Movisode 14: House of Wax (2005) and Madame Tussauds Wax Museum

Movisode 14: House of Wax (2005) and Madame Tussauds Wax Museum

Abby and Ellie haven't seen each other for a WHILE in this episode, which is why our witty banter and updates last until about the 17:00 mark.  Ellie discusses a hilarious fire chief and Abby whines about a short summer vacation that feels so far away.  There's something for everyone in this episode:  movie trivia, a roadkill pit?!, a throwback 2009 Folger's Coffee Commercial, some French Revolution history, and so much more we can't cram it all into the show notes!

Due to a misread text, Abby had to watch this travesty twice in two days so she considers herself an expert on the topic.  Abby and Ellie discuss the big 2005 vibes of House of Wax.  Juicy Couture velour sweat suits, Chad Michael Murry miscast as a brother instead of a boyfriend, Jared Padelecki pre Supernatural, Disturbed and My chemical Romance on the soundtrack, and more.

Then, Abby discusses the bloody history of Madame Toussad and her Wax Museum.  We also, of course, in true QFF fashion, discuss the controversies that surround them:  the royal family wax figures, whitewashed Beyonce,  and an inaccurate depiction of Nicki Minaj just to name a few.  Enjoy the spooky vibes and comedic relief we offer in this movisode and don't burn the house down when you stream House of Wax!

We're back at it again everybody!  This episode we TURNT UP (does anyone say that anymore?) to celebrate our one year podiversary and celebrated being able to record safely in person together for the first time in six whole months.  Ellie discusses the work of the Japanese manga horror artist and writer Junji Ito and Abby discusses one woman's skydiving experience.  It was a horrible accident...or was it?  Honorable mentions to our guest stars Jack and Marvin and our tangents on wisdome teeth and South African accents (just listen if you don't get it).    Find out more on this episode of Queers for Fears!

Moviesode 11: Lovely Molly

Abby and Ellie really wanted to talk about "The Devils" (1973) but do not trust themselves to pirate it properly, so instead, we found a possession flick neither of us had seen before: 2012's "Lovely Molly." Plus, Abby talks about a "real-life" possession story - and what each of us means by those scare quotes.

Episode 32:Leopold & Loeb - Part 1

Episode 32:Leopold & Loeb - Part 1

It wasn't until 1988 that a Northwestern University archivist realized that the law school had, at some point, been given a treasure trove of primary source documents - including the original ransom note - from one of Chicago's most famous crimes, committed in 1924. Ninety-seven years on, the names Leopold & Loeb ("the original affluenza teens" - Abby) are familiar to anyone with an interest in true crime or Chicago history. In this episode, Ellie begins her deep dive into the murder of Bobby Franks, drawing from author Nina Barrett's exhaustive 2018 book on the Northwestern archive materials, "The Leopold and Loeb Files."

Abby and Ellie discuss "Brahms: the Boy II" (how did they get Katie Holmes and Ralph Ineson for this??) and, more importantly, some real-life "haunted" dolls (including one doll who is not haunted in the sense of "ghost-containing" but in the sense of "has seen some shit").

Episode 31: Snow Hags, Sanatoriums, and Staten Island: a combisode

In a rare role-reversal, Ellie discusses a possible serial killer (to be fair, she thought the documentary she watched was about an urban legend) and Abby talks about personifications of wintriness in folklore from around the world (to be fair, extreme cold is also a serial killer, after a fashion).
