagonist Danny along the pitfalls of finding yourself explored through humour and the importance of queer family.

We talked to Henry about his new book along with a lot of chat about festivals, corporate lip service and choosing bottoms or tops for our burger buns...naturally!

Henry's book, 'First Time For Everything' is available now- go go go!

Hello Hunnis!

It's been a while but today we're taking a break from our author special guest series and this episode... it's just family!

Plus, Olivia makes her case for possibly the most polarising segment on Queer Longing so far- 'I Don't Agree With It: The Redemption.' If you ever thought we didn't bring you a veritable smorgasbord of tension and intrigue, think again huns.

One Steaming Hot Simulatte Pls

Oh hey it's a new podcast one week after the last! Hold ur horses bbz this is 2022! First things first we go hard on taking January back to the drawing board and rebranding it big time! Forget hibernating- get out there and soak up your life! We're feeling v analytical this week and do a deep dive of The Matrix Resurrections: what we really liked about it (see: Simulatte) and what we weren't so keen on (more drama, more overt queerness pls). For the review Lucy mentions see here: http://www.reverseshot.org/reviews/entry/2890/matrix_res We recap the ongoing queer elements of And Just Like That aka losing our minds at Miranda's 'daydreaming' sequence and not agreeing with the writers losing the balance of allowing a queer awakening without demonising cherished characters. Plus, we talk mentioning the pandemic in media and why it gives us the ick and we critique the critics- which we absolutely are within our rights to do. 2022: Mad for the Zeitgeist

2022 Baby!

Yes indeed, the years of BITS is finally here and we're back firmly situated in Queer Longing towers after a festive period of rest and relaxation...sort of.

For the first pod of 2022 expect our usual round-up/processing of the past 12 months and our intentions for the coming year. Say no to snide lemon wedges, and yes to signature cocktails friends. We also lament when a spread spreads too far and what it means to be mad for the zeitgeist.

We're also diving deep into fashion trends for 2022 and spoiler alert... we agree with most of it. Roll on head to toe lilac and mod print, we agree with you.

To round us out we treat you to a queer reading of And Just Like That, because we are, after all, ourselves.

And some things never change.

A Delightfully Spooky Season with Special Guest Laura Alston

A Delightfully Spooky Season with Special Guest Laura Alston

This week we had the absolute pleasure of being joined by friend of the pod, historian extraordinaire and dabbler of the occult, Laura Alston.   Laura joins us as a ghost enthusiast to talk all things spooky this season in our very special Halloween episode. We chat about our own experiences with ghosts and Laura takes us through some of the different explanations for those spooky sensations we all experience. Mostly, Laura helps to remind us that most ghosts don’t want to cause harm and we can learn a thing or two about life and what lies beyond it by approaching the veil between worlds.   We talk queer ghost stories and Laura reads us the history of the ladies of Llangollen from stunning book, ‘Queer Hauntings’ by Ken Summers. We discuss the phenomenon of Halloween often being described as Gay Christmas and the dangerous notion of queerness being displayed as otherness.   Plus, we get a sneak peek into the world of Laura’s pendulum and the importance of channelling your own energy to garner answers to questions in your life.   We also have time to cover the latest adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s ‘Rebecca’ from Netflix, with it’s notorious queer coding of Mrs. Danvers and the true gay icon of the film- Rebecca’s bedroom.   Tracks of the Week: Dusty Springfield, Spooky https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7QzxYAjgNc&ab_channel=nicholasmark Black Sabbath, Mr Crowley https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0RE230PlX4&ab_channel=OzzyOsbourne-Topic Rocky Horror Picture Show, Toucha Toucha Touch Me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNACNewvhq0&ab_channel=KristineKristensen Happy Halloween huns! Remember to have a chat with some spiritual pals this week, dress as queer as poss and keep spookin’! xoxo

Come one, come all to an in-depth discussion of the joy of sausage rolls. That’s right, we may be talking Christmas food a lil early but honestly what is time any more and we all need something to look forward to, don’t we huns?   We take a trip down old friend Sporty Spice Lane this episode by having a look at the San Diego Loyal’s recent walk off before we have an impromptu therapy session when we discuss the ever important nature of friendships through lockdown.   Plus, we’ve got pod recs galore from super lesbian fun chat on ‘Dyking Out’, to the newest outfit from Trixie Mattel and Katya Zamolodchikova, aptly named ‘The Bald and The Beautiful’ and a raw and deeply personal episode of ‘Armchair Expert’.   Oh and we talk about what hat we are and the complete demise of advertising- truly, stop it.   Tracks of the Week:   Romy, Lifetime https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZRnk971u4M&ab_channel=Romy   Frank Ocean, Self Control https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BME88lS6aVY&ab_channel=Blonded   Don’t be shy, come say hi xoxo

Queer Longing: The Reputation Era (& Gay Hedgehogs)

Why hello one and all and welcome to what is truly an AUTUMNAL episode!
Sadly, we're not going back to school and no one in QL Towers has a new pencil case but rest assured this episode is as moreish as a pumpkin-spiced latte on Halloween!
This week, we talk UK staycations, the allure of a good logburner and as ever, our failed clotted lobster pursuits.
As the nights draw in, we give you a whole host of entertainment delectables to warm the cockles of your heart, from BBC Four's Soul Night to Mrs America to the return of the warmest cockle of all- BAKE OFF, you're going to hear it all.
This week also boasts a bumper podcast segment where we reminisce re old favourites i.e. 'My Brother, My Brother and Me' and discover new favourites from 'Help, I Sexted My Boss' to 'Out by Suzi Ruffell (Olivia's Mum's favourite).
We dive in to tensions in the feminist movement and explore the concept of 'queer gatekeepers' inspired by Danielle Vanier's recent Instagram post.
We also talk untold stories of black Britons with the universally beloved Alison Hammond and finish off with a poetry reading from QL Towers' resident poet laureate, Lucy. Honestly, what more could you want!
